Chapter 1
Did FBI agent Caitlin Chandler really have nine lives like her father had often jested? One of the bureau’s top agents, Caitlin is assigned several high priority cases. Facing the possibility of death and betrayal she once infiltrated the multibillionaire Albert Hanes’ oil refinery to prove that he was dumping toxic chemicals onto reservation land in Arizona.
Caitlin had a torrid love affair with Tribal Officer Jimmy Grey Wolf who also proved to be her guardian angel during each and every one of her riveting assignments.
In truth, Caitlin had done her best at not becoming involved with Jimmy Grey Wolf even as the attraction between them was like matches and gasoline. She had put him off time and again with no intention of giving in.
She had been on assignment on an isolated reservation in Arizona and nothing more. She left upon it’s conclusion and returned to Washington D.C. commitment free.
They had but one physical encounter the last night of her stay and it had been adamantly against her will. Unbeknownst to Caitlin she had conceived that Hot Summer Night and would give birth to Jimmy Grey Wolf’s child.
Jimmy Grey Wolf had a devastating handsomeness that could stop traffic and an inescapable magnetism. He wore long, raven hair falling just below his shoulders which he tied back when on duty. He stood a full six feet, was inherently muscular and lean, broad shoulders, narrow at the hips. He had high cheekbones, a bold nose, jewel-like eyes, golden bronze skin. A true stud among men.
He was normally a very confident, levelheaded young man in his early thirties, with an admirable sense of morality and was a courageous officer of the law, very rarely daunted by worst case scenarios.
Curtis Lone Eagle, Jimmy’s long time partner despised the power that Caitlin Chandler held over Jimmy. Jimmy was literally obsessed with her and she seemed to exploit that. She had made him fall out of love with a woman whom he had shared a lifetime with and whom he had planned on marrying. Instead Jimmy ends up marrying the long legged, blond Federal agent.
As far as Jimmy was concerned, their only issue was the FBI. It was nerve wracking to say the least seeing Caitlin in constant danger. With every job she was assigned, there was always the chance, the thought that haunted him day and night, would she make it back alive?
Jimmy was sure it was the thrill of the chase that Caitlin was addicted to. Her will, her courage, her lust to honor that badge made her to Jimmy, no less than spectacular.
When Jimmy had first laid eyes on her he was mesmerized. He couldn’t remember when he had seen a more gorgeous woman. If ever. He knew he had never seen a more beautiful shade of blond. It was pure white gold. Her body was sheer perfection. At 5’7", 110 she had killer dimensions of 38-22-36.
Escape with this new sequel to Cold as Ice, Hot Summer Night a dynamic, new contemporary romance. It is the continuation of Caitlin Chandler and Jimmy Grey Wolf’s romance, turbulent lifestyle and partnership.
Jimmy ends up joining the FBI to share Caitlin’s never ending need of adrenaline rush assignments. During New Year’s Eve celebrations in Washington D.C. she once successfully captured a notorious serial rapist.
On another mission, just before a multi-digit deal with one of the nation’s most major drug cartels she was suddenly exposed! Headlining the show in Miami’s hottest night spot, she never suspected to be betrayed by a DEA agent! Caitlin Chandler’s powerful will and strength let her survive a 7 story fall-the result of his betrayal.
This day, she and Jimmy are assigned yet another mission.
We’ve got a really sweet case.
Caitlin handed Jimmy his first cup of the morning coffee.
What would that be, Chandler?
Jimmy referred to her in a manner that he had when he first met her. His eyes were distracted per usual by her practically translucent night wear.
Caitlin scolded him teasingly. Are you going to listen to me?
All ears.
It’s right here in D.C. MGM Casino.
Sounds fun, I like it.
There’s been a series of hold ups. It’s a dirty cop with accomplices at the casino. Perps have been shadowing big winners, following them when they leave. One of them contacts the dirty cop with the approximate location of the vehicle with its description while its in transit. The cop pulls the vic over for a traffic stop then robs them.
Let me guess, you’re the big winner.
Jimmy surmised the Bureau would use Caitlin’s exceptional beauty to attract the felon as was so often the case.
You guessed right, cowboy.
Caitlin threw her arms around Jimmy’s neck and clasped her hands.
Sometimes I wish you weren’t so unbelievably beautiful.
Caitlin’s full lips teased his, hovering just over them as he savored her so very seductively clad nearness. She heard Mary and Little Jimmy approaching the kitchen so she drew her robe around her and tied it at the waist.
Caitlin had hired a nanny because she was away so often on assignment and she couldn’t stand the thought of sending him to a daycare. Jimmy appreciated the fact that Caitlin wanted the very best for his child more than she would ever know. He wouldn’t be surprised to find that she also wanted him to attend a private school someday.
Good morning,
Mary greeted the two cheerfully.
Morning, Mary,
Jimmy returned respectfully.
Mama, do you have to go away again?
Little Jimmy tugged at her sleeve, then threw both of his arms around her waist. He gazed up at her wide eyed. He was a gorgeous child who mirrored his father’s looks with shiny raven hair which Caitlin kept long and wide dark eyes.
Not for long, this time, slugger. We’ll both be just down the road.
Jimmy answered for Caitlin.
The toddler followed Jimmy into the front room where Jimmy grabbed a small basketball and tossed it at a miniature hoop, easily making a basket. Think fast!
He retrieved the ball then tossed it to Little Jimmy. Abruptly capturing the child’s attention, Little Jimmy caught the ball and tossed it at the hoop. It teetered on the rim before falling through. Score!
Jimmy called out just as Caitlin entered the room, making her softly laugh.
Mary’s got some oatmeal out at the table for you,
she told the child.
The toddler comically frowned making Jimmy chuckle.
Buddy, you’ve got to eat your oatmeal. It’ll make you strong.
Jimmy flexed his decidedly impressive bicep, letting the tiny boy feel it.
Whoa…
Little Jimmy rolled his eyes.
You want to look like that you go eat your oatmeal.
The boy instantly scampered off to the kitchen.
Caitlin smiled lovingly at the precious exchange. Once the two got to the bedroom, Caitlin filled Jimmy in on more of their mission.
You and Gabe will be in house. Sherry and I will be at the craps table. The dice will be rigged, allowing me to easily win. Mike and Jess will be out in the parking lot.
All the while, the two of them were dressing for the job. Caitlin slipped on a short, tight red dress. Jimmy immediately offered to zip her up. The moment his lean, warm fingers touched, the sparks flew. He simply couldn’t resist nuzzling her throat making her tingle between her thighs.
You are so bad…
she whispered naughtily.
And I know just how ‘bad’ you like it,
he breathed wickedly.
Jimmy had donned a black, pinstriped suit and he put a tonic in his long, black hair to give it a striking sheen. He looked so devastatingly slick, she felt like ripping his clothes off and getting down and dirty, real dirty.
The D.C. MGM Casino is a huge, glassy, impressive complex. It’s a resort on the Potomac River with retail, dining, entertainment and even a theater.
Once Sherri and Caitlin took their places at the craps table and started the ball rolling, there was indeed a well dressed Latino paying close attention to them, in particular, to Caitlin. Jimmy was hovering near, nursing a drink, as was Gabe, at a different game table.
Jimmy transmitted to Gabe about the possible perp and to Mike and Jess in the parking lot. He inconspicuously brushed past the Latino and placed a bug on the back of his suit coat. Mike and Jess were in a van set up to listen to any transmissions this listening device would make.
As per plan, Caitlin rolled the dice several times raking in piles of chips as did Sherri to ward off suspicion. They had drawn a few onlookers beside the Latino.
Jimmy and Gabe watched from a distance as Caitlin and Sherri cashed in their chips. The Latino was also watching as he drifted in and around various patrons milling about the huge casino floor.
Once again, Jimmy and Gabe transmitted to one another to Caitlin and Sherri and to Jess and Mike posted outside. As expected, when Caitlin made her way out to her Vet, the perp made contact with who the team suspected was the dirty cop. Jess and Mike listened to the conversation between the two in which the Latino described Caitlin and her vehicle.
Jimmy and Gabe got into their unmarked sedan and followed Caitlin and her pursuer. Sherri was in another unmarked vehicle and would see to the arrest of the Latino, the cop’s casino accomplice, with the aid of Jess and Mike right behind her.
Meanwhile, Caitlin made her way through D.C. streets, constantly checking her rearview mirror for flashing blue lights. In moments, she saw them as did Jimmy and Gabe not far behind. Caitlin felt her adrenaline pumping as she pulled over then reached into her purse for her 9mm.
As the cop made his way to her Vet, Gabe and Jimmy parked on the street a block away where they witnessed the scene unfold. They vacated their sedan then made their way closer to the Vet, staying crouched down and hidden behind various parked cars on the street. Caitlin watched the cop approach in the side view mirror and could see that he had not yet taken out his weapon giving her the element of surprise.
Hand over the money and I’ll let you go.
I don’t think so.
Caitlin trained her 9mm on the perp in a split second. FBI.
Jimmy breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the cop raise his hands, stunned. He knew as per usual, Caitlin had things under control. He and Gabe made their presence known as they walked up from behind. FBI.
Both agents showed their badges to the cop. Jimmy cuffed him and read him his rights.
As Gabe loaded the perp into their sedan, Jimmy went to Caitlin. She had climbed out of the Vet to stretch like a cat after downing the canary.
Nice job, Chandler. You make it look easy. Don’t say it…
Piece of cake,
was her damnably familiar reply.
He knew by heart her words before she had even spoken them. She smiled a veritably bewitching smile, making his pulse race. Seeming to know that, Caitlin quietly acknowledged their literally combustible chemistry and reluctantly dismissed him.
You better go,
she whispered softly.
Jimmy nodded. Later.
After Caitlin’s teams’ debriefing, her father advised them of another mission that would start this same night. Local pharmacies all over the D.C. metropolitan area were being broken into and depleted of all opiods and other highly desirable drugs to
