The Sparrow’S Nest - Diane DuBois

    Introduction

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He’s watching me …

How inconsequential we all perceive the sparrow—one of God’s smallest birds—to be.

And yet, as Jesus taught, it never escapes God’s plan or purpose. It, too, can securely know it has His divine protection.

It was with that prompting, that the weekly column of The Sparrow’s Nest was born.

This book includes select topics based upon that work.

It will surely bring a measure of peace and reassurance to all who read it.

Each devotional topic is complete, with accompanying prayer and appropriate scripture upon which to mediate.

My heartfelt prayer is that, like countless others before you, you be blessed by this select collection of The Sparrow’s Nest.

    If—Satisfied!

If the sun can be counted on to rise every morning and to set every night,

And the seasons promised to come as well as to go,

If the dryness always to end and the rain always to fall,

    There must be order.

If work is what we all do, and rest is what we all strive for,

And something inside you yearns for more, but more can never satisfy,

    There must be a plan!

If the patterns of butterflies and the colors of the rainbow make you marvel,

And the unfolding petals of a flower or the lacings of snow on mountaintops make you smile,

    There must be a God!

    Father,

I’m so glad I’ve found You.

For You, almighty God, are the Creator.

You are Alpha and Omega! The beginning and the end!

The sweet God of heaven. The keeper and lover of my soul.

    Amen.

    Psalm 19:14

    Ordinary Days

Just sitting comfortably in my favorite chair, neither in a hurry nor without things to do,

It’s just an ordinary day. What a blessing!

As I sip my morning coffee, my mind starts to wander.

Suddenly reminders appear out of nowhere of things I could be doing: Places I should be going, and people I need to meet with.

    But wait, not today!

Today, I choose to live an ordinary day. Plans will have to wait. Priorities will need to be redefined. Tomorrow, well, there’s always a tomorrow.

But today, I think I’ll take a walk.

I’ll stop long enough to appreciate the moment. I’ll take in the sights and sounds of God’s green earth: the winds overhead and the flowers at my feet.

If by chance I meet someone, perhaps I’ll stay and talk a while.

A lot can be said for ordinary days. Perhaps it’s in their being so, that they aspire to be anything at all, but
