The following individuals deserve special acknowledgment:

To Caitlin and Jessica Jennings, my loving teenage daughters, for their sense of humor, ambition, inspiration, and excitement to create our family business. As an all-girls, single-mom home, I could not have done this without your loving support and patience. You girls are the best and I love you.

Kendall Jon Williams, my most witty three-year-old, for your overwhelming patience and many nights of comic relief. Your personality shines in this book, as many of the humor I experienced was relative to your creative sayings all of which are incorporated in this book (WYPM—what’s your problem mom ;-), or stop writing and come lay with me). I love you, sweetheart.

Sharon Telford-Proctor, otherwise known as Grandma. Thank you for your willingness to help with the girls while I wrote many countless nights. Thank you for your graciousness and for being there at the outset.

To my friends that believed in me, encouraged, and offered me many inspirational thoughts to contribute to this book. Kristy Webster, Aaron Bernard, Greg Messemer, Tom Forrester, Colin Fahrig, the many nights you all text messaged me with your latest and greatest new acronyms. You sparked my drive to keep writing, have fun, and keep my enthusiasm alive.

To my entire family for their unconditional support, patience, cheerleading, and always being there.

    Introduction

The words in your vocabulary represent the building blocks of your thought, and they are essential to understanding and communication. In today’s world, technologies’ influence has catapulted our ability to communicate into new arenas. There are so many ways to make contact with people now, and the most popular means is through text messaging.

It has become a phenomenon and an essential means to communicate for millions of people throughout the world. Text messaging allows the user to apply their vocabulary proficiency with their technology savvy and create short concise ways to communicate to friends, family, teachers, and employers in a same-time mode. As a result, saving time and expenses by eliminating lengthy or time-consuming telephone calls.

I was initially inspired by my three daughters. We found humor in making up cryptic shortened ways to communicate in public. We shared many secret family sayings. We would write them down to remind ourselves of our latest ingenious saying. We did this for several years, often writing our ideas on napkins, notebooks, scrap papers, etc. We had no idea how later we would apply those cryptic codes into our new and fun way to secretly share our humor among one another. My daughters would laugh when I would tease them and say BFHL™ (big fat hairy liar) when describing someone that we were perplexed by.

Consequently, as text messaging became a fun, creative way to communicate, I began to implement our secret family sayings into a dictionary. I began to do research on the mobile industry and the impact text messaging was having today. I was amazed that I was not alone in the craze and addiction to text messaging. As I sat with coworkers during meetings, I would receive text messages from my friends and daughters, either communicating sweet little I love you or let’s meet tonight at 7 pm instead of 6 pm or can I take you out tonight date text.

It finally hit home with me when I took my girls to a Maroon 5 concert and the realization that the audience does not hold up lighters anymore; they held up their cell phones when the auditorium went dark in tribute to the band! In between bands, the marquee would solicit the audience to text something to the MC, who then would post the text on the big screen for all the audience to see. My daughters spent the entire intermission texting messages like "I love you mom, thanks
