Story
of OrkZen
In December 2018, I escaped to a nice hotel in Phuket in search of sanity. I was going through a tough time after some very long years of feeling miserable, guilty, and inadequate. I felt like a failure and was dissatisfied with my life. After a failed marriage and nearly going bankrupt twice, I just wanted to escape. This was when I started to work on my life and my inner ‘self.’
I wanted to have a new beginning and decided to ‘improve’ my life and live to fulfill my inner desires. I wanted to be ‘me.’
Deep down, I knew what type of life and job I wanted. I just did not know how to get there!
On the way to my flight, I bought the book Believe It to Achieve It by Brian Tracy, which started a journey that transformed my life.
This book is my way of ‘paying it forward.’
Need
for OrkZen
Reading hundreds of management books, following great concepts and hundreds of methods aimed at improving productivity, and listening to personal development coaches, thought leaders and the like have given me an enormous advantage in transforming my own life.
Yet, after observing my efforts in my own business and the businesses of others, both big and small, I knew there needed to be a simple and practical method that could translate all I’d learned into actual results, the results that would allow me to achieve my goals.
I needed a method that I could use to practice what great thought leaders have preached.
Since I could not find one, I did what I always do—created my own!
OKR, Kaizen, and MBO provided the perfect combination of approaches that allowed me to come up with something that resonated with what I have learned, seen, and experienced both in business and my personal life. OrkZen was born, and to my surprise, OrkZen exceeded my own expectations!
OrkZen has helped me to create my own businesses and become a successful businessman, business strategist and entrepreneur, as well as the founder of MyGPMPtool (MGT), a fast-growing medical software platform in Australia.
OrkZen helped me do all this while I was being a single dad, taking care of my elderly parents, working a full-time job, creating a business from the bedroom, retraining myself in software development, and, finally, writing and publishing this book!
OrkZen is a method to achieve
organizational and personal goals
If you want to achieve goals, if you want to increase your chances of success, if you want to implement all that you have learned from some of the most respected motivational speakers and self-help books, if you want to be super focused, or if you or your organization want to find a way to implement strategic decisions within the organization, then OrkZen can be the answer, as it was for me.
About
the author
I was born in a rural village in Sri Lanka. Born to a teacher and a government servant, I had to endure hardship as my parents struggled to overcome middle-class financial and social challenges. From early on, I did not accept my circumstances. I learned to be a fighter by dreaming big.
With just one pair of shorts, I went on to win at the national wrestling championship and participated in gymnastics at the national level.
I had to wear the same dress every day at school, while my mother walked miles on foot to save money for my education and my dad was barely meeting my boarding and tuition fees. Yet, I managed to become a doctor in Sri Lanka.
In medical school, I wanted to invent a new test for snake bites, a diagnostic device for appendicitis, and use NK cells to cure cancer. Though none of these plans came to fruition, and I was rejected by my university professors, colleagues and others, I continued to think and dream big.
My failed marriage and disastrous business ventures did not stop me from following my dreams. While the odds were long and others advised me to follow a traditional way of living, I decided to follow my heart and created MyGPMPtool, now the second-largest chronic disease management software platform in Australia.
This book is proof that having the right mindset and beliefs, taking the right actions, and maintaining a determination to keep moving in the right direction towards the right goals will only lead to success for those who are able to see failures as opportunities.
You are not your circumstances.
You are your possibilities.
If you know that, you can do anything.
—Oprah Winfrey
This book is dedicated to everyone
trying to create something better
than what they have today!
Acknowledgments
Until I started transforming myself, I used to blame others for what I did not have and what I did not like, but one day, in an isolated hotel room in Phuket, I realized that I have the power within to create my life. That was the day I started acknowledging everything that had happened to me and everyone I had met in various situations actually made me who I was.
As such, it is so difficult to thank only a few select people when my entire life experiences have helped me to become who I am today and, hence, are responsible for the creation of this book.
But there are two individuals I must acknowledge here for a simple reason.
They made me realize that life flows from one person to another in a way that means we are here to never own life but to just experience it.
My son, Thinura, who is just eleven years old at the time of writing, has taught me more lessons than I have taught him. He has reminded me of the genius within every child, a genius that we take for granted. He suggested that I should include the story of OrkZen on the back cover, so
