Chapter 1
Bob’s computer is a Dell notebook. We can image what he sees on monitor are those happenings in an factitious world: a sovereign state or a city-state. There is a king, many officials, residents, mountains, rivers, buildings, even ubiquitous bushes. This world is composed of the installed softwares, like Daea, and the webpages Bob once visited. We call this factitious world as Delta State.
The most striking building in Delta State is the king’s Palace, located at the north of the state. The Palace is a square applanation building, above which a slender pyramidal tower stacks, thrusting straightly into the sky, and the Central Control Chamber located at the peak. There is a flag on each side of the building, the flag is quartered in red, green, blue, and yellow respectively. There’re no doors on the building, instead there’re 64 windows connected with 64 parallel tile arrays on the ground in each side of the building. Every array is composed of 32 luminous tiles of size one foot time half foot, in which the red tiles were marked as 1 and yellow tiles as 0, so the tile array contains series…10101… along a straight line. The windows on the tower are getting smaller and smaller till indiscernible with your upgoing sight to the peak.
The Police Department locates at the west of the Palace and the Linked Area lies in the further west, where there’re many abroad stations of the states in the internet world, like Yagoo, Facetube, Crazysports, and Gunfans states. In the westernmost of the state, there is a mountain, called Cloud Mountain. There are big woods in the south of the Palace. A spacious square called Bill Square, lies in the further south.
The whole state was divided into west side and east side by Bios Avenue, which goes from north to south and extended to South Gate, through which all the people or merchandises will pass. A major river adjoined Bios Avenue called Inout River, runs from north to south. The commands from mouse are delivered into the state at the southern-east corner, and afterwards sent to the Palace by specific person. Thus the time in Delta State is not synchronous with the time Bob experienced.
Unlike the visited webpage, the installed game Daea can be regarded as a troupe in Delta State with a two storey building at the west of the Police Department. Whenever Bob was playing Daea, it’s just the performance of Daea troupe according to the game rule.
There are four characters in Daea: Yosem, Jey, Eso, and Ana, the director is Wein and the staff is Mits and Leay. Eso was about early twenties, a sprat and blond thin boy with curl brown hair. Yosem was over thirties, a medium height, wide forehead and robust man. Jey was at his middle forties with tall and fierce lineament. Ana is a black long hair girl with moon face and big eyes.
Eso really hated his role in Daea but had to brace himself to play. Today when Yosem and Jey were fighting, well dressed Mits and squabby Leay appeared in the street with a big banner in their hands, Wait, Daea has new version. Headquarter required us to upgrade. Let’s ask Bob.
Mits shouted.
Yosem and Jey stopped their fighting wheezingly, It’s wonderful to upgrade, but how?
asked Yosem.
Change this western townlet to New York City.
said Leay.
Awesome!
excited Yosem.
Well, actually I love this quiet little town.
Jey said languidly.
Yosem sneered but didn’t say anything.
Mits and Leay carried a banner to the street. What written on the banner was the pop-up Bob read in his computer Daea version 3.0 is ready to download, Will you upgrade? Yes or No?
All the people were waiting for Bob’s decision quietly.
After a while the king’s secretary, the slim and dressily Marie came towards Daea, but she stopped halfway, only waved her hands and turned back to the Palace .
All people sighed with disappointments. Oh, we still have to play in the hell street!
Yosem grumbled, he slowly took his pistol, rubbing his shoulder and sluggishly walked to the street, where Jey had been there with twin black pistols in his hands. Eso patted his clothes and drowsily continued his play.
The director Wein was about fifties years old with well trimmed hair and neat habilitation. He looked at Yosem and Jey for a while and said to Mits and Leay, Please ask Bob again if he wants to change background to New York City.
Mits and Leay were just about to leave, Come to Bob’s notice, please.
he enjoined.
Mits and Leay nodded understandingly and walked to the street again with a banner What’s new?
to kindle Bob’s interest.
In a moment, Marie appeared again with a straight face and tight lips. All the people stared at her in the face quietly, estimating what she might say.
Bob wants to know how to upgrade.
she said at her leisure.
There appeared a burst of applaud. Leay quickly picked another banner on the ground, shook off the dust and raised it with Mits.
Marie appeared again quickly. As usual she threw a chest and refused to be distracted, but uncommonly she had a ghost of a smile, Bob has agreed, please be prepared for upgrade.
she said in deliberation.
Excited Wein had a high five with Yosem Finally!
Mits also hugged Leay in excitement.
Don’t be absorbed in excitement only, put warning sign please.
Wein reminded Leay to stick a sign Please wait…
on the ground.
Jey went over slowly with grinning. Eso walked tardily in heavy steps with severe pain in his shoulder. He raised his arm, cast a side look at his numb shoulder that was hit by Yosem because of his slow dodge. He didn’t care the upgrade because no matter how the background changed, his role in Daea was invariable: beaten or insulted by others, like a fool.
The actress Ana just arrived from the mansion with sweat smile, Where am I going to stay if the background changes to New York City? Actually I love this small town so much.
Of course you do, but how do you know the arduousness we’ve suffered on this stinker street.
Yosem sneered languorously.
Our new background property will be delivered to Delta State later tomorrow afternoon. I need a volunteer to show permit to the security at South Gate. Anybody can help?
Wein said and ran his eyes over all the people but nobody responded him. They turned a deaf ear to his appeal and kept their talking or laughing. It’ll have to bother Eso for this errand.
Wein said to Eso who looked unhappy with a dull look in his eyes.
Let’s take a break and come back ten o’clock tomorrow to discuss the upgrade.
Wein said to all the people, then turned to Eso, I will take permit card for you.
Eso looked at others chatting enviously.
We are exhausted today. Let’s have a bit wine.
suggested Yosem.
Wow, the dry law is still valid for you, right?
Jey said to Yosem.
The hell dry law prohibits me from wine for three months.
Yosem scolded fiercely. All the people chuckled.
But at least I am legal to see the Fire Cat show tomorrow night, aren’t I?
Yosem consoled himself.
All people laughed except Ana, Is Mason going to the show?
she asked softly.
Absolutely, if he is absence, nobody will see Fire Cat.
Yosem cast a side look to her.
Ana was unable to hide her excitement, Let’s stop by at Ironcalf restaurant before we see Fire Cat.
said she.
Probably I’ll miss it…Have fun guys.
Jey said in humming and hawing.
Jey is a model husband but how many funs you have missed, my friend.
Yosem sneered.
Wein came back with a white card in his hand and gave it to Eso, Our vehicle is to arrive, I guess, at tomorrow evening. You may as well leave tomorrow afternoon.
said Wein.
Eso received the permit card in low spirits and didn’t say anything.
Chapter 2
Delta State is completely circumvallated except at the west side, where the cliff of Mt. Cloud played the natural boundary. The only entrance of the state is at south, called South Gate, above which there stands a huge shield divided into four parts, each quadrant is colored as red, green, blue, and yellow. Outside the Delta State but not far from the circumvallation, a huge white tower rises loftily, lifting a big terrace, like mushroom, inside the white tower there are two elevators transports vertically. A helix driveway twined round the tower from the bottom up to the terrace as an auxiliary conveyance way for those oversize or overweight vehicles.
Delta State communicated with internet world through a kind of craft flying between RouterApron and the terrace of Delta State because an unfathomable moat environed the state. Actually there is no water in the moat, instead it was full of dark smoke, it can swallow everything in the internet world but only craft can fly over, we call this abyss moat as DarkVacuum. RouterApron located outside the moat, where the vehicles coming from NetStation nearby will transform to crafts and flew to terrace of Delta State. The NetStation is a huge building, connected with enumerable ExitTracks from internet TravelWay. A vehicle either go directly along internet without stop, or exit through ExitTracks to arrive at the NetStation and drive to the RouterApron.
Crafts are full of the sky, like stars in the heaven, varied in shape, size, and color but all have propellers mounted inside big rings. Those crafts that are flying at low altitude will rush away, and those in the distance are almost motionless. Some crafts landed on the terrace and some took off. When landed, the craft will fold its propellers as wheels, so craft transforms to a vehicle, like trailer or van, but varies in wheel size and wheel number. The vehicle will go down the terrace through elevator, and then drives to the security check point to enter Delta State. However, only very few vehicles can pass the check point, most of them are refused to enter, so they may either fly away or stay around the South Gate in the limited area between city wall and moat. Usually there are many vehicles gathered nearby the gate.
Eso often visited South Gate but still shocked by the spectacular scene today. At that moment there came a plain craft with a sign Yagoo.com
and a logo of magnifier. It flew to terrace and slowly landed, transformed to a four wheels cartage, through elevator it joined the line to check point. Eso caught a glimpse of the long waiting line but didn’t see Daea’s vehicle.
Many people stood in flocks around the gate in hubbub. A middle-aged lady with business suit was enraptured in spiel, Oh…so if you purchase this plan, your mortgage and retirement are all protected, even student loan…
An old man with a walking stick sighed deeply, Your cost me too much to lock my rate …look that like Ghostbank, much generous.
he staggered away with murmuring. The middle-aged lady threw a fierce look at him and then turned to other listeners round her to continue her persuasion.
There came a gentleman over fifties with emaciated face and good shave. His sparse hair was trimmed elaborately and his thin lips displayed fortitude. He wore neat suit and black frame glass but surprisingly carried a bulged student backpack. He walked to the check point and looked in the gate thoughtfully. A huge vehicle with sign of Recycling.org passed by with engine’s harsh roar and rancidity that pushed people showering away. The gentlemen shook his head gently and turn his head to the entrance unconsciously.
Eso couldn’t help coughing even the big vehicle had vroomed away. The gentleman came over quickly, How are you doing? I have medication for cough,
he asked with concern.
Thanks, I am fine.
Eso shook his hand.
Are you living here?
asked the man.
Yes, and you?
I am a passerby. My manufacture company calls me computer doctor, or briefly Dr. C.
said the gentleman.
So you must be a computer expert?
Eso asked admiringly.
Yes, I can fix any problems in computer.
Dr. C said proudly.
Can you change games? I mean the rule in a game.
Eso hastened to ask.
Of course.
Dr. C readily promised.
Could you do me a favor to change Daea?
Eso exulted.
Daea?
obviously Dr. C never heard of it.
I am a supporting actor in a game called Daea. My name is Eso. My role is being beaten by heroes to amuse audience. I hate this role. Can you revise this game?
Eso said in a fretful voice.
I see, I am sorry about you,
Dr. C said, No problem, I will certainly help you. I’m going to prompt you as a hero, getting rid of any humiliations.
Dr. C said with smile.
‘It’s wonderful!" excited Eso.
But…how can I go into your state? You know the security guard won’t allow me to enter without permission.
Dr. C said in desperation.
Let me explain to them, you are invited to upgrade Daea. Maybe they let you in.
Eso stared at the gate.
You may try, but it’s tough.
Dr. C said.
Eso emboldened himself to the checkpoint, Excuse me. I am Eso, from Daea game.
Eso said politely.
The security officer is a short and chubby man called Jack on his name tag, who had narrow eyes and spotlessly white teeth. He looked at Eso with amiable smile, Yes, I know you are a star.
said Jack.
Eso felt complacent and guessed that things might be fine, This is Dr. C, expert for Daea upgrade.
he introduced.
Jack kept smiling and held out his hairy hand, Please show me invitation letter.
he asked with smile.
Dr. C shook his head embarrassedly.
"I’m
