Paul Ryan, my nephew, has been an inspiration to me, which ultimately prompted me to write this book of his amazing experiences and research with communicating with the dead. It is exciting, and will give comfort to those who have lost loved ones in death, and gives hope knowing that we are able to contact them after death. It is utterly amazing and difficult to understand how the Spirit world and our world is able to connect. Alice Heaver Born and raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania and graduated from Union High School. I attended Nursing school in McKinney, Texas and graduated in 1982 from Collin Memorial Hospital School Of Nursing. I am married to a wonderful man, Andrew Heaver, and reside in Fort Myers, Florida for the past 19 years. I have written and published 26 novels since the year 2000. This book is my first non-fiction.

A Special note by Alice Heaver

This is a true story, written after consulting with my nephew, Paul Ryan on his experiences of communicating with Spirits through EVP’s. (Electronic Voice Phenomena).

These recordings give proof of life after death, with actual responses from Spirits. It is exciting to hear the responses he receives.

Since my brother passed away suddenly in January, 2004, Paul has contacted him numerous times, and he seems to be with Paul wherever he goes.

I was born on November 16, 1960 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Most of my early childhood was spent in North Hills, just outside of Pittsburgh, as a young boy. We lived in a house that was suspected of being haunted.

The house had many owners prior to us moving there, and the people who lived around us, told of strange lights coming from the house when it was vacant. Some thought it must have some type of electrical short that caused the light, however, we never experienced any electrical problems while living in the house.

I can remember my mother talking about a ‘cigar smoking ghost’ that lived with us in the house. For the most part, I didn’t believe in ghosts, and didn’t want anything to do with ghosts. But what I do know, . . . I could smell the smoke from time to time, and no one was smoking within the house.

My Mother, when she smelled the smoke would say, Go into the pantry and smoke. I don’t like smelling cigar smoke. Well the funny thing was, the smoke would go away withing the room, and could later be smelled in the pantry. This happened many times in the 10 years we lived there.

My Father passed away from a heart attack when I was 10 years old. He was only 40 years old at the time and I was devastated losing my Dad. It hurt me so much to go to the funeral home. I had a very hard time dealing with his death, and being in the funeral home. To this day, I don’t think I ever got over it. If I drive past a funeral home or cemetery, I get a cold sharp chill that comes from the center of my chest and spreads outward. It’s hard to explain, but it feels like something cold is passing through my chest and back, making my head arch to the side.

There has to be an extreme reason for me to go into a funeral home. I avoid them, at all costs, if I can. I believe these events in my early childhood, is why my fear of death was so strong over the years.

Now that I started recording EVP’s, and spending hours looking and listening for voices that are within the background noise, I can remember hearing this same type of strange voice in my ear, as a small child, living in that house in North Hills. I remember waking up many mornings with someone calling my name in my ear. I used to blame it on my brother, Bill, who slept in the top bunk bed. I believe that’s why I was so afraid of the dark, growing up so long ago.

My Father’s family was from New York City, and following his death, it became too much for my Mom to continue living in that house with two children to raise by herself. She sold the house and we moved to New Castle, Pennsylvania to be close to Mom’s family.

I don’t think of myself as a psychic, or that I am a medium, but I do know that I am able to talk to the dead using a tape recorder and a computer. I was able to record voices the very first time that I tried to record. Actually, even before I ever purposely tried to record EVP’s, I would find mysterious voices on the miscellaneous sound recordings.

From the articles that I’ve read on recording an EVP message, you must try over and over to find and record voices, but not so with me. I received responses the very first time I recorded.
