Mary Helen Hatfield Seals
I have a story that needs to be told about my family the Hatfields. I am seventy-nine years old. I am the only daughter of Sam Hatfield. I want the world to know the truth of how my family survived the feud. Being a Hatfield and living through it to tell the truth and living to tell our story, God has blessed me and my family. My four brothers, Walter Hatfield, David Martin Hatfield, Ed Hatfield, and Denver Ray Hatfield have went on to be with Jesus. I am writing this out of love to show how wonderful and loving my family was. I am the only Hatfield in my family still alive. I want to finish this before my time on earth is over. Thank you, Jesus, for a wonderful life and for letting me be the daughter of Sam Hatfield and growing up as a Hatfield. I am blessed.

Chapter 1
ESCAPING THE FEUD
During the Feud with the Hatfield and McCoy's just about any one with the name of Hatfield had to escape from their homes to hide and escape from their homes to hide out of fear of being shot. The things they had to do was worse than the way the cave man of prehistoric time survived.
My father Sam Hatfield told us stories when my brother and I were growing up. He said; It was sad what the descendant's of Devil Anse Hatfield nephew's had to do to hide from the McCoy's.
The McCoy’s had petitioned the Governor to place warrants and the State law was also allowing this atrocity to happen.
Any one who could walk and talk was after the Hatfield's young and old it did not matter the use of force and the number of Bounty Hunter caused mass hysteria among innocent people to run for it would come.

Virtually it was each man for him self. The fear of being shot and executed forced many to resort to streams in canoes as, a home made raft put together quick with short notice.
If you were lucky and had carried with you tools and other things for survival in the wild. Where to hide and be safe was a question no one could answer. You never knew where the McCoy's and their bounty hunters were till it was too late. It was hard to travel with small children who were hungry and tired. If you had kindred living far away and they would take you in ''Thank
