Got to Get You into My Life …
I was alone, I took a ride
I didn’t know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I
Could see another kind of mind there

I don’t care if Warren Buffet is your financial advisor.
Power does not come from relying on someone else to handle your money.
It is created when you—and only you—take the initiative about your money.

HELP
This book has been in my head for years, and it has been a cathartic experience to finally transfer it to paper. I’ve had a career in the financial services industry for decades and felt so out of place with the shark-like nature of the environment. If the word broker
intimidates you as a client, imagine how I felt as a working woman trying to navigate myself and my clients amongst this sea of predatory salesmen. Truthfully, there are good advisors amongst us, but there are also advisors out there who put their own interests before their clients’. It was so frustrating to lose a potential client to an advisor who either embellished or misrepresented an investment. It didn’t seem right to witness advisors who were not being truly honest with their clients, without any concern that their actions may cause their clients to risk losing their hard-earned savings or miss meeting their financial goals. I was truthful, fair, and competitive in disclosing risks and fees. This transparency hurt me at times, since many advisors never even discussed these major details, mesmerizing clients with their intimidating, investment-lingo-speaking entourage and gazillion-page, labyrinthine presentations. It was also so uninspiring to be forced by management to attend unproductive after-hours meetings and dinners hosted by mutual fund companies that were eager to incentivize us to push their products. I was a single mom back in the day, when I got my start in the investment side of the financial services industry and will admit to having made every excuse in the book to be there for my girls instead of attending these unproductive boys’ club
meetings. I don’t regret any of these decisions, and I am confident I made the best choices for myself by honoring my priorities and principles.
I have always had it in my heart to write a brief guide to help clients make better investing decisions
