- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A well-deserved 5 star rating for a book that i can easily envision becoming a movie. I actually checked twice to make sure that what i was reading was based on historical fact! 1930's in TX and Joe Black goes from being a wealthy bootlegger during prohibition to a dance hall owner out in the boonies. Handsome with an easy smile when he needs one he can just as quickly break a bottle and cut your throat. In other words.... a sick killer. Yet women did whatever it took to stay on his 'good' side? Legend of Gatorman will give you the shivers. Gatorman you ask? Oh yeah. His pets that he kept hungry and in a pit out back were alligators. For real. The author did his research and good god it shows.....your heart will break as you cringe and just pray that maybe what you KNOW is coming .....won't.
