    DEDICATED TO JESSIE WEATHERBY

I chose to dedicate this to a very dear friend of mine. As a young man, he helped me come out of my shell. There are people who know and love me but without God placing you in my life, that doesn't happen. Now, that you're gone, there's not a day that I don't think about you, our conversations and how excited that you would be about me following my dream. There's no doubt that Heaven is a little brighter now that you reside there. Thank you for everything. You are my friend and brother still. Love you.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First and foremost, I give all thanks to God. Anything is possible when you serve a God who is capable of doing the impossible.

Thanks to my mom and dad (Alice and Ben Kimbrough). Thank you for bringing me into the world and instilling in me the respect for others by never letting me forget that you can take me out as well.

To my daughter (Deshondra A. Smith), you are a handful but you will ALWAYS be my heart.

I’m thankful for all of my family and you are too many to name but there’s one that I must single out. My uncle Johnny ‘JR’ Riley. You have believed in me even when I didn’t.

To my Pastor, Dr Reverend Cleotis Woods for your constant prayers.

My true friends: Willie Nelson, Francis Fleming, Jamond Bentley, Maureace Harper and Marcus Carter.

Frankie B. Roby (The Cutting Edge) and Quinton Ellis (Legacy) for always keeping me in the game.

To my teacher, Shelia Patrick, who’s encouraged me since the days of Miami Vice #239, #115 and Kosciusko McDonald’s.

The Angels looking down on me: Hilda York (grandmother), Carrie Kimbrough (grandmother), Hosea Kimbrough (grandfather), Pearline Rimmer (aunt), Henry Kimbrough (great uncle), James Rimmer (uncle).

My musical motivators: Little Mix, Whitney Houston, The Manhattans and Ashford and Simpson.

Meagan and the rest of the team at Xlibris. Along with Cyrus Webb at Conversations.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone. Please charge it to my head and not my heart.

    CHAPTER ONE

I T’S A WARM January night in Florida. Nick Parsons and Valerie Newton are sitting at the dinner table of her two bedroom house. The song ‘Let’s just kiss and say goodbye’ is playing on the audio player. The table is set with a dinner that Nick has prepared for Valerie. Nick has prepared steak with a baked potatoes and red wine to drink. Nick is a tall, good looking man. He is clean cut and shaven with an all even haircut. He is dressed in a brown suit with a necktie. Valerie is short with long hair. She is an average size woman. Valerie is pretty but not head turning in her looks. Nick and Valerie have just decided to end their relationship but are meeting up for a last night together. As Nick cuts and eats his steak, he begins to tell Valerie how he feels. Baby, if I can still call you that (Nick cuts and eats a piece of steak). When I look around the apartment I see all the memories that we’ve shared together. As you can see, that I have prepared dinner by candlelight for you. I have rose petals on the bed. I even have strawberry bubble bath in the bathtub for us to enjoy. (Nick takes a drink of wine) And I know that this may seem like a lot to you but I want you to know that you’re worth a million things more to me than just that. That’s why I hate that our relationship has come to the point where we must end things. (Nick sighs) Well, I guess I will go pack unless you have something that you want to add. Nick cuts and eats another piece of steak and when he gets no response from Valerie, he lifts his head up to see why. As Nick looks across the table, he sees Valerie just sitting with her neck having already been cut by Nick. Her blood still dripping onto her plate from her lifeless body. It’s clear to see that the knife that Nick used to cut her throat is the same that he now uses to cut his steak. Nick takes a sip of wine and gets out of his chair. He walks by Valerie’s lifeless body but then stops and turns to her. What was that Valerie? You say that you want us to have one last night together? Well, you know that I could never tell you no. The next morning, Nick is awakened to a loud alarm clock. He rolls over to turn the alarm clock off. Nick gets out of the bed and pulls the curtain open. As the bright morning sun peers through the window, Nick looks back at the bed to see Valerie’s lifeless body lying on her left side where Nick cuddled with the body all through the night. Nick goes to the closet to find clothes to change into. Nick takes out a grey suit with a brown neck tie. Nick goes over to Valerie’s IPod to look for some music to listen to as he showers. Nick starts strolling through her music. Crap (goes to the next song) crap (goes to the next song) ah, this will do just fine. Pushes play with an evil grin. The song ‘Treat her like a lady’ begins to play. Nick showers, gets dressed but before he leaves, he walks over to Valerie’s body. Sorry, baby, I’ve got to leave you, Nick sighs. I was hoping number 6 would do the trick. I guess it’s on to lucky number 7 says Nick to Valerie’s motionless body. Nick walks outside to feel the air and warmth of the Florida sun. Nick goes to the airport. As Nick arrives, he gets a call on his cell phone. Hello. You’ve found another Valerie? That’s great. What’s your location? Ok, I’m at the airport now so I can be there in a few hours. Great, just email me the details along with some pictures so I can get acquainted with my wife to be. No, you stay there just in case I need you. I’ll talk to you later. Nick hangs up and walks to the counter. Yes, can I help you with something? asks the airline officer with a smile. Yes, you can, I need…Oh my, you have a pretty smile. Says Nick. Thanks, responds the airline officer. It took me about to leave but I finally find someone who outshines this Florida sun, says Nick as he flirts with the airline officer.
