CHAPTER 1
Raid on Iraqi Radar Site
It is 0200 in the late night during Operation Desert Storm (1991) in Saudi Arabia. As two UH-60 Black Hawks take off from the dusty concrete landing pads with its special operations team members. The blackout helicopters fly using infrared lighting devices to see in the darkness. First Lieutenant Connors looks out the window using his infrared goggles, seeing the green color of light reflecting off the sandy surface. The pilot notices he is now in Iraq, seeing small explosions on the ground between American troops and Iraqi Republican Guards firing at one another. Finally, the helicopters reach their secret landing zone.
Lieutenant Connors, as squad leader, leads his team out as the helicopter lands. The team rushes out into the darkness toward the Iraq central missile radar site. Just as the team approaches, there is a loud explosion from the rear. Suddenly, one of the Black Hawks explodes in a ball of flames, hit by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade). The team runs back to the remaining Black Hawk except for First Lieutenant Connors. He runs toward the radar site and places an explosive charge on the large antenna’s leg support.
Thirty Iraqi troops open fire on Connors and the retreating team. The team returns fire, yelling for Connors to get going. LT, get your ass over here!
The remaining helicopter prepares to take off. Within seconds, the radar site explodes in a shower of sparks and flying fiery debris. First Lieutenant Connors is thrown into the air, landing hard on the ground. The team boards the helicopter and flies off under intense machine-gun fire from the Iraqi troops.
First Lieutenant Connors is dragged to an awaiting jeep, where he is driven off to Baghdad. Small convoys of Iraqi jeeps arrive in Baghdad directly to the prisoner of war (POW) prison compound. He is escorted to his holding cell, where he is thrown in the damp and dusty room.
The sounds of air raid sirens fill the cold night air as cruise missiles streak through the night sky, hitting their targets in the city. Downtown Baghdad erupts in explosions and fire as antiaircraft guns fire into the night, missing the incoming missiles.
An outraged Iraqi jailer unlocks First Lieutenant Connors’s door and begins beating him with a nightstick. Connors screams in pain. "Ahhh! Stop! Ahhh!" He falls to the floor in a dark corner as the jailer hesitates with the next blow. Slowly the jailer notices something in the darkness of the cell where First Lieutenant Connors lies on the floor. Connors slowly opens his eyes toward the jailer as they become bright blue, visible in the darkness to the jailer.
The jailer trembles in fear and screams. By the gods! What are you?
The jailer runs out the cell in sheer panic. Connors’s body glows bright blue as it transforms into a bulky black creature. His uniform breaks at the seams as blue fluid runs from his mouth.
"Oh no! It’s happening!"
The glow disappears as Connors gets up on his large feet and crashes through the cell door, sending pieces of concrete flying in
