M Y NAME IS RANDELL JONES. I have dirty-blonde hair, cut just above my ears, all one length, dark chocolate brown eyes, I’m 5'9", average build, and an all around nice guy, usually. I’m not your avearge seventeen-year-old teenager. Thanks to my parents, Rodolfo and Randi Jones, I’m a seventeen-year-old teenager who turns into a white wolf every full moon. You know how hard it is dating around when you have to keep making up excuses to go home early? It is next to impossible.

Luckily for me, I’m not the only wolf in my family. Both my parent’s are wolves every full moon, so I get to spend a lot of quality family time with my parents. Woo-hoo. My parent’s are both grey and white when they transform, which makes me wonder how in the hell I turned out to be solid white. Maybe I’m just a freak of nature, maybe I’m normal, if you can call being a werewolf normal.

When I’m not running around town as a wolf, I’m trying to graduate from Permian High School, which is the worst school you could ever try to graduate from, especially when you don’t really have a nice home to go to. I live in a dumpy, little, brown house in the middle of a forrest out on the outskirt’s of town, close to the mountains, where there’s plenty of wildlife, so delicious and mouthwatering, it just makes me want to..... oh sorry, anyway, as I was saying before I got so completely distracted, my home isn’t nice, but it’s home.

I was at school, trying to concentrate on the supposed myths we were studying in English, when my best friend in the entire world, Rosalinda Rodriguez, 5'3, body like a dancer, brown hair that falls to the small of her back, milk chocolate brown eyes, and nicest person you will ever meet, passed me a note. It said: Can I come over tonight and hang out, my parent’s won’t mind. (Mine will.) I thought. I wrote: Tonight’s not a good night, sorry." I passed the note back to Rosalinda and tried to pay attention to our teacher, Mr. Miller, mid-40’s to early 50’s, grey hair, grey eyes, build, for an old guy, who was explaining about werewolves and vampire’s like they were myths. I felt insulted, but kept my mouth shut, seeing as he didn’t know I was a werewolf.

Can anyone tell me why you do not see werewolves and vampire’s in the world today? asked Mr. Miller.

I kept my mouth shut, but Rosalinda raised her hand in the air. I started sinking down in my chair, hoping like hell Mr. Miller wouldn’t call on me, seeing as I was already failing the class and if I said what I was thinking, I would probably end up with detention after school, and I really couldn’t afford to stay after school too late.

    Rosalinda. said Mr. Miller.

Werewolves and vampire’s are just myths, they don’t exist, so, naturally, there wouldn’t be any vampire’s or werewolves in the world today. said Rosalinda.

I winced like she stabbed me, which she might as well have, the way she said I didn’t exist hurt really badly.

That’s what everybody in the world today wants you to think. Mr. Jones, can you tell us the truth about werewolves and vampire’s and where they are today? asked Mr. Miller, looking right at me.

Well, as far as I know, werewolves are in hiding. There could even be one in this classroom and no one would know, unless something happened to cause them to reveal themselves. I said, laughing.

And for the vampire’s? asked Mr. Miller.

I’ll have to ask my parent’s, they’re expert’s on werewolves and vampire’s, so they could tell me if vampire’s still exist today, or if the last of them were killed in Van Helsing’s day. I said, trying to stop laughing.

You do that and let me know tomorrow, class dismissed! Mr. Jones, can I talk to you for a minute? asked Mr. Miller.

I packed up my stuff and put my backpack on my back while the class filed out. I walked up to Mr. Miller’s desk and he looked at the last of the student’s filling out of the class. Once the last student was out of the room, Mr. Miller looked directly at me and I took a step back, ready to run for it if things got bad.

Where do you suppose the werewolves are hiding? asked Mr. Miller.

    I don’t know, sir. I said.

You have to know something about where the werewolves are hiding, seeing as I can see a bit of a tattoo on your arm! said Mr. Miller.

I took another step back and pulled my sleeves down as far as they could go, just so my wolf birthmark, marking me for what I am, wouldn’t be showing on my left arm. It was a little bitty thing that most people mistook for a dog or just an ink blot, so I was a bit surprised Mr. Miller thought it was a tattoo.

I have another class I have to go to. I said, dodging past him and running as fast as I could to my Math class.

Luckily for me, no one was in the hallway’s to comment on my speed. Being a werewolf, I had the added advantage of being fasther than your average human when I could run, just like a vampire. When I was about to transform, my speed was increased to faster than a vampire. My hearing was also superior to a humans. I could already hear Mr. Johnson’s lecture clear across the school.

I can’t be late again, my parent’s will eat me alive! I said to myself as I flat out ran to my math class clear across campus.

I slid into the classroom and slipped to my seat before Mr. Johnson said, Nice of you to join us, Mr. Jones.

Sorry I’m late, sir, please don’t tell my parent’s! I said.

See me after class, Mr. Jones. said Mr. Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was late 30’s to early 40’s, brown hair, blue eyes, wore black rimmed glasses, and made them look cool. I just started on the assignment and tried not to look too worried about what was going to happen to me when I got home from school. The class went by rather quickly and I was kind of glad I had lunch after this, so I didn’t have to worry about being late to yet another class. I finished my lesson for the day and finished my homework before I turned in my lesson and put my homework in my bag. When the bell rang at the end of class, I stayed in my seat while the rest of the class filed out. Mr. Johnson walked over to my desk and stood in front of me.

This is the fourth time you’ve been late to my class this year, I really should tell your parents, but you need to come back here after school for detention. said Mr. Johnson.

I started whimpering and tried to hide it as good as I could. I nodded my head and walked out of the class. I walked over to my locker and spun the combination as fast as I could before I put all my stuff in my locker and went to lunch. I looked at my watch and found I had enought time to go off campus and get some real food. I sprinted straight to my house and ran inside before I found my parent’s sitting at the kitchen table.

Randell, would you like to explain why you were late to class again? asked my dad.

I didn’t mean to be late to class, it just happened. I’m on lunch right now and I’m starving! I said, barely managing to contain my snarl.

You know where the food is, help yourself, and don’t you dare be late back to school or you’re grounded. said my dad, a growl rubling in the back of his throat.

Yes, sir. I said, searching threw the cabinet’s and the refrigerator for something that would qualify as food.

I found some hamburger meat in the refrigerator and looked back at my dad.

Is it okay if I eat this? I asked, holding out the hamburger meat.

Go ahead, I’ll hunt a little later. said my dad.

I opened the package of hamburger meat and choked it down in a few bites. Tonight was a full moon, so we were going to hit the town as a family. I gagged, but managed to keep it down.

I’d better get back to school. I said, looking at my watch.

I grabbed a bottle of water and drained it before I tossed it in the trash can. I sprinted back to school, going as fast as I could, since no one was around, and managed to get back to school in a matter of minutes. I walked inside and went to my locker before I grabbed my stuff for History. I went to class at a slower pace than I used to get back to school. I took my seat and waited for Mr. Ryder to come in. Rosalinda walked in and took her seat next to me.

So, what do you suppose we’ll learn in here today? asked Rosalinda.

Your guess is as good as mine. I said.

What are you hiding, Randell? asked Rosalinda.

I froze where I was, because she didn’t know I was a werewolf, or that I frequently ran to school instead of getting a ride from my parents.

What..... what do you mean? I choked out.

You’re hiding something from me, Randell, and I want to know what it is. said Rosalinda.

I’m not hiding anything, Rosa, you know that. I lied.

She was about to respond, when Mr. Ryder came in. Mr. Ryder was thirty-seven, black hair, brown eyes, and looked young enough to be a student, but wise enought to earn our respect. I exhaled in relief that she couldn’t keep questioning me and watched Mr. Ryder set his stuff on the desk.

Good afternoon, class, today we will be studying World War Two. said Mr. Ryder.

There was another side to World War Two that most people didn’t know about, and I had to keep my mouth shut or else I’d end up looking like a complete idiot and Mr. Ryder would make me out to be a liar and a cheat. The other side to World War Two was the fact that vampire’s and werewolves were fighting over territory at the same time the United States was fighting for it’s freedom from Britain. There are still territorial disputes between the vampire’s and werewolves, but my kind tend to shy away from the vampire’s territory as much as possible. Anyway, back in class, everyone groaned about studying World War Two. I just rolled my eyes because it was inevitable. Mr. Ryder handed out the assignment and I got started on it, only using my textbook to keep the story stright, seeing as I knew more about what really happened than most people. It wasn’t my fault the story was passed down threw my family. I turned in my assignment and sat back in my desk, waiting for class to be over. The bell rang and I ran out of the classroom, before I stopped at my locker for my stuff for Science. Once I had my stuff in hand, I ran to my Science class and got there before the bell rang.

Well, Mr. Jones, you are definitely here early for once, why is that? asked Mr. Tucker.

Mr. Tucker was forty, brown hair, brown eyes, and looked like a total science geek, minus the glasses. He had on black pants and you couldn’t see what color shirt he wore under the white lab coat he always wore to class. I hesitated before I answered.

No traffic in the halls? I suggested as the rest of the class got there.

I took my seat and Mr. Tucker accepted my explanation. Rosalinda walked in and took her customary seat next to me. We waited for the rest of the class to get here and then Mr. Tucker paried us up for a project. Rosalinda and I ended up partners.

Okay class, look threw some of these paper’s and pick your poison, so to speak. said Mr. Tucker.

Rosalinda and I looked threw one stack of paper’s and came up with a reverse dog grooming machine that would take dog hair and make it into coat’s, bypassing a groomer and designer.

Think we can really build it? asked Rosalinda.

Oh, I can build it, the question is, will it work? I asked.

Who’s mutt would we test it on? asked Rosalinda.

I think it would be best to test it on stray’s, just so we don’t have to ask permission from someone to borrow their dog for an experiment. They might not like that. I said, smiling.

Okay, so we’ll get together at your house after school and get started. said Rosalinda.

I’ve got detention after school and my parent’s won’t let me have visitor’s after school at my house, so think we could go to your house instead, Rose? I asked, pleading.

I’m sure my parent’s won’t mind if we work on our science project at my house. Do you want me to wait until you get out of detention before I leave? asked Rosalinda.

That’d be great, Rose. I said, looking at my watch.

Class was about to get out and I had to go to the detention room before I could do the rest of my homework.

If you want, I could sit outside the detention room and work on the rest of my homework while I wait for you to get out. said Rosalinda.

That would be great. I said, smiling.

Think we will ever be more than just friends? asked Rosalinda, looking at her desk.

The bell rang before I could answer her, and I was still thinking about it. I packed up my stuff and we went to the detention room before I went inside and she sat outside. I took a deep breath and walked to a table before I got started on my homework. I had to sit in that stupid room for an hour, which was plenty of time for me to finish my homework. When Mr. Winston (chubby, 5' 5", bald), the principal, said I could go, I walked out of the room and found Rosalinda sitting at a table, packing up her stuff.

    Finished your homework? I asked.

Except our project, you? asked Rosalinda.

    Same. I said.

You didn’t answer my question earlier, Randell. said Rosalinda.

It’s not exactly a good idea for me to have a girlfriend right now, some thing’s are just beyond my control. I said, as honestly as I could.

    Like? asked Rosalinda.

I can’t explain it, I’m sorry. I said, hoping she wouldn’t be mad at me.

The truth was, I was having control issues with my transformation’s and I didn’t want her to get hurt because of me.

Are you telling me the truth? asked Rosalinda, sounding hurt.

I’m being as honest as I can. I should probably talk this over with my parents. I said.

Talk what over with your parents? asked Rosalinda.

The idea of me having a girlfriend. I just want to make sure nothing bads going to happen. I said.

    Like? asked Rosalinda.

I can’t explain it. I need to talk this over with my parents. I said, hoping she’d drop it.

She looked hurt, but let the subject drop. We left the school and headed to her house to get started on our Science project. Once we got to her house, she went inside with me right behind her.

Rosalinda Vanessa Rodriguez, where have you been! demanded her dad.

He had dark brown hair, brown eyes, 5' 10", strong enought to toss me out of his house, if I didn’t put up a fight, and a look on his face that told me he was watching every move I made to make damn sure I didn’t try anything on Rosalinda.

Dad, I had to wait for my science partner to get out of detention so we could get started on our Science project. said Rosalinda.

Who’s your science partner? asked her mom.

She had brown hair, milk chocolate eyes, 5', graceful like a gazelle, but with the eyes of a hawk.

Me. My name’s Randell, Randell Jones. I said.

    Age? asked her dad.

    Seventeen. I said.

    Parents? asked her dad.

Rodolfo and Randi Jones. I said.

Are you a virgin? asked her hdad.

    What? I asked, shocked.

Just answer the question. said her dad, advancing on me.

I took two involuntary steps back and my back hit the closed front door. I was fighting the urge to bolt then and there, but a tentative look at Rosalinda stopped me. I could tell she didn’t want me to leave.

I’m seventeen, I’m not interested in loosing my virginity any time soon. I said, as honestly as I could.

Good answer, Randell, good answer. said her dad before he put his hand on my shoulder and I flinched.

Dad, we really need to get started on our Science project. said Rosalinda.

Show Randell to your room, but keep the door open. said her dad.

    Yes, sir. I said.

Rosalinda walked me to her room and I sat down on her bed while we figured out the mechaninc’s of our project. I ended up with a scale model made in a few minutes.

That is amazing, Randell, how long do you think it’ll take us to make the real thing? asked Rosalinda.

I’m not sure, but it shouldn’t take too long. I said.

When should we gather up the material for the real thing? asked Rosalinda.

I looked at my watch and found it was getting late.

We can gather up the material tomorrow after school, provided I don’t end up with detention again. I said.

Do you need a ride home? asked Rosalinda.

I don’t live that far, I can walk home. I’ll see you tomorrow, Rosa, and I’ll let you know what my parents way about me having a girlfriend. I said, smiling.

Rosalinda walked me to the door and I looked up to see it was later than I realized. I threw my backpack on both shoulders and took a deep breath before I walked out the door. Rosalinda stopped me and pulled me back before she kissed me on the lips. I was pleasantly surprised and I found myself kissing her back. Her lips tasted like the sweetest candy in the world and they were soft as silk. In the back of my mind I was screaming at myself to stop before I did something stupider than I already had or before I put her in any more danger than just kissing her, but I just told that part of my mind to shut the fuck up! When we finally parted, I was grinning like an idiot and she looked like she was about to pass out.

Wow. said Rosalinda as I said, Whoa.

That was amazing, for my first kiss. said Rosalinda.

I know what you mean, I really should be getting home, I didn’t realize how late it was and my parent’s are probably worried about me. I said.

Rosalinda went inside and I sprinted to my house before I put my stuff in my room.

Mom, Dad, I’m home, when do we hunt? I asked.

My parents were already grey and white with four leg’s and fur, so I quickly joined them and we took off into the forrest, letting our instinct’s guide us. I found a herd of deer and knew I was going to get noticed by at least one of them, since I stuck out so much. I heard a gunshot and laid down on the forrest floor before my head whipped around and I tried to make out where the shot came from. I saw Mr. Miller in black ops holding a sniper rifle forty miles away, aimed right at me. I yelped and took off at top speed into the forrest, searching for a place to hide while also searching for food. I found a cave and jumped inside, panting. I was starving, but I couldn’t find some food while getting shot at by a sniper rifle. I sniffed around in the cave and heard something shuffling around behind me. I turned around and saw a black wolf, growling at me. I knew it wasn’t my parent’s and I also knew it wasn’t a werewolf, but an actual wolf. I took a couple steps back and turned around before I felt the wolf grab my right back leg with his teeth. I yelped and decided I’d rather take my chances with Mr. Miller. I felt my right back leg snap in half and yelped even louder. I turned around and bit at his neck, trying to get him to let go of my leg. As soon as he let go, I hopped out of his lair and found a rabbit a little ways off. I caught it in my teeth and carried it with me out of the wolf’s territory. Once I was almsot back to my house, I devoured my rabbit and went inside, before I went to my room and curled up on the floor, licking my poor leg. The rest of the night passed without trouble.

    46763.png

I woke up the next morning, fully human with my right leg bleeding where the wolf bit me. I couldn’t walk on it without pain, so I called my parents into my room and they helped me get to my feet.

Let’s take you to a doctor, son, maybe they’ll be able to help. said my dad.

They helped me put on some shorts and I put a pair of pants into my backpack to change into after I got out of the doctor’s office. I put on a random shirt and was glad it would match both pair’s of jean’s. My parent’s helped me into their car and drove me to our doctor’s office, Dr. Humberto. Dr. Humberto was forty-nine, black hair, brown eyes, 6' 7", with a PhD. My parent’s helped me inside and helped me back into his office. He didn’t have any other patient’s this morning, so I got right back to see him.

What happened this time, Randell? asked Dr. Humberto.

I looked at my parents because we knew we couldn’t tell him the truth. I couldn’t come up with a plausible story to tell, so I just stayed quiet while my parent’s came up with the story. As a werewolf, I didn’t have to worry about rabies, the disease wouldn’t survive inside my body once I changed forms.

He was attacked by a wolf last night. He snuck out and went for a late night walk in the forrest without a flashlight. We found him this morning in the forrest. said my dad.

I wasn’t really up for arguing with that story.

Has he ever been vaccinated for rabies? asked Dr. Humberto.

My parent’s both shook their head’s and Dr. Humberto grabbed the vaccine. He injected the vaccine into my right arm and my parent’s held me down while my body fought off the disease. Dr. Humberto cleaned up my leg and stitched it up while I was fighting off the rabies vaccine. Once my leg was wrapped up, he gave me some crutches and told me to stay off it until the bone healed in two weeks. I nodded my head and got situated on the crutches. I changed into my other jean’s and my parent’s helped me into their car before they toook me to school. I found Rosalinda waiting for me outside the school by the door.

Have a good day son and let us know if we have to come get you after school. said my mom.

I still have a science project to work on, so I’ll probably go over to Rosalinda’s house after school. I’ll call you when I’m ready to leave there, if they don’t offer to take me home, then I’ll come up with an excuse to get out of it. I said.

Okay, son, have a good day. said my dad.

Then I remembered what I wanted to ask them last night before I got bit by the stupid wolf.

Oh, mom, dad, do you think it’s safe for me to have a girlfriend? I asked.

Do you think you’d ever hurt her when you transform? asked my dad.

I would never hurt her. I can control myself fairly well when I transform. I said.

As long as you can control yourself, I see no reason you shouldn’t have a girlfriend, who were you thinking of? asked my dad.

I looked behind me and saw Rosalinda was still waiting for me. I smiled and turned back to my dad.

I’ll introduce you after school, since I’ll have to get a ride home. I said.

Sound’s fair, have a good day, son. said my dad.

I just smiled and walked over to where Rosalinda was waiting for me. I looked at my watch and found I wasn’t late yet.

Okay, maybe my parents should drive me more often. I said, smiling.

What happened to you? asked Rosalinda.

I went for a walk in the forrest surrounding my house last night and was attacked by a wolf. I said, repeating the story my dad came up with.

Oh, you poor thing, let’s get you to class so you can get off your leg. said Rosalinda.

She helped me to class and I took my seat. Rosalinda took her seat next to me and we waited for Mr. Miller to come into the classroom. When Mr. Miller walked in the classroom, I flinched as I remembered the bullet that almost hit me last night. Luckily, nobody noticed my reaction. Mr. Miller assigned an essay about werewolves due the next day and I got started on the outline. I finished my outline before the bell rang and packed up my stuff. Rosalinda helped me carry my stuff to our Math class and we took our seat’s. Mr. Johnson walked in and assigned us a few pages out of our books. We worked on them in silence and turned them in once we finished them. We sat back at our desk’s and waited for the bell to ring for lunch. Once the bell rang at the end of the class, Rosalinda and I walked out of the classroom together.

Did your parent’s give you any money for lunch? asked Rosalinda.

No, I forgot to ask them for lunch money. I said.

Well, I have my car, so we can go to my house for lunch, unless you think we can go to your house for lunch? asked Rosalinda.

How fast can you drive? I asked.

I can make it across town and back before lunch, why? asked Rosalinda.

Okay, then we can goto my house for lunch and I can introduce you to my parents. I said.

We threw our stuff in our lockers and went to her car. She unlocked the door’s and we got in her car.

How far out am I driving? asked Rosalinda.

Clear across town, you’ll see a forrest, that’s where you’ll pull over and park. From there, we’ll have to walk. I said.

How far will we have to walk? asked Rosalinda.

    Not far. I said.

She drove over to my house and parked next to the forrest I lived inside. I took a deep breath and prayed my ankle would support me into the house. Rosalinda walked next to me and we walked over to my house.

Mom, Dad, please tell me there’s something here for lunch! I said, once we walked in.

Randell, what are you doing home? asked my dad.

You didn’t give me any money and it was either my house or Rosa’s house. I said, looking next to me.

Rosalinda, nice to see you, what are you doing here? asked my dad.

Randell invited me to lunch, so I gave him a ride here. said Rosalinda.

Mom, dad, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Rosalinda, these are my parents, Rodolfo and Randi Jones. I said, smiling.

Nice to meet you, Rosalinda, have you eaten anything for lunch yet? asked my mom.

Not yet, and we’re running out of time before we have to get back to school. said Rosalinda.

I was rooting around in the cabinet’s and in the refrigerator trying to come up with something edible that would be fast, since we were running out of time. I sniffed around and smelled a lasagna in the oven.

When did you put the lasagna in? I asked, inhaling the delicious scent.

It’s almost done, just give it a few more minutes. said my mom.

I sat down at the table and Rosalinda sat next to me. Once the lasagna was finished, my mom put it on the table and we waited a few minutes for it to cool. Once it was ready to eat, Rosalinda fixed her plate, then my mom, dad, and I split the remainder.

What would you like to drink, kids? asked my dad.

Soda. said Rosalinda and I together.

My dad tossed me two soda’s from the refrigerator and I caught them both, before I tapped the top’s to stop the fizz. I handed one to Rosalinda and I kept the other. We scarfed our food and drained our soda’s before we took our plate’s to the kitchen.

See you when I get home! I said, heading out the door with Rosalinda right behind me.

We got in her car and she drove back to tschool, making it back in five minutes. We went inside and stopped at our locker’s before we grabbed our stuff for History. We ran to class and took our seat’s before the bell rang.

Good afternoon, class, today we will be continuing our study of World War Two. said Mr. Ryder.

The class groaned in unison and we did the work without another word. I turned in my assignent and sat back at my desk, waiting for the bell to ring. Once the bell rang, I jumped out of my chair and walked to the door with Rosalinda right behind me. We walked to Mr. Tucker’s Science class and took our seat’s while we waited for him to start the lesson.

Good afternoon, class, today we will be discussing Newton’s Third law of motion, can anyone tell me what that is exactly? asked Mr. Tucker.

Newton’s Third law of motion states that for every action, or force, there is an equal and opposite reaction, or force. I quoted from memory.

Can anybody tell me what that means? asked Mr. Tucker.

It means that for anything you do you cause a reaction equal to the action you originally did. I said.

Exactly. Now, today we will be testing various chemicals to see what reaction we get. said Mr. Tucker.

I messed around with a few of the chemicals and managed to create a pretty colorful cloud of smoke, causing everyone to clear out of the room, except me. I managed to hold my breath until the smoke cleared. I looked in the beaker and saw a brown liquid. I sniffed at the liquid and it smelled rather enticing. I was rather sure it wouldn’t be safe to drink, so I carried the beaker over to the sink and poured out the chemicals, rinsing them down the sink.

Mr. Jones, what exactly did you put in that beaker? asked Mr. Tucker, coming back in the room with the rest of the class.

A little of this and a little of that, some of this stuff here, and voilá! I said, pointing out the chemicals I used.

Now what did you do with your concoction? asked Mr. Tucker.

I was rather sure it wouldn’t be safe to drink, so I carried the beaker to the sink and rinsed the chemicals down the drain. I said.

You know your lab safety, I’ll give you that much, Mr. Jones. Why didn’t you evacuate with the rest of us? asked Mr. Tucker.

I wanted to see what color the concoction was going to be, so I just held my breath until the smoke cleared. I said, grinning.

And what color was it, Mr. Jones? asked Mr. Tucker.

It turned out to be brown and it smelled rather enticing after the smoke cleared, but I wasn’t sure about it and you know the rest. I said, continuing to grin.

Okay, for your homework, review what reaction you got from the chemicals and decide how you could’ve gotten a different reaction. said Mr. Tucker as the bell rang.

Rosalinda and I went to our lockers and got out our stuff to do our homework before we went outside and got in her car. She drove over to her house and we tried to come up with the material’s we would need for our science project.

Rosalinda and I looked at our design closely, trying to figure out what all we needed to get to build it. We made a list and decided to go to the store and see what we could come up with.

Before we go to the store to see what all we can come up with, what do you say we search the forrest first, we might find some material we could use to build our device. I suggested.

    Let’s go. said Rosalinda.

We drove over to a nearby forrest and she parked on the side. We got out and searched around the forrest floor for a while. I couldn’t really find anything decent on the floor.

See anything we could use? I asked.

I can’t find anything decent, you? asked Rosalinda.

I’m coming up empty. Let’s keep looking, we’re bound to find something we can use. We’ll split up and see what we can find. I said.

    Agreed. said Rosalinda.

She went to the left and I went to the right. Once I was sure she couldn’t see me, I took off running at full speed around the forrest, looking for the best stuff we could use for our project. I ended up with a towering pile of wood before I found a vine hanging from a tree. I set the wood down and grabbed the vine and pulled as hard as I could, before the branch it was attached to came crashing down on top of me. I was knocked out once it hit my head. Once I regained consciousness, I found I was still on the forrest floor. The branch was lying across my body and it weighed more than it looked. I put my hands underneath the branch and pushed with all my strength, barely managing to get it up enough for me to squeeze out from under it. I shook off the pain I was in and pulled out my pocket knife before I cut the vine off the branch. I coiled it up and started gathering up the wood I set down before I started looking around for more wood. I was looking around, when the snap of a twig to my right made me turn and see what was going on. I looked closely to my right and saw the same wolf who bit my leg slinking in a circle around me.

Oh great, I should’ve known this was your territory, just let me gather up my stuff and I’ll be going. I said.

I gathered up all my stuff and took a step back, walking as slowly as I could without wincing. The wolf snarled at me and I knew he wanted me for dinner, it was just a matter of time before he attacked. I heard a gun fired and flinched. I looked around and saw the wolf take off into the forrest. I kept looking around and saw Mr. Miller drop down out of a tree.

Are you okay, Randell? asked Mr. Miller.

Yeah, thanks for scaring off that wolf. I said.

I was trying to kill it, but I only grazed it’s shoulder. Need some help? asked Mr. Miller.

No, I got it. I said, adjusting my stuff in my arms.

I used the vine I cut off the tree to tie the branches together and saw Mr. Miller was still watching my every move.

Are you sure you don’t need some help? asked Mr. Miller.

I’m sure. I said, tying the bundle of branches to my left crutch.

RANDELL! screamed Rosalinda at the top of her lungs.

I tried to walk forward, but my legs crumpled under me and I fell to the forrest floor.

Stay here, I’ll go get her and bring her here! said Mr. Miller.

It’s not like I have a choice. I muttered uner my breath as Mr. Miller took off into the forrest.

I grabbed my crutches and crawled over to a tree, before I sat down and tried to relax under the tree. I felt so vulnerable, just sitting under the tree as a human. My senses were on high alert, waiting for Mr. Miller to come back with Rosalinda. I kept turning at the slightest noises, the snap of a twig, the rustling of the leaves around me, the rustling of the grass beneath me.

When Mr. Miller came back with Rosalinda, I dropped my branches and scrambled to my feet. I quickly got situated on my crutches and walked over to her side before I wrapped my arms around her.

Rosa, I’m so glad you’re okay. I said.

I’m so glad I found you again, I saw a wolf and it scared me. said Rosalinda.

I saw the wolf too. Mr. Miller, you should’ve killed it. I said.

I won’t miss next time. said Mr. Miller.

Rosalinda and I gathered up our stuff and walked back to my house before we started building our project. It took us a total of four hours to build our machine.

I’ll be right back, I’m going to go get our test subject. I said.

Okay, I’ll wait here. said Rosalinda.

I ran outside and looked around for a stray dog, but I couldn’t find one in the area.

Damn it, I was sure there’d be a stray around here somewhere. I said, looking around my house.

I looked all throughout the forrest I lived in and couldn’t find a stray dog anywhere. I walked over to the road and finally got lucky. I saw a stray German Shepard. The dog walked right up to me and let me pet it. I looked at it’s genitals and noticed it was a girl.

Awe, you poor thing, you don’t have a home, do you, girl? I asked.

She nuzzled my hand and I started petting her again. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to test out our machine on a German Shephard simply because they never really needed to be groomed. I was kind of hoping to find a stray poodle, but I’d take what I could find.

Come on, girl, I promise you won’t get hurt. I said.

She followed right next to me the entire way back to my house, where Rosalinda was waiting for me.

Awe, Randell, who’s dog is that? asked Rosalinda.

She’s a stray, but I may keep her if my parent’s will let me. I said, smiling.

Okay, let’s test out our machine. said Rosalinda.

Don’t worry, it shouldn’t hurt you, girl. I said, patting her head.

I led her onto the machine and turned it on. I watched as she was groomed and primed. I noticed she wasn’t freaking out completely, and I appreciated that. Once she was groomed, I looked over where the coat would appear and saw it hanging on a hanger.

Try it on, Rosalinda. I said, smiling.

She put her arm’s threw the sleeves and it fit her perfectly.

Randell, I can’t believe this actually worked. We’ll have to find another dog for our demonstration in class, but this is so cool! said Rosalinda.

I just smiled and started petting the beautifully groomed German Shepherd. Right then, my parent’s walked in.

Randell, what is that? asked my mom, pointing at the groomed German Shepherd.

It’s just a dog. Rosalinda and I finished our Science project and we needed a test subject, so we went outside and found a stray dog to use as our test subject, and you can see how well it worked. I said, smiling at Rosalinda’s new fur coat.

You build this contraption? How are you supposed to get it into the school? asked my dad.

That’s why we put it on wheel’s. I said, smiling.

Oh, Randell, it’s starting to get cold outside, so I suggest you wear a jacket when you take Rosalinda home. said my mom.

    No problem. I said, smiling.

What do you plan to do with the dog now? asked my mom.

I was wondering if I could keep her? I asked.

You take care of her, and I guess you can keep her. said my dad.

What are you going to name her? asked my mom.

I was thinking, Tania? I asked.

That sound’s like a nice name, is there a special meaning behind the name? asked my dad.

It’s Slavic meaning fairy queen. I said.

We’ll have to get her shot’s, and a collar with tag’s, so that if she runs away, they’ll bring her home. said my mom.

You won’t run away, will you, Tania? I asked.

She barked twice and rubbed her head against my leg so I’d pet her. I started petting her and she laid down next to me. A random idea just popped into my head and I blurted it out before I could stop myself.

Mom, dad, do you think it’d be okay if Rosalinda stayed the night tomorrow night? I asked.

My parent’s stared at me and I knew they were thinking about it, hard. We wouldn’t hunt again until the next full moon, next month, so my parent’s had to really think about letting my bestfriend/girlfriend spend the night.

If it’s okay with her parent’s and you won’t do anything, I don’t see why she can’t spend the night tomorrow night. said my mom.

Speaking of night, I think I’d better be getting home. said Rosalinda.

Here’s your coat, Rosalinda. I said, smiling and handing her the brand new fur coat made curtisy of Tania.

I put on my old coat and Rosalinda put on her fur coat. We got in her car and she drove over to her house.

How will you get home, Randell? asked Rosalinda.

Don’t worry about me, you know I don’t really live too terribly far from you. I said, smiling.

I walked her to her door and her mom opened the door.

And just where have you been, young lady? asked her dad.

I was with Randell at his house working on our Science project. said Rosalinda.

Mr. Rodriguez, would it be okay if Rosalinda stayed the night at my house tomorrow night? I asked.

Will anything happen between you two? asked her dad.

    No, sir. I said.

Okay, she can spend the night with you, as long as nothing happens tomorrow night. said her dad.

I’ll see you then, Rosa. I said, smiling.

See you tomorrow, Randell. said Rosalinda.

I thought about giving her a kiss goodnight, but I didn’t want her parent’s to think we were rushing things.

Permission to give Rosalinda a hug? I asked, looking at her dad.

Permission granted, just keep it short. said her dad.

I wrapped my arm’s around her and she wrapped her arms around me.

See you tomorrow night, Randell. said Rosalinda.

See you tomorrow night, Rosalinda. I said, letting her go.

She let go of me and I walked out of her house. She followed me out before she kissed me on the lips. I kissed her back and wrapped my arms around her waist, holding her to me. I moved my lips to her neck and she held my head to her neck. I kissed her neck and tried not to give her a hickey, even though I really wanted to mark her, I knew it wouldn’t be a good idea.

Randell, I want more. said Rosalinda.

I pushed away from her and just stared at her.

    Excuse me? I asked.

She put her hand on the outside of my pants and I froze. I wanted it too, but that would be rushing things, not to mention I promised her dad nothing would
