The RV Road Trip
I t was the beginning of summer. Barbara and Peanut woke up to a loud horn blowing. Barbara jumped out of her bed, and she said, Peanut, what do you think is making that loud noise?
Barbara opened Peanut’s cage, he jumped onto her shoulder, and they quickly walked to the window. When they looked out, they were both taken by surprise. Barbara said, Peanut, do you see what I see? Father is driving a recreational vehicle. I wonder why?
Barbara and Peanut made their way downstairs very fast to see what was going on. When they got to the bottom of the stairs, Father entered the house. Good morning, Barbara and Peanut. Come into the living room,
Father said, I will tell you all about the family adventure we are going to have this summer.
Barbara and Peanut followed Father into the living room; all excited to hear what was going on.
Father announced, We are taking an RV road trip. For two weeks, we will be living in the RV, driving to different places, and having fun adventures. So, Barbara, you and Peanut need to go pack what you need. We leave tomorrow at five a.m.
Barbara asked, What about Boo-Boo, our puppy, Mother?
Boo-Boo will stay with me at Grandma Johnson’s home, because he is too young to travel,
replied Mother.
Barbara asked, You’re not going, Mother?
No,
she replied, it will be a ‘father, daughter, and Peanut’ family adventure. I will miss you all, but I will be here when you come back home. I can’t leave your Grandma Johnson for that long of a time, my dear.
Peanut thought of how much he would miss Boo-Boo since he and Boo-Boo were such good friends.
Barbara ran upstairs with Peanut. She was hopping and skipping all around, singing, We are going on a road trip, yes, we are. We are going on a road trip, yes, we are.
Peanut was so excited. Barbara helped him pack. Peanut packed his travel case, travel cage, hammock, and two extra sleeping bags. Barbara packed for peanut his food, water bottle, and his two favorite toy bells, along with his brush for his long tail. Barbara took only a short time to pack. She took all her summer clothes, her sneakers and flip-flops. She told Peanut she would take her water wings in case they went to a pool or beach. So Barbara and Peanut headed downstairs with all of Peanut’s stuff first.
Barbara opened the door to the RV. Peanut jumped off Barbara’s shoulder onto the headrest of the driver’s seat. He looked around, and he was amazed. Peanut saw a small living room with a couch and two recliner chairs. Next to that was a kitchen. It had an oven, an icebox and freezer, a sink, and lots of cabinets. It looked like a smaller version of the kitchen in their home. Then Peanut looked even further back, and he saw a closed door. Barbara opened it and said, Come on, Peanut, let’s see our room, or should we call it a bunk?
There was a single bed with a large shelf above it, along with a TV and a light attached to the wall. In the back of the RV was a bathroom with a sink and shower. Peanut thought, this is just like our home, but much smaller.
Barbara put Peanut’s travel cage on the shelf in their room and secured it in by twisting suction-cup security straps down tightly. This gave Peanut a secure and safe travel when he was in his cage. When Barbara was done fixing up Peanut’s cage, it looked just like his big cage, but again, it was smaller, like everything in the RV. But it was very comfortable, and Peanut was so excited about beginning their trip. Barbara told Peanut she would be right back and went to get her stuff to put away in the RV.
While Barbara was gone, Peanut explored the RV. He found a bunch of buttons that were lit up, so he jumped on one of the buttons. To his surprise, he started moving. He was so scared; he just stood there until he stopped moving. He then looked around and realized the living room just moved out, and it was twice as big. Right at that minute, Barbara walked back in. She said, "Peanut, you found the
