    Those were the iconic words that crackled through the little black and white television set in the Edwards’ household.

    Freddie and his father were in their living room, eagerly watching their team...the beloved New York Giants! They were taking on the Brooklyn Dodgers for the 1951 National League Pennant.

    Just like Freddie, the New York Giants   had many challenges that year. The Giants were not expected to even compete for the National League title. The team got off to a very slow start . By the end of April, they were in last place, and by August 11, they were thirteen   games behind in the standings. In those times, only the best team from each league would face each other in the World Series. There wasn’t a multiple team playoff format like we have today. However, the Giants ended up winning their final seven games of the season, while the first place Dodgers lost six of their last ten games. This would force a three-game tie breaker for first place in the National League. Freddie was no stranger to playing from behind.
