Chasing Jesus - Jack Prohaska
A deeply spiritual epiphany involving the Language of God
has profoundly affected my Christian life. This book is for those out there who, if their hearts and minds are open to it and they recognize it for what it is, might well have the same experience.

A masterpiece of Christian witness in a down-to-earth and easy read. The author uses subtle humor and creativity to share with the reader the serious struggle for God and Truth. The author is vulnerable before the reader, revealing the tension between his deep stirrings of faith and the existential confusion of his church-going experience. An honest and sincere indictment of modern-day churches, but with the eventual endorsement of the value of the Christian faith (churches included) in finding answers in our lives.

"I was moved by Chasing Jesus…it is a humorous, nearly indescribable journey that will relate to anyone who reads it. Jack’s ability to narrate his path moves the reader in a manner rare among religious texts. Not a feel-good or a ‘Kum ba yah’, this book is unique—an atypical Christian work that will touch persons of all faiths. I really wish I had read it earlier!"

"I have known Mr. Prohaska since high school and admire his ability as a wordsmith. Here is a writer who looks at the Christian experience truly objectively, covering a great variety of things, seeding profound concepts with wit and common sense throughout. This is a unique book, the core of which is a surprising gift C. S. Lewis left us all. Lewis called it ‘essential’—something for Christians of all persuasions."
Rev. John Shriver, BS and M.Ed.,

"Chasing Jesus is the humorous, endearing, and soul-searching journey of a ‘regular guy’ finding the promise of Christian Joy that often seems elusive. This personal discovery is a practical account of what many believers and non-believers struggle with: Where is God in my struggles? Jack not only finds his Joy in God, but leaves a ‘pebble-trail’ that the rest of us can solidly walk to the feet of our Savior."
Nikki Nader, Lt. Col., USAF (ret.)
Earnest and entertaining…written with humility, humor and truly profound insights on nagging questions regarding rubber meets the road
Christianity. A tell it like it is
, no holds barred personal conversation with the reader, based on this man’s rich life adventure and searching. I know Christians of whatever persuasion will enjoy the journey. I sure did. His challenge to everyone, including himself, is summed up in the quote from St. Francis in the Closing Thoughts section of the book: "Preach the Gospel always. When necessary,
use words".

Jack’s spiritual journey that is captured in Chasing Jesus was written as though he was witnessing my very journey through his eyes. From the first paragraph to the post-script, he engages the reader in a page-turning story as he navigates through his own quest in discovering Christianity. Jack leads the reader down a path of self-awareness that is guaranteed to stir a variety of emotions that at times brought me to tears. Chasing Jesus is unfiltered, visceral and heart-felt and is guaranteed to touch any individual, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey.

5-STAR REVIEW…CHASING JESUS
BY K. C. FINN FOR READERS’ FAVORITE
Chasing Jesus is a short work of non-fiction on Christian themes of devotion and explorative Bible study, and was penned by author Jack Prohaska. Discussing a lifetime of experience, the nature of having faith in the difficulties of maintaining such faith in the modern world, this is a deeply personal journey made by the author and recounted in a conversational and often autobiographical style. Prohaska takes his readers along with him through a series of what he terms incredible coincidences
that lead him through explorations of different belief systems, ultimately culminating in the Christ-risen Christianity which he now holds dear to his heart.
Though the narration is highly conversational and the plot lines of the biographical content sometimes take deviations here and there, what author Jack Prohaska has created is a lifetime in a book and a philosophy in which many readers with a crisis of faith are sure to find comfort. Christians, as the author rightly states, may have darker questions that they find difficult to voice, so having narration as astute and emotionally honest as Prohaska’s really lends itself to the credibility of finding one’s faith despite personal doubts and fears. I particularly enjoyed the wry humor and self-deprecating style of the author, whose down to earth dialogue is direct and engaging for readers to follow. Overall, Chasing Jesus feels like a life story told by one old friend to another, and as such, it delivers a powerful emotional authenticity alongside its hopeful and faithful devotion to God.
To Jesus…our Friend, Brother, and God.
To my reader: Important…
Read before reading!
…Any similarity to a normal
book is purely coincidental.
I’d like you to think of this effort of mine as a conversation between just you and me…one way, true, but a conversation nonetheless, and conversations have no outlines. They just flow, so the underlying themes tend to do their own dances in and out of the stream-of-consciousness narrative. I will be giving you my thoughts and can at least imagine what your responses to them might be (hopefully, positive).
These essential interactive themes are the insidious and dangerous Shallow-ization of Society, Heart-Wisdom, Holy Sorrow, and Joy (or God-speak,
as I’ve termed it). The single negative theme is the first, and it has a deleterious effect on the other three, which are related to each other in eminently positive ways.
The positive tradeoff in not having a standard
presentation is, by definition, spontaneity—opportunities for changes of scenery along the way, little breaks in the action (if potentially entertaining and/or informative), a chance to insert humor or even pen a short poem (four in the book), give an interesting aside or quote consistent with
