    Gleams of Glory - Lois Lewis

    Gleams of Glory

    Glory -

    magnificence or

    great beauty:

    the mirrored image of a mountain on a pristine lake,

    a sunset so spectacular, you get misty-eyed,

    the joy of simple things;

    the kindness and humility of a gentle soul,

    the courage of the brave-hearted,

    the wisdom of the aged.

    In this fast-paced world we live in,

    if we walk slowly

    and pay attention to the Creation,

    looking closely -

    as through a jeweler’s loupe,

    songbirds who are singing,

    the tops of the trees are swaying in the breeze.

    Flowers are blooming bright colors;

    animals are hopping, running,

    climbing. scampering.

    An owl with its terrifying talons

    hooked on an oak limb

    is screeching,

    "Be alive,

    until you are not!"

    Just then I heard,

    or thought I heard,

    or anyway

    imagined I heard,

    the shiny black raven flying

    overhead cry out,

    "use the fine china!

    Don’t save it

    for a special occasion -

    life is

    the special occasion!"

    Sandpiper

    Last year I spent a few days and nights

    alone at the beach, and afterward travelled
