Claire Burbank is 12 years old & lives with her family in Nottingham. I always knew I had a passion for writing. In any free time I get, I think, "I want to write!" There are three reasons I do: 1. It's really fun to tell my own fictional stories with detail, drama & comedy. 2. I want to publish my books so the world can read them and enjoy them. 3. I want people to know the important issue of bullying but have a good time learning about it in a fun way It all started back in third grade when I made a little book about bullying. (Available on iTunes, just search Claire Burbank) It was about this girl named Amelda and she gets bullied. She gets teased about her appearance and how she was different from the others. I had watched many movies about bullying and had seen some people get bullied and didn't even realize it. I wanted to make up for all of those times I didn't stand up for the other person and those times I might have been apart of the teasing by writing a little book. It probably took me about ten minutes to write this little 7 paged picture book. I brought it to my classroom and showed it to my guidance counselor, who was the person it was dedicated to. She recognized my care for bullying and put it on the school website. When it was taken down for the next piece of news to be shown, I wanted people to keep viewing it. So, I decided to publish it along with the help of my dad and his many IT director friends. It was a long process, but we ended up publishing it on iTunes, and I wanted to keep writing. So, I decided to make and publish more books about bullying, realistic fiction or not so realistic fiction. I currently have published 9 books, I have worked really hard on all of these books, I appreciate it and hope it helps Stop Bullying.

No,
I refused. NO MOM, I’m NOT getting up! It’s 7:30!
Exactly!
Mom shouted back. School starts in a half an hour and you STILL have homework to do!
I looked at my Batman alarm clock and then slowly and tiredly moved my neck and eyes towards the scattered papers of attempts to write an essay on my desk. When I realized it was Monday instead of Saturday, I jumped up from my bed, and with bags under my eyes, I grabbed my backpack full of school supplies and rushed downstairs to start working.
One hand had a spoon in it, the other held a pencil.
The United States has about 15 thousand…
I started muttering to myself. And um…uh….
And at that moment, I dozed off. And about fifteen minutes later, Mom found me with my left cheek flat against the table, snoring and drooling on it. My cereal was soggy by then, but who cares? It was 7:45!!!
Oh my gosh,
she yelled, which woke me up. What time is it?
I groaned.
It doesn’t matter, just get ready for school. We have…
she checked her watch. 5 minutes until we have to leave!
While I quickly scribbled down facts for my schoolwork, Mom said this wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t stayed up all night playing video games.
I knew if I had replied she would just tell me to get to work again. So, my mouth remained silent, but my mind was screaming with stress. It took me about three minutes to get at least a B- quality, so that left me two minutes to get ready. I shoved some snacks into my backpack and grabbed my essay.
Ready!
I exclaimed, out of breath. Let’s go!
Jackson, don’t you think that something’s missing?
Mom asked me.
No,
I answered. I realized what she was talking about when I started to get my shoes on. I was still in my pajamas.
Ugh!
I groaned again. I quickly slipped some pants on over my shorts. I ended up wearing my SpongeBob pajama shirt, hoping no one would notice that this was the shirt I had just slept in.
Mom and I jumped in the car and took off down the street. I ended up being five minutes late, but after that morning, I was lucky to be at school at all! Well, kind of lucky.
With a tardy pass in hand,
