While trying to win it she realizes that people never stop making friends until the day they die, and that sometimes those friends might even be closer to one than their own family.

Prologue

The time was passing by, until it was almost midnight. Krea raced through the halls of the Owenton mansion lost in her thoughts, she listed every single reason that could make her family late, everything but the one obvious scary possibility of them being hurt in the middle of this storm.

She had warned them from approaching the moon forest in this type of weather, alone with no guards she had even asked to go with them but her father disapproved. He knew of the danger he had put his children at, but still there was something, perhaps he didn’t want her to know about what was tugging at him since that letter arrived.

The sound of the maids shouting hit her, and she realized her family was back. She beheld as the gates were opened, but then she noticed that her younger brother was strapped to his horse and when she focused, she saw the blood that covered his auburn hair, so she ran to his horse as fast as she could.

Father, what happened she said to her father who was busy yelling at the servant’s.

He got attacked by the ‘beasts’ of that damned forest said her father while moving from the servant’s way.

’beasts’? I don’t think any of them would be out at this weather, and neither should you she satiated coldly trying to get him to look her in the eyes, but he didn’t.

will for some reason I found him in a cave, anyways put him in his room and call the doctor first thing tomorrow I want someone to stay by him tonight in case he has a fever he said to the servants while they took Alexander away, then left for his own rooms, leaving Krea staring at her twin brother Kristopher.

She did notice the way he looked at the blood his eyes where full of hunger. A sadist, yes that was what he had become, his gray eyes glimmered as he looked away.

You weren’t brave enough to protect him Kristopher, or were you the one that did this to him in the first place. You’re such a sadist he rolled his eyes at her.

I was just testing a theory he answered with a cold voice that was similar to here’s but less feminine, and walked toward his rooms in silence.

At her room, on her bed all what Krea could think of is Alexander, and the contest that they have to participate in. the contest was to decide new rulers for the dark and light kingdom. Since the kingdoms were always at war the kings and queens would die young leaving the kingdom with no heir, and ciaos would settle over the land. So, every time a ruler dies the prince or princess after him would choose a new heir to the kingdom by crowning the winners of the contest.

There was only one week to go, and this year both she and her siblings were ordered to participate. Her father said that her brother’s injury wasn’t critical and that he would be able to return to training after few days, but she didn’t believe that.

She picked the letter from her side the paper that held her life, the paper that changed everything, and when she read it like every time, she felt a chill running down her spine and her heart wouldn’t stop pounding so hard.
