DEDICATION
For my Grandchildren, Jordan, Dante, and Nova
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I AM ETERNALLY THANKFUL to my Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit for their help in writing this book. I could not have done this without you. A special thank you to my granddaughter, Jordan, for helping me create the characters for this book. Great job! I love your imagination and creativity. I look forward to collaborating on the next Halo Kids’ adventure. You, Dante, and Nova are the treasures in my heart.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
~Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
CHAPTER 1
I T WAS A big day in Heaven. Today was graduation day for the students at the Angel Academy. All angels attended school at the academy for there was much to learn before they were sent to earth on Heavenly assignm ents.
Hurry, Dante, we mustn’t be late,
chided Marion, his instructor, gently.
Just one more…
called ten-year-old Dante. The little angel had taken flight and was bouncing from one cloud to the next doing somersaults across the blue sky. He was a rambunctious little angel and just a bit mischievous.
Jordan flew up and grabbed him by the hand as he prepared to leap to the next cloud. Not now, angel boy,
said the Japanese angel in her no-nonsense tone of voice. Eleven years old, she was the oldest of Marion’s students and was like a big sister to her classmates, Dante and little Nova.
Okay,
said Dante a little sheepishly as they flew back down beside Marion and Nova.
Your halo’s crooked,
piped up six-year-old Nova. Her blond ringlets bobbed up and down as she skipped along the gold cobblestone street, holding Marion’s hand.
Here, let me fix it for you,
said Jordan, straightening Dante’s halo. There, that’s better,
she said, smiling, as she smoothed his copper-red hair.
Thanks,
said Dante, smiling up at her.
At last, the angels reached the auditorium where the graduation ceremony would take place. Have you ever seen a drop of rain hanging from a tree branch after a shower? That is what the auditorium looked like. Made of crystal, it had two gold doors and sparkled in the light. Lovely flowerbeds, planted by God, were placed around the Heavenly building. Here and there, little benches were placed on the lush, green lawn beneath large oak trees. To the left of the auditorium was a small, blue stream. Here and there, little white bridges were placed over the stream to walk across. Tame birds, animals, and creatures of every sort roamed freely here. It was truly Paradise.
A tall, blond angel smiled at them as they walked up the crystal steps of the auditorium. Welcome,
he said, holding one of the doors open for them. Another angel inside greeted them, handing each of them gold programs.
Thank you,
they said, smiling.
Marion led them down the right aisle, on the first level of the auditorium. Above them were the second and third balconies. They took their seats in blue, velvet chairs facing the stage. Excited, the Halo Kids saw a gold table on the stage with neatly placed rows of white diplomas. They were rolled up like scrolls and tied with red ribbons.
Oh, I’m so excited,
gushed little Nova, taking her seat next to Marion.
Me, too,
said Dante, his blue eyes dancing as he looked around him.
The auditorium was filling up quickly as angels took their seats. They were excited for the new graduates. As they waited for the ceremony to begin, they chatted with other angels. Many of them were old friends who had worked together on past assignments.
I am very proud of all of you,
said Marion, smiling at them. This was a big day for her students, and she was very excited for them. Now that they were graduating, they could go on Heavenly assignments. Of course, since this was new to them, they would still need her help, but she had faith they would do well.
Marion had been an instructor at the academy for centuries, but she didn’t look a day over thirty. She was tall, slender, and graceful, like a ballet dancer. Her olive complexion was smooth and free of any wrinkles. Her large brown eyes were very expressive, with thick, feathery, black lashes. Cut in layers, her shoulder-length caramel-colored hair had gold highlights. Marion rarely frowned. Her patient, gentle nature made her a favorite with all the students.
Jordan smiled and waved to one of her friends in the center aisle. Nova gently tugged on one of Jordan’s black braids. Jordan turned and little Nova motioned for her to come closer. Smiling, Jordan leaned down to the little angel. Cupping her hand over Jordan’s ear, Nova whispered, You look pretty.
Jordan smiled and whispered back in the little angel’s ear, So do you.
Nova put her little hand over her mouth and giggled, blushing.
Look! There’s Gabriel and Michael,
whispered Dante, excitedly, as two very big angels walked down the aisle toward them. Seeing the Halo Kids watching them, they smiled. Gabriel winked at Dante as they took their seats a
