    PROLOGUE—(1)

Standing watch at the sacrificial altar in Britain, the lone Druid priest watched the storm build up around him. It was the summer Equinox, and the fullest full moon he had ever seen. He’d been waiting for what seemed hours within the ring of monolithic rocks, feeling the power of the storm grow.

With each bolt of lightning, the force of energy contained inside the altar seemed to double in strength. The young Druid could see the flow of blue fire, as it passed from upright column to the next. A ring of horrendous force beyond anything he has ever seen. Being an Eight level master but only twenty-five years old, he hadn’t had much time to do anything.

He’d been tutored by the last of the great masters, all Level twelve’s, as well as being well past the hundred-year mark! They stood facing him now, their backs to each of the tall support posts. One for each of the twelve massive blocks of granite, which made up the druidical circle they now, stood in.

    PROLOGUE—(2)

He strained to hear the words that left their lips, but the roar of the wind added to the constant rumbling of thunder, made that impossible.

He remembered when the chants had been from the throats of thousands of gathered faithful followers; they voice reaching to the stars above them. Now their numbers could be counted with only a score of hands, of the priest.

The hordes of invaders brought plagues of diseases, and reckless slaughtering of human life beyond anything man could imagine. The supreme power of the Druid priest had reduce the invaders numbers by ten fold, yet still their ranks far out numbered the defenders. As powerful as the attackers were, it was not them that had caused the decline in followers.

One year ago it had begun, the shared dream had come to all that had remained faithful. Scatter; let the wind blow you over the land. Let your seed be planted wherever man shall live, till I call for you to come forth.

To only a few did the voice include something else, and those few now stood in the middle of a storm the likes of man had never seen. Kend remembered the dream in ever detail, for it had been his name the voice had called for. The instructions had been minuet in detail as to what each must do, but not as to what would take place.

    PROLOGUE—(3)

As rain began to fall, he began to speak a ritual chant, and in moment the rain seemed to turn aside before it touched him.

The time of the prophecy was at hand, the focal point of each man and woman’s destiny that followed the Druid way. Now twelve priests, Druids and Druidess of the old order, raised their arms. As one they pointed hands towards Kend, just as the dream image had told them to.

In a blast that turned night into day, dozens of lightning bolts struck the rock circle caps. Down the columns it went, into the bodies of each person standing against one. There the energy lingered for a moment, turning the breathing humans into living bolts of fire. Then in one mighty blast that force leaped out of their fingers tips.

Beams of radiant incandescence bathed Kend from twelve different directions. For an instant he became the most brilliant candle in the world, lighting the fading faces of the twelve people who had just sacrificed their lives.

As fast as the unnatural event had occurred, so did it leave? Steam arose from the still super hot, semi-melted rocks. No sign of its once visible power remained, now the rock’s circle was dead. Only piles of ashes, sealed in stone, marked where the twelve had stood. As to the man who had been the focal point of fire, nothing, no bones, or ashes remained; it was as if he had never existed.

    PROLOGUE—(4)

Virtually no trace of the once living and breathing man that had stood there.

This came as quite a shock to Kend, as he opened his eyes and found himself perceiving the world from several feet above the ground.

The storm’s fury seemed to alleviate almost instantly, as if the very life of it had been depleted in the one horrific burst of static electricity. What appeared as a fog bank hanging over the hilltop was indeed a cloud of vaporized earth and plants.

For fifty feet in a vast circular ring around the monolith, vegetation, and soil to a depth of a foot had just disappeared. Beyond that were only ashes of what had been a forest, only moment before. A blanket of gray dust muffled the cracking of cooling rocks, which had come close to melting.

The hand cut symbols etched deep into the surface of the pillars, seemed to have blurred to the point of becoming illegible. Or so it would have seemed had any the courage to venture close enough to see them.

In truth there was no living soul within miles of the Druid temple, one simply did not intrude upon their place of worship.

    PROLOGUE—(5)

One observed extreme caution, even when there appeared to be less of the dark cloaked priest around. Who knew what safeguards or curse’s had been concealed to catch the unwelcome traveler, or treasure seeker?

It was better to leave them and their stone temples alone. Being changed into a warthog or swallowed up by the ground beneath you could ruin your whole day!

So it was that no one had been around to witness the final act of the Druids faith. The very place that they used to have their meeting began to sink slowly into the ground.

Countless years later nothing remained except a round ring where nothing would grow, or living beasts enter.

    Chapter 1

    Historical Significance

Kristy could not wait to get to work today; this would be the day they opened the packing crates from England. The Los Angeles Museum had been chosen as the first place to display them.

The recent archaeological findings the team from the University of Southern California had dug up.

It was the find of the century, a perfectly preserved altar, which was believed to be of Druid origin. It had oddly been discovered, after an extremely heavy rainstorm had exposed several feet of it.

They were still arguing just how the massive tons of stone, had sunk almost twenty feet into the ground. It seemed everyone had his or her pet theory of what had happened. Earthquakes and mudslides were on the top of the list, sinkholes, and quicksand coming in a close second.

Kristy though had her own idea, one not held by any of her associates. She had been there when they had finally finished uncovering the complete site they had not!

There had been an Erie feeling about the place the second she had seen it. Not scary, just an odd feeling of power. The hairs on her neck had stood on end when she got within fifteen feet of it. All through the time they had spent getting it ready, she had had the distinct sensation of standing in a large church back home. That feeling of awe was there, a place where miracles were supposed to take place!

Some of the workers had felt it to, and had begun to make jokes about it, while crating the large pillars. No one though said a word, as the center portion of the Altar was uncovered. One look into the center of its fused heart, and you made sure to look anywhere but there afterwards.

Kristy had done it once and coldness beyond believes had gripped her heart and threatened to pull her soul loose.

It was now a mystery to be left for others to solve, as they tried to figure how it had been transformed into glass. What tremendous heat could do such a thing, and leave the rest of it untouched?

Kristy was not sure if even now, it could be reproduced; the technique was not something she had seen before. How could a primitive race of priest do it? And what was its purpose?

This extraordinary object was the reason for her arriving early for work, something she was not well known for. She just hoped it wouldn’t be expected from now on.

From the second she had laid her eyes upon it; it had been all she could think of. It had reached a point of becoming almost an obsession; even her dreams had become filled with its image.

Well maybe after today she had get her fill of it, god knows everyone around her would be glad to see that. She had been driving everyone involved with it crazy, asking questions she knew they could not answer.

Out in front of the museum she noticed several guards standing around, which was not normal even for something this big.

As she showed them her identification, she found that over the weekend the museums alarm system had been acting up. It seemed the power had been disrupted numerous times, causing security nothing but problems. After the police came for the third time, and failed to find a thief, the museum administers had been called. Not trusting the electronic security an outside agency

They had been brought in to guard the warehouse of mankind’s history. She reached the fenced area where the exhibition was being erected, and found it a mad house of activity.

Due to its enormous size, and that they wished to erect it full scale, it was taking a larger staff than normal.

The shear size of the Dolman required it to be displayed outside. The weight of the upright megalith’s and capstones had forced them to use a crane to position the huge stone blocks.

Kristy, as she watched, wondered how they had been raised in their original location. Each of the twelve capstones must have weighed several tons, as did the post that held them.

To top that, the measurements they had taken placed each

So equally apart, her calculator didn’t have enough decimals to compute the variations!

Eight hours of nonstop work, aided by modern wonders of technology, got them to the spot where all but the center altar was un-crated.

With less than an hour’s work left, mother natural made it known she still was in charged. The sky became a vast array of black billowing clouds; the wind began to blow with a vengeance that threatened to bring down the tall crane. The construction crew quickly called it a day, leaving Kristy standing they with only a couple of student to help her. Picking up a crow bar, she went to stand beside them.

Is it ok if we stay and help Miss Lawson? One of the Female students asked her. We don’t mind if we get a little wet, but we just can’t wait till tomorrow.

I feel the same way, and I’ve already seen it. By the way, it’s Kristy after hours not Miss Lawson.

Well I’m Marry Ellen and this is Leanna. We heard that you were there when they dug it out, what’s it really like?

I bet you were so damned excited, you could have screamed. Leanna asked her.

"Actually it was the opposite, everyone was struck with the need to remain absolutely silent. It felt as if you did more than blink, the whole place would turn to dust. We stood there for ten minutes holding our breathing to the point of almost passing out, before the feeling left us.

Its awe inspiring, and a bit scary to. Marry Ellen said, looking at the ancient artifact. It even looks like it’s starting to glow a bit. Kristy followed her line of vision, and noticed the odd Phenomena herself.

As the sky grew darker, the smell of rain was heavy in the air. The flash of lightning was becoming closer by the minute, giving everything a weird appearance.

Kristy noted that with each flash, the capstones took on more of a ghost light. There had to be some kind of phosphorescence mineral in the stone was the best guess she could come up with. Somehow, this did not seem to stop the flutters that her stomach was doing.

A flash of lightning suddenly lit the sky, and all three noticed the stone columns being to glow as well.

    "Why do I
