About this ebook

This beautiful world of ours was created by God for His divine purpose and is filled with such great beauty and uniqueness. Man, Gods masterpiece, has such a wonderful ability and the potential to capitalize on his full purpose. Without purpose, life is empty and meaningless. I have come to the understanding that purpose is like the key to life itself. Therefore, it is imperative that everyone discovers their purpose in life as they embark on such a long and fulfilling journey. The world that we live in at times, can often seem like it is saturated with people who feel a sense of emptiness and lack of sense of purpose. They are out of touch with morals and self worth. Disappointment, stress, depression, hopelessness and fear have shattered many hopes for living life as destiny intended.

    FOREWORD

I  HAD THE unique privilege of reading and critiquing this book, Discovering One’s Purpose . I find the writing to be quite informative, thought-provoking, and especially scripturally based. If you are frustrated, tired, and find yourself losing out on finding God’s purpose for your life, or if you have never pursued this avenue, this is a must-read.

The author touches on some sensitive areas with his own personal experience with which, I dare say, most of us can associate ourselves. His writing also shows how the hand of God pursued him until his purpose was established. This is evidence of the important knowledge he shares in this book.

Dear reader, I pray that the same anointing that inspired Rev. James Gordon to write Discovering One’s Purpose will be upon you as you read, and may a significant difference be made in your life by this book.

    —Sr. Millicent Latty.

    PREFACE

T HIS BOOK IS intended primarily for those who are searching for understanding of circumstances that have occurred from time to time within their lives.

Considering the demands of today’s present socioeconomic situations, many Christians have strong desires to equate life’s purpose in their ministries and life’s worth with spiritual experiences and expectations. All too often many Christians live with fear of uncertainty, being met with stagnation from receiving their spiritual maturation as children of God with a purpose. What would be even more unfortunate is the lackadaisical nature of not addressing such a void.

This book will present a valuable alternative as a point of reference to the reader’s personal challenges or struggles. Even though it may only be of superficial knowledge, it will prove to be of immense assistance in the mastery of one’s self-consciousness.

The effort is made to enter upon those explanations that the author’s years of ministry and personal experience as a minister of the word of God have made him desire to share these views. The illustrious thoughts, moreover, are tempered by the scriptures, which will add depth and meaning to its use.

The author is deeply grateful to all those who, in the most gracious possible way, have examined the proof of the book thoroughly and have rendered invaluable assistance at any point. Much encouragement and help can be received from the wise council of this book. I find never-ending satisfaction in the thought that the knowledge of any subjects promoted to an extended degree by the independent and honest treatment of each thought from the author is respected.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I T IS MY declaration that my devotion and heartfelt gratitude goes to my wife, Jacqueline, whose love, patience, and understanding enabled me to persevere even in the toughest of times. In addition, I extend my thanks to my two sons, Tyrone and Jerome, both of whom were met with stiff competition with the computer for my attention during my journey of writing this book.

My appreciation most certainly extends to my beloved parents—my father, Rev. Donald Gordon, and my mother, Etta Gordon—who nurtured me (as well as my sibling) and worked unremittingly to groom me into the man I am today. Through the many prayers, unquenchable dedication, and commitment to the work of our Lord Jesus, Christ guided my path to the pursuit of God’s purpose for my life.

I also want to express thanks to Rev. Rennie L. Williams, Rev. S. L. Alexander, and their wives, who mentored, encouraged, and disciplined me through their prayers, for showing support and never discouraging me from giving up on God even when such thoughts surfaced.

Thanks to my editor and contact person, Janet Robinson, whose diligence and organizational abilities were pertinent in the coordination of this manuscript. My gratitude also goes to Rev. Clement Clarke, all of Jamaica, Rev. Rupert Clarke, and Rev. Beverley Gordon, who gave their time ungrudgingly to proofread and correct my many errors. Special thanks to the Stewart family for their hospitality beyond measure, and of course, God bless America.

Special thanks to Winifred Duncan, Thelma Johnson, and myriads of well-wishers, who influenced my life throughout the tender years and helped me grow in grace and knowledge and accomplish God’s purpose. Finally, but by no means least, thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

I find never-ending satisfaction in the thought that the knowledge of any subjects is promoted to an extended degree by the independent and
