This is a book about a boy describing himself using animals to do so from being as quick as a cricket to as loud as a lion. It is quite a fun book and could be used in a lesson as an introduction to similes.

Great book to read to young children to build up their self esteem. It is also a great book to read while studying similes and metaphors. The pictures are fantastic and make the book come to life.

This is a great book for building descriptive vocabulary in young children. This book gives preschoolers a lot of metaphores that they can use to describe themselves. It has a very engaging rhythm to it. The illustrations are lovely and dramatic.

A boy describes himself through animals. There are many synonyms and antonyms. Each phrase in the book is a simile. This is a great book for teaching students about sentence formation and poetry.

A fun collection of simile phrases, many of which are used in everyday language, as a child compares himself to all sorts of wildly different animals. The ultimate message is great: people contain contradictions, and that's a wonderful thing!

I love everything about this book. It is a simple little story of all the different characteristics that make up this little boy. He is big and small, happy and sad, loud and quiet, tough and gentle. The illustrations are soft and dreamy, very pleasant to look at. But most importantly, it gives the message that we are many different things at different times and we are all unique and different. This is a great book to read to young children at anytime to talk about what makes them who they are.

Small romp through the insect world and other animals that a child compares herself to.

I loved this book. It is a wonderful book full of colorful illustrations that are very detailed. This book has a great message which is that children can be whatever they want. They can be "as quick as a cricket, or as slow as a snail." As "loud as a lion or as quiet as a clam." It doesn't matter what characteristics a person possesses, those characteristics are what make a person unique and who they are. This book was like an "All About Me" book because the boy describes all of the different characteristics that he has. I liked how this book was all about comparisons using similes. This makes the book easier to understand for the younger kids because most of them know what the different animals are and what they do, so comparing someone to the animals would make it easy to understand. One thing that I also like about this book was that the author used opposite adjectives to describe the boy, like quick/slow, loud/quiet. This shows that a person can be both of these things and that they don't have to be just one. This is a great book that helps encourage kids to look at all the good things about themselves and to not be ashamed of them.

Absolutely gorgeous illustrations, and I love the repetition. Would be great for any language course, from ESL to grammar to poetry. Not so great for science though - sharks aren't mean, toads aren't cold....

I've used this favorite book for years in small and Big Book sizes. All ages of children respond to the text and illustrations. It is a great book to use to model writing simple rhyming seesaw patterned books. Also great for Personal Feelings and Growth Theme

A great book that explains how a child can feel during a day by rhyming and using animals as an example. Great for students who are just learning to read or are not expert readers.
