About this ebook

The experience I had with my grandmother’s peach tree is a memory that I am so proud to have, and I will never forget. Being out in the yard helping her was exciting and fun, it did not seem like work at all me. I would like to share a few of the stories about being at my grandmother house for the summer. This story is about me and my beautiful, soft-spoken grandmother, and some of the things she taught me. Through the eyes of an eight-year-old, I found my grandmother to be extremely knowledgeable and resourceful.
Grandmother Eunice taught all her grandchildren’s something special, somethings in which we did not realize until we were grown with families of our own.

I feel so rich having the knowledge that you passed down to me. I will never forget the softness of your voice, the glowing brightness of your eyes, so caring, so pure, so wise. Your courage and strength are embedded in my mind and I draw from that when life becomes unkind. The memories of you will go on, in this generation and each generation to come. You are forever loved.

    Prologue

The Peach Tree is a memoir about Nadine as an eight-year-old spending the summer with her grandmother, and how Nadine was so intrigued by her grandmother’s wisdom and life lessons. Nadine was amazed by the way her grandmother managed, organized, and uniquely built her home. She paid close attention to the way her grandmother prepared and cooked her meals.

Being skillful and creative, Nadine’s grandmother often handmade several items around the house, but the one thing that really made Nadine’s summer so exciting was the experience she had with the Peach Tree and the care and attention her grandmother put into that tree that caused it to bare the most beautiful, bountiful fruit.

I can smell the aroma of the potatoes browning to a crisp in the hot oil. I watched as the slices jumped around the pan, slowly cooking to perfection.
