Prologue
Lloyd Chadwick’s scheduled execution was only hours away. Despite Lloyd’s growing interest among the masses for his efforts to notify and inform the public about the devious machinations and plots planned by his employer, Lloyd had been accused and tried for murder, but there was doubt. Lloyd indeed was innocent of the crimes against the bosses of his company, but the bodies were never found. At the hour of his death, he often thought of his gorgeous love, whom he believed to be his savior and confessor. Where was she now? He had been alone most of the morning except for the presence of Mark Greenberg, a former high school friend Lloyd had not seen in years. Chadwick could hear the guards coming toward the door. As he was about to get up, Mark held him by the shoulders and hugged him. In the process, Mark handed him something and said, Here, take this!
Greenberg handed him a small, rounded piece of steel with a tiny needle sticking out.
Push the top of the piece into your thumb as soon as you feel the effect of the liquids in your body.
My god, Mark. What are you doing here in this room? They’ll be coming soon. I’ve got a lot of questions you know.
And he laughed almost uncontrollably.
Why, you may still get that chance,
Mark retorted.
Chadwick was tied down by the group of prison workers who went by their business silently and then out of the room and went about their way to the site of operating utilities that supplied the deadly poisons.
Chapter 1
During the year 2115, when Lloyd Chadwick was born on a rainy day in Whitfield, Ohio, it was a year of celebration for mankind, given the change and long-awaited dissipation of troops and related warring groups. The global war had finally ended, and human societies were in shambles. The planet found itself in a cultural and technical standstill save the inclusion of advanced weaponry that endured for over thirty years. Mankind now more than ever sensed the need to survive in a multisocial environment that was recovering from its devastating wounds of world conflict, a culture with its promises as well as with its potential threats suggestive of cultural deviance and questionable exploits. This was a culture in which certain ambitious political, business, or technical achievers strive for environmental dominance and overall control.
Lloyd Chadwick was a young man of many talents, a survivor who had escaped his own personal torments: the most predominant was his having to endure the torments and abuse of his adoptive father.
Now that the world crisis and its ensuing depression were over, the nations had changed many of their political, social, and diplomatic reasons to simply get along with each other within the global neighborhood. One predominant recovery factor involved the rekindling of many technical achievements: one of the most prominent and all-consuming projects was the development of space travel and interplanetary exploration. Lloyd Chadwick became intensely interested in areas of scientific research that dealt with the development, growth, and expansion of the human mind. Lloyd had learned much during his twenty-nine years. What he did not know earlier in his life was that the company that hired him performed scientific research on abandoned or kidnapped children. This exploit had little effect on him personally during the first years of identification with his company.
Chapter 2
Lloyd Chadwick lived with two families during his growing up years, the Chadwick family and the adopting Cassidy family. He was a tall man, six feet and four inches, who liked to dress in corduroy suits. He was dark blond, had piercing blue eyes, and rarely smiled although he was generally polite to those who knew him or worked with him in later years. His happiest childhood days were spent with Jeremy and Natalie, both of whom treated their son with unsparing kindness and care. He was taught to read by his father and to play piano by his mother. All this before he was six years old. Then one day, as Jeremy and Natalie were driving home, their car was struck by a massive truck, which happened to be in the wrong lane. Devastated, Lloyd was shaken up and immediately placed in a foster home until he became adopted by Russell and Eleanor Cassidy.
From the moment he arrived at his new adoptive home, Lloyd began to suffer indignities and acts of sexual abuse. This would, from now on, shape Lloyd’s behavior in his years ahead. He only assumed, even as a youngster, that he would be made to feel right at home after suffering the disaster that struck his first family. The Cassidys had five children, three of whom were adopted. Lloyd tried to warn the other kids, but to no avail. He became quite acclimated to
