Diane Wilson
Diane Wilson is an award-winning writer, speaker, and editor. Her work includes Spirit Car: Journey to a Dakota Past (2006), Beloved Child: A Dakota Way of Life (2011), and The Seed Keeper (2021) which won the Minnesota Book Award. Her essays have been featured in many publications, including We Are Meant to Rise; Kinship: Belonging in a World of Relations; and A Good Time for the Truth. Wilson is a Mdewakanton descendent, enrolled on the Rosebud Reservation.

WHO AM I
Who am I? Can you truly ask yourself? You may have to ponder
and wonder, I think I know myself, but can I? Am I living in a
fool’s paradise. My aspirations are far from reality. Why am I existing
over all? I wonder, am I chasing rainbows with never-ending
channels?
To search deep inside your soul, trying to find the real you,
and my reason for being, the inner me has finally appeared. No longer
pondering which destination to take. The challenges in my life are less
threatening. The door that has been shut for much too long is now opening.
Am I fearful of the unknown? Or will I walk through this door?
I have finally found the rainbow that seemed never ending in my mind, where
all my dreams lie dormant and unfulfilled for much too long.
The winding roads now seem straight.
I’m more than eager to walk through this gate. I
I have found myself, and there’s no turning back.
ALL MY DREAMS ARE BECOMING A REALITY.
It’s because I took time to listen to the inner voice.
Who I am isn’t a mystery; I am all that I’m destined to be,
realizing that all things are possible if we believe in ourselves,
facing life’s challenges with optimism, and
never accepting defeat. This is WHO I AM!
THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAMS
The impossible dreams is what you believe that’s not attainable, but the mere facts when someone says you can’t achieve a goal make it more of a challenge—TO MAKE WHAT YOU THOUGHT IMPOSSIBLE HAPPEN. The challenge is very satisfying to see all your goals achieved when you felt they were impossible. Everything is achievable if you only believe.
