    I look down upon my home world, a pretty little planet called Earth. From here, next to the closest moon, I can see everything from the silent ship that has been my home for three years. I say home, and yet it is more like a glorified prison. All the comforts of my home planet, yet the one thing I want is the Earth beneath my feet. To feel dirt between my toes, hear a fresh wild stream, feel the air blow across my face. But it will not be, for my world is gone. Even as I look upon this Earth below the ship, it is not mine. My world perished three years ago.

    It perished because the Council willed it so.

    But it perished by my order.

    On the day they came, the sun rose like it always did. The people all over the world went about their daily tasks: giving away bits of their lives to earn the idea of currency only to turn around and exchange the currency for physical goods or services. It had been this way for several hundred years, and it would have continued had they not come. Three years ago, at half past ten in the morning, a news report flashed across every television screen on the continent of North America. Within minutes, similar news reports flashed across screens in countries all over the world. Translated in several hundred languages, the message was simple: Object in space coming to Earth. To some, it was the end times. To others, a sign of great and wonderful change. As the
