    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

To Milton H. Johnson Sr., my loving husband, who didn’t know I was up late at night writing this book, also to Willie Alice Lewis, my eighty-five-year-old mother. She warned me about being fired three months before my life changed. She has supported me throughout my life and kept that cover over me (my dad). To my eldest son Milton Jr., a humble child, I must have carried you in my womb in peace. My second oldest son Ira II, I know I thought I was the smartest in the world when I had you because you are highly intelligent in all areas of your life. Last but not least, my two love children Xavier and Alexis; I had these two children eight years later in my marriage with only one fallopian tube. Xavier has a King’s intelligence about himself, but is a very happy child and easy on the eyes. I thought I was so pretty when I was pregnant with him. My daughter Alexis, who is very inquisitive about everything. If she says it, you better believe it. She is a daddy’s girl, but she is God’s little daughter and my miracle.

To my spiritual family and mentors who inspired me to write this book. I knew one day I would write a book, but after becoming a member of their ministry, my faith grew into inspiration from the sound teachings and word of God from teachers. Thanks to all of Break through Bible Institute Instructors (Detroit, Michigan) and Destiny School of Ministry (Roseville, Michigan) and Prophetess Haddon who said Get it done now (Inkster Michigan). To the one who fired me, I forgive you, and to the one who hired me, I love you, the most for forgiving me Almighty God.

    Chapter 1

    SECOND OLDEST PROFESSION

The definition of surveying is the art and science of making measurements on or near the Earth (Kavanagh).

In surveying, there are random errors and accidental errors. Surveying is a message, and God is the messenger to his people. Surveying is a right path (Survey the Map, The Bible Story). The United States Mete and Bounds Act, enacted by Congress about a century and a half ago, established the world’s first system to surveying the whole nation into sections and townships, laid out by compass—which even today, most nations do not have—truly a nation measured out by lines on the ground under foot. (Comparet)

In the American Heritage College dictionary, the definition of Surveying is the measurement of dimensional relationships, as of horizontal distance, elevations, direction, boundaries, and mapmaking precision. Surveyors map out the land with mathematic formulas. A surveyor performs a vital function in land development. Before anything specific can be done, the lay of the land must be considered so that objectives of the developer are congruent with what the land offers. (Smith)

I would like to begin my life story by telling you how I developed this career and interest in my life with God and surveying: in the belly of my mother’s womb Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart. (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV) My mother dropped out of school in the eleventh grade to help with the family finances. She always wanted to teach mathematics in school. My father was a construction worker for many years before working as a sanitation engineer (custodian) at Central, Durfee, and Roosevelt in the Detroit Public School System.

I became interested in this field as a teenager and a student construction inspector. My map was the Detroit Area Pre-college Engineering Program, the City of Detroit Engineering Department, and the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department Survey Division. I learned this trade like the back of my hand. I could do this job with my eyes closed
