About this ebook

At night, Grandfather works in his woodshop, carving toys as his grandchildren sleep. During the day, he weaves them a fantastic tale of love, treachery, and magic in the earliest of Christmas seasons from the days of kings, queens, and castles.

In the North Pole, there is peace and tranquility for many years. When the king and queen begin acting strange, the princess finds escape in the forest, where she meets a wood-carvers apprentice. As their romance blossoms, so do their friendships with the children, animals, and elves.

When a dastardly governor imprisons the royal family and bans all Christmas festivities, its up to the wood-carvers apprentice, along with the help of his magical forest friends, to rescue the royal family. Once he saves them, he uses the magic given to him by the elves to deliver gifts to all the boys and girls, bringing back Christmas for all generations.

    Chapter 1

Grandfather, will you tell us a story? Charlotte asked, her blue eyes sparkling with anticipation. Her little brother Charles excitedly held his breath as they waited expectantly for Grandfather’s answer. Kristopher looked down at both of his grandchildren and pretended to be thinking.

Well, I don’t think I know of any stories worth telling, Moppet. He finally replied and ruffled her strawberry blond curls. This was a game they always played.

You do so, Grandfather! she insisted with a giggle and tugged gently at his long white beard.

You are the best storyteller in the whole world! his grandson told him. Everyone says so! Charles declared emphatically.

Kristopher again looked down at both of the children and rubbed his beard for a little while as he thought. Well, I might be able to come up with something, he finally said with a robust chuckle. Give me a few moments to finish up and gather my thoughts. He patted his grandson on the head, turned him around to face the door, and gently nudged him to leave the room.

Charlotte had already gone back into the house to put the teapot on the stove as her younger brother rushed in behind her. This was another part of the game they played. As Charlotte prepared tea and cookies, Charles busied himself gathering Grandfather’s pipe which he placed on the end table next to his favorite chair; and his slippers, which he placed on the floor.

While the children were busy getting ready for story time, Kristopher was quickly and meticulously putting his tools away. It was a
