    Substitute Teachers - Mike Kobliska

    Chapter 1

Samuel’s alarm clock ring almost shocked him out of bed. He had apparently fallen asleep only an hour or so ago. It was another stressful night of tossing and turning. Samuel’s thoughts flashed back to the day before and what had happened at school.

Get up, Samuel! yelled his Mom. Breakfast is ready.

Samuel quickly rolled out of bed and took a shower. He knew when Mom yelled he had no choice but to get going. Samuel gulped down a glass of orange juice and ate a piece of toast. He rushed out the door to catch the bus.

Remember, Gramma will pick you up after school and take you to karate lessons.

    Ya, ya, Mom. I remember.

Samuel liked going to karate lessons because of the exercise and he could vent his frustrations there. Why couldn’t he just go to karate today and skip school? Wishful thinking. Would things go better at school today? He hoped so as he trudged along to the bus pick up.

    Chapter 2

Things had been going so well at school for the first month. Samuel had his usual circle of friends that he had had for years. He played baseball and basketball with his crew as he called them, since early elementary.

Billy, Jackson, and Robert were considered good friends until just recently, when Samuel did not know what to think. Things had changed and changed dramatically! The boys were leaving him out of the group now and he knew why. Ever since Bradley had moved in the whole dynamics of the group had changed. Now at breaks Samuel was being excluded from the basketball games. Suddenly he was being left out and this was making school and life almost unbearable.

The bus roared up to school and the squeak of the brakes brought Samuel to attention. Time for another day of torture. Today would have to be better.

    Samuel would soon find out.

    Chapter 3

Samuel wanted to talk to the crew about what had happened yesterday.
