About this ebook

Australias original inhabitants are acknowledged as the oldest continuous living civilization known in the world, dating back some forty thousand years. Living in isolation of the rest of the world on their island continent, they evolved a unique culture of harmonious existence based on totally respected, strictly acknowledged territorial boundaries and mutually accepted laws, which were self-regulating. There was no need for governments, armies, police, or jails; and yet they lived a relatively peaceful existence.

Anthropological evidence reveals the arrival of international migrants some four thousand years ago. This story explores the distinct possibility that this connection could have led to the introduction of advanced technology that, if adopted and exploited by the locals, would have resulted in a totally different Australia back in 1770 when Captain Cook arrived, intent on claiming this land for his king and country.

Maitland sends Cecil along with The Enforcer and Old Faithful down onto the beach to greet the landing party and inform the good captain and his mates that they are not welcome and that perhaps it would be in their best interests to leave. But Cookys not having a bar of it, and, well, rather than spoil a good story . . . nuff said.

    A Top Bloke

    Ernie’s a Top Bloke

Our narrator, whom we shall now call Ernie, for want of knowledge better, lying back under a shady tree, in his hammock, sipping on a coldie, is suddenly, rudely jolted from his slumber, an urgent need to share his dreaming.

    Ernie:

"I don’t need to tell you that this great country of ours and everything in it, including us, came into being in ‘The Dream Time’ when powerful spirit beings roamed the land and created everything, even the stars of the heavens above; we’ve got a story about how every single thing came into being. And the creatures and man and the environment all lived in perfect harmony until one fateful day in 1770 when all that blissful existence would disintegrate, decay, and eventually be swallowed up by ‘Progress?’

But there’s some things you don’t know about this country; things that happened which…Well, let’s just sit back and take a look at how, but ‘for the grace of God?’ things might have turned out."

    The First Boat People

Two near naked, traditional, bearded, lean and athletic Aboriginal men, standing on a cliff face overlooking the ocean; standing like stalks with right foot resting on left knee, spears in hand helping maintain the balance. A boat approaches the shore.

    What the fuck?

    Boatpeople

    What about border security?

No such thing, mate, and we shouldn’t have to worry about that sort of thing for about another four thousand years at least.

Well, looks like it’s up to us then mate. Better get down there, see who these pricks are, and piss ‘em off back where they came from.

    Some Historical Facts

    Ernie:

Fact… Scientific studies reveal that Indian genes were introduced into the Aboriginal race about 4000 years ago; the Dingo arrived in Australia about the same time and the Thylacine or Tassie Tiger as we all know him, soon after began to disappear, until finally becoming extinct on mainland Australia. So now begins Ernie’s dreamin’ of what might have been.

    Raj and Sita

The two Aboriginal men stand on the shore as the boat is beached. A turbaned, long white robed Indian man hops out and supports a stunning Indian woman, absolutely dripping in jewelled adornments, to alight the craft.

A pair of dogs jump out to join them, dogs looking very suspiciously like dingos. A pair of Tassie Tigers appear on the sand dune above. The dingos look up, and mutter a doggie sound. A speech bubble appears above their collective heads which reads,

    Bush tucker

The Tassie Tigers look down with similar speech bubble which reads,

    Oh Shit!

The Indian man puffs out his chest and confidently announces, We have come in search of the promised land, his bejewelled partner smiles approvingly.

    I recon they’re tourists.

    Then they must be lost

The Indian man, whom we shall now call Raj, for want of knowledge better, and his wife whom we shall now call Sita, just because Raj and Sita go so well together, surveyed the terrain beyond the beach, and judging by Raj’s beaming face, the sight of those rusty brown hills rather excited him. Those hills are rich in iron, he excitedly announces, Do you mine them?

Maybe he’s a rock collector one suggested. But then a giant thought bubble appeared above Raj’s head, about the size of a movie screen. Raj in his enlightened wisdom saw smoke stacks…giant steel smelter smoke stacks, and a sign which once read,

‘NEWCASTLE STEEL MILLS’, but with a nasty big black line right through it, and now in all its blazon glory above it a shiny new name, ‘NEWCALCUTTA STEEL MILLS’.

    And what about her?

And as if right on cue, she pointed to one of her many chunks of gold. Fortuitously, a Bush Turkey
