IN APPRECIATION
I extend my appreciation to authors Derber and Magrass for so many insights into the Republican predatory restructuring of America. As I explained in Every Vote Matters (2018), I had all but completed the manuscript, when one morning I pulled from the book shelf a treasure entitled, The Surplus American. Suddenly I found myself totally absorbed in what turned out to be the missing link I felt I couldn’t seem to put my finger on. The Surplus American brought to life the destructive reality of the fifty year Republican political-economic assault on America’s liberty, rule of law, democratic capitalism, and the economic prosperity of a free democratic people.
My thanks go to Professor Derber for allowing me to use language from The Surplus American to describe the Republican political-economic reality of a subjugated surplus
people responsible for their own fate.
To Morgan Maddock, a special thanks of gratitude for her invaluable textual advice and comment. And I am in so many ways indebted to all who have pursued the truth of freedom betrayed, in particular, Thomas Franks, Thom Hartmann, Chris Hedges, Nancy MacLean, Jane Mayer, Robert Reich, Hedrick Smith, Matt Stroller, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Richard Wolff - to name just a few.

INTRODUCTION
Yesterday’s America of prosperity for the many is today an America of prosperity for the few. The time has come we UNITE as a People of Liberty for an America of Freedom, Democracy, and Prosperity for all. The moment is here we END the Inequality, Corruption, and Violence that holds America hostage to the Republican trickle-down
legislative tyranny of capital supremacy. The hour is now we DECLARE we are a patriotic people crying out for Equality, Truth, and Justice. For all that is America, together we must RESTORE democracy to an abandoned people longing for a fair share
in an America of Liberty and Justice for All.
AMERICAN APOCALYPSE is a reflective commentary of the greed and corruption of this America moment, how today’s political trickle-down
reality evolved through decades of Republican political deceit and deception and the Conservative politically engineered demise of yesterday’s America of Liberty and Justice for All
. It is a story of everyday Americans struggling to provide for the basic necessities of life for their families in a Republican, Profit over People, predatory trickle-down
America. It is a call for the return of political and economic integrity to an American Constitutional democracy free of big money
vested interest politics that works for all the people of in a Land of the Free.
It is an appeal for a democratic renewal that honors the nation’s Founding Values of productive work, an honest secure living wage, lifesaving healthcare, affordable housing and education, and retirement security, dignity, and respect in old age.
These are times that try men’s soul,
cried Thomas Paine in the midst of America’s struggle for independence. Why, we ask, are we a People of Liberty in this American moment struggling to survive the financial greed, legal corruption, and political injustice of America’s Republican social-economic Conservative Profit over People predatory trickle-down
world? We are today a free democratic patriotic People of Liberty held hostage to a predatory political-social-economic tyranny that try men’s soul.
I feel it is important to note here – I’m not a scholar, a historian, nor even a writer; I’m just the guy next door, a neighbor who seeks to live in peace and quiet, make ends meet, and lives in the hope of a democratic and prosperous America for my children and grandchildren. I am an American, a son of centuries of immigrant families, some of whom fought in the struggle for American independence and subsequent military conflicts over the generations. My life has been long and seen much, in particular the tragic political perversion of America’s democratic process to big money
power politics and the Republican legislated trickle-down
Pooring of America.
I am one of a few Americans today who can recall how in 1980 the Republican political establishment ushered in, through the political rhetoric of deceit and deception, the Conservative promise of a rejuvenated America in the guise of trickle-down
prosperity for all. There followed the implementation of the Conservative social-economic blueprint for a deregulated economic trickle-down
transformation of America that set in motion the mobilization of political alliances, political action initiatives, and unlimited financial support for a protracted long-term political campaign to dominate the political, economic, and financial culture of America’s democracy.
The Conservative ideological advocates of trickle-down
political domination in 1980 sold America the myth
government regulatory oversight of business and finance was undermining the American free enterprise system
. The truth, however, was the middle class was sharing in America’s industrial prosperity and the Conservative financial elite regarded America’s middle class standard of living the reason for their decline in profitability, and a threat to the entrepreneurial spirit of entitlement to unfettered profits and concentration of America’s wealth.
With the Republican seizure of political power in 1980, the Conservative political establishment delivered America’s People of Liberty to a new era of big money
vested interests seeking to deregulate the rule of law across the American economy, deconstruct government through privatization, and concentrate the wealth of America in the hands of the financial power elite. Through the deregulation of business and finance, the Republican political establishment dismantled America’s middle class industrial prosperity and established across America a subsistence trickle-down
financialized economy. The Republican 1980s was to become for the People of America the most destructive political change agent in American history. The resulting Republican promised social-economic rejuvenation of America would destroy forever the ability of the American people to make a decent living, incur massive national deficits to fund decades of wealthy trillion dollar tax cuts, and establish forever the Republican legislated Profit over People
predatory trickle-down
subsistence America.
AMERICAN APOCALYPSE, in a personal sense, is the story of my fifty-year journey in witness to a new imperial
conservatism of individual extremism of the survival of the fittest
in pursuit of absolute power, the fleecing of America’s wealth from its rightful owners, and the subjugation and impoverishment of a People of Liberty to a life of desperation, misery, and despair. It is, I feel, a reflective essay of my observations, thoughts, and perspectives on the plight of a patriotic hardworking suffering people; the Republican legislated economic demise of America’s regulated competitive market economy, and the loss of integrity in America’s electoral democracy to vested big money
power brokers.
The reality of this American moment is that we are a People of Liberty struggling daily to survive the poverty of the Republican engineered subsistence trickle-down
world of want, desperation, and despair: neighbors who’ve lost jobs, homes, and everything they’ve worked over a lifetime; friends who work two and three jobs to make ends meet and put food on the table; the mother with three children at the market checkout having to put aside food items, pampers, and milk; children of friends and neighbors forever
enslaved to the shackles of student debt that has realized little more than a minimum-wage job; several generations living in a single family household struggling on a subsistence income; citizens dying for want of accessible affordable lifesaving
healthcare; teachers having to work two jobs to make a living; seniors losing the family home thanks to unaffordable taxes on a subsistence retirement income; and all the elderly of my generation existing silently on a pittance in fear of the day Republican trickle-down
core values will relegate them to the street penniless, abandoned, and alone.
This is the America of the Republican Profit over People
predatory trickle-down
world of this America moment. I tremble in these desperate and perilous times to bear witness to the plight of so many millions of suffering Americans who, through no fault of their own, have been sacrificed and abandoned as surplus people,
just collateral damage
to the ravages of the
