About this ebook

This is a book about science, religion, and being, yours and mine. The study of being is called Ontology. Our culture is dominated by a naturalist ontology. The question is: does ontology include a supernatural component? Or, is that idea a relic of our primeval past, sort of like appendix and adenoids, parts that can be excised from the body of our belief system? The author argues for the primacy of the transcendent (supernatural) ontology by means of two books: the book of nature, and the book of transcendency (the Bible), each containing its own portion of the evidence. Mr. Carlson argues for the following:
The universe represents a small portion of Gods ontology, a small reality devoted to redemption. The signet of redemption is the number 7; its appearance within chronology is deliberate, instructive, and compelling.
The Creation Week account reflects a two-fold metaphor: (1) space-time itself was created to support the redemptive act, and (2) mankinds history will unfold in a series of seven ages, later quantified as millennia.
The interval between Adam and Abraham literally filled one redemptive bi-millennium, but the catastrophic effects of 3 realities, the Cainite civilization, Noah, and the break-up of Pangaea, contribute to the appearance of myth as viewed by the uniformitarian geologist for whom catastrophes appear invisible. The 2nd bi-millennium, Abraham-
to-Messiah, was also fulfilled exactly in redemptive time. The termination of our age is imminent and dependent upon the chronology of Israel,
mankinds chronograph.
A detailed chronology of the history of Israel is flavored with the redemptive signet, especially 70 yrs or 70 heptads of yrs. By decoding Israels history in redemptive time and employing the single concept of the favor of God, the author derives a Biblical-based proof that modern Israel is the same and identical state founded by Samuel in 1096 BC. Three independent proofs of this foundational date are provided. These proofs show that the Monarchy existed for exactly 511 yrs, which period is exactly equal to 73 heptads: Israel is an heptadic state.
The author concludes that the redemptive corollary to Israels ontology is also proven: we have actually entered the end-times and the events associated with the last days will soon unfold.
Because the reality of Israel is visible to all, it is apparent that the redemptive offer made to mankind is also real and visible, such as that appearing in John 3:16, John 6:40, and Romans 10:9-13. There is much to learn about our world. Start now. Tomorrow may be too late!

    ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND CAVEATS

D o you enjoy discovery? T he greatest discovery of the past 500 years is the fact that space-time is discoverable! In a similar vein, the author argues that the Creator of space time is also discoverable. Discovery is good. It results in a refined definition of our beliefs, thus leading us closer to 'the truth'. The truth, as defended here, is part of the world view which holds that our existence is derived from a moral imperative of purpose within a creative framework of an intelligent creator.

Therefore, in answer to the question posed above: 'Do you enjoy discovery?', this book combines discoveries in science and religion in support of the claim that God exists, that He is immanent in our realm, that He is on-track to complete His redemptive program in our realm. We also demonstrate that the redemptive testimony is not 'full of myth' as touted by its critics. These new discoveries are achieved by employing the process of technical analysis for which discoveries are the consequence. This approach minimizes personal bias and provides results that science regularly achieves in a 'maximum likelihood' sense. That sense is necessary in our realm for realities that exist in the Transcendent (supernatural) realm, a realm that exists beyond the restricted confines of the scientific method, but is foundational for the concept of 'faith' as it applies to the realm of God.

The reader is challenged to address the reality of the discoveries presented in later pages: that is, Israel's history is defined by heptadic intervals (multiples of seven years) from the Exodus to the end of the age---the Great White Throne Judgment. It can't be a random coincidence that led to this result! Furthermore, the integrity of the Scripture is revealed through this detailed design---no random chaos or mere mythology is involved.

My hat is also off to the excitingly capable team that assembled and utilized the amazing satellite laboratory known to all as WMAP, whose program goals and results probably represent the most sweeping experiment ever conducted by man! From those people came much of the data incorporated in this book.

Of equal merit is the appreciation of critical analysis of the transcendent text we know as the Bible. To Ernest Laycock, pastor of North Syracuse Baptist Church, who was a faithful expositor of the scriptures and known to all as a most dedicated servant of Jesus, I owe my introduction into Christianity. And to Charles Cook and Dr. Roy Lawson, pastors of Central Christian Church of Mesa, Arizona, I owe the appreciation of ministry and the ability to keep one's eye on the ball: don't major in minors.

To the renowned biblical scholar, Sir Robert Anderson, the writer of these pages owes an additional debt of gratitude. Sir Robert, a commoner knighted by Queen Victoria, used his critical analytical skills as head of Scotland Yard at the turn of the twentieth century to piece together an analysis for the impending reality of a revived state of Israel (an event fifty years in his future). He carefully derived an analysis of the ninth chapter of the book of Daniel, which laid in full view a fulfillment of the incarnate arrival of the Messiah, a prophecy that culminated on the very day we call Palm Sunday! His analytical techniques have been extended in this volume to include an analysis of the biblical basis that establishes the fact that the modern state of Israel is actually the same, and identical, state brought into existence by the efforts of Samuel, the prophet who lived in the days of Saul, the first king of Israel. So what? It suggests that God will deal with modern Israel using the same chronological markers that He employed in the past. The reader will learn that this discovery supports a more literal rendering of the Biblical Testimony, resulting in 'less myth, more truth'.

The reader will also note that in order to 'decode' the fact that Israel's chronology is heptadic in nature (see Glossary), the author must present a precise accounting of history via a precise calculation of the time intervals involved. Sorry about precision. Approximation just doesn't cut it. :)

    Caveat Emptor:

This book confronts the issues of existence, origins, transcendency, worldviews, and why of life and mind. For the Naturalist, the why question is answered by its proponents as the result of a set of random, chaotic, mindless series of events: life is purposeless. It is the result of a Mindless Chaos! For the Supernaturalist, life and mind satisfies a transcendent purpose. This book is written to collect arguments in support of the creative forces surrounding an intelligent design paradigm wherein life has a purpose. So, did life arise from a mindless chaos or does it exist on purpose? By the time the reader finishes the eight chapters, 11 appendices, and numerous endnotes that comprise this book, he will come to appreciate that the Biblical text is free of myth and, paradoxically, it is Naturalism itself that is richly filled with mythical assumption. These issues, the issues surrounding origins, lie beyond the scope of the scientific method, so there is no consensus among leading physicists concerning the meaning of the facts discussed within these pages. Controversy abounds! Facts unveiled by leading scientists are usually not disputed and are not disputed here. In fact, newly discovered facts are used in these pages as inference builders for a renewed transcendent worldview.

The transcendent worldview contains laws just as the natural world contains laws. These laws are described in some detail within the transcendent text. However, the validity of transcendent laws is always argued through the lens of the naturalist philosopher/scientist rather than from the pages of the transcendent text itself (those pages are assumed to originate in superstition and myth as we discuss later). A fundamental reason for continual trivialization of the transcendent message is due to the difference between the natural man and the renewed man (the Spirit-led man). This difference is summarized in a law of discernability stated as follows: Natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Because of the discernability law, we will always be confronted with naturalist opinion, subjective opinion, and agenda-driven opinion that is an outgrowth of the naturalist worldview; these are the disputed factors within these pages. Speculation runs deep on both sides of the isle, as the reader will observe. We humans are not merely an assembly of facts, however. Our minds are always confronting the meaning of the facts. The word proof is never used in this volume, only inference because instruments positioned within the three dimensions of space-time are incapable of producing transcendent proof. An attempt has been made in these pages to support each paragraph with the latest data so that the basis for a legitimate argument in favor of transcendency (see glossary) can be supported.

An important by-product of this examination is the appreciation that we humans are faced with two books that deal with transcendency: the book of nature and the book of God's Word. In our age we are opening the former book to pages about which we had imprecise knowledge. We had speculation. We had opinion. The same could be said for the latter book concerning cosmology. (Remember Copernicus?) So how does one interpret these books? How does one reconcile both books? Can each book be used to support the claims of its companion? Is the latter book merely a compendium of myths gathered from other mythmakers? The conclusion, a firm negative to that question, is derived herein.

Both of these books require a hermeneutic (see Glossary), or method of interpretation. Until our age, information was lacking to make the definitive selection of meaning related to the two messages. But in Chapter 7, the reader is presented with a detailed analysis using the literal-historical (also called the grammatical-historical) hermeneutic that efficiently decodes Israel's existence and therefore, points the way toward the intended technique of biblical exegesis for the 'end time'. It's also apparent that the data in neither book can be rejected without suffering loss of meaning.

So here's the caveat: this book contains controversy. Controversy between the naturalists and the supernaturalists; controversy between the Darwinians and the Creationists; controversy of hermeneutics concerning the fulfillment of a physical millennium of peace (the Day of Rest); controversy between the accommodationists and those who give God the 'benefit of the doubt'; controversy within the Faith Community concerning the random unfolding of Israel's history vs. the discovery of Israel's heptadic chronology, and finally, controversy concerning a candidate identity of John's VIP (the anti-Christ) presented in Chapter 13 of his Revelation: an End-Time description that demands an explanation. We report, you decide!

Many of the discoveries in this book are revealed as a result of having the correct model by which we can decode the mystery that frames our existence. This model, this unique decoder, flows from an appreciation of the revealed plan of God's redemptive process and is revealed in the history of Israel, a history that is presented in terms of an heptadic structure (multiples of 7) in all of its many facets, including that of Israel's Messiah. In that regard, it must be recognized that this structure is pervasive, compelling, and deciding when in conflict with secular sources. The reader will learn that Israel is the world's chronograph, a timepiece that reveals progress in God's redemptive plan for mankind.

These eight chapters and 11 appendices discuss many topics, including the following:

    • Why are we here? Does Spacetime have a purpose? How do we properly support this question?

    • The Universe is accelerating its rate of expansion. Why is that important?

    • What are the ontological implications of modeling the expansion as 'traveling with space' vs. 'traveling through space'?

    • What is a Universe Generating Mechanism? What is a Space Generating Mechanism? Are these mechanisms part of the Scientific Method? Why are they important?

    • What is Scientism? What is the current proclamation of Scientism?

    • Why are the Creation events modeled as a series of seven days? What purpose is served by encompassing all of prehistory into a series of seven things?

    • Why has Israel's history unfolded within an heptadic structure? What is the link between Israel and the number '7' ?

    • Does God actually exist in any 'provable' sense? Why is chronology important? Is it possible to discover teleology by discoveries within chronology?

    • Is the Bible a collection of myths? How much myth exists within the philosophy of naturalism?

    • What are the teleological implications surrounding Dark Energy and Dark Matter?

    • Does the concept of entropy have any bearing on the viability of the alternate creation paradigm? What are the two major fallacies of Darwinism? What is valid about Darwinism that makes it so argumentative?

    • What is significant about the breakup of Pangaea?

    • What is significant about the Cainite civilization? Why do you need to know about Cain?

    • What is significant about Neanderthal? Are primates and hominids separate kinds of life forms?

    • What is significant about the Gulf oil well disaster of 2010? How is that connected to Cain?

    • What is important about Transhumanism?

    • What is significant about the parameters of the Earth's year, the Moon's month, the precession of the equinox, the tuned nature of the Earth's calendation cycle, and knowledge of past events? Do these parameters suggest design rather than chaos?

    • What is the error in our Julian calendar? Can we actually determine what day it is, right now, today? Can we reconcile the Books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles and learn anything important? Is it important to know Israel's birthday when separating truth from myth?

    • How can one prove the date of Israel's birthday? At least three proofs exist and they each point toward transcendent control over Israel's history. Why?

    • When did the Nativity occur? Why that day? What is significant about the calendar-interval between the Messiah's birth and His death? Can we use astronomical data to answer these questions?

    • What is the Shekinah? What is startling about the interval of His presence before Israel?

    • Can we prove that Israel today is actually related to anything in the Bible (other than a name)? Avoiding mere assumption, is it important that David Ben Gurion announced Israel's existence in 1948?

    • Can anyone prove anything about 'the end-time'? Does Israel today have anything to do with the end-time? Is there a supportable paradigm that actually defines end-time parameters? Can we separate Fact from Fiction and thus dismiss baseless claims, such as the Mayan calendar?

    • How can we prove the deciding method of Bible interpretation? Are there 'First Principles', the solution to which would recommend a particular Biblical hermeneutic as an aid to understanding the times? Are all interpretive schemes equal? Do they all give the same answer? Why look for answers anyway?

    • Why doesn't America, the greatest Gentile nation to ever exist, appear in the Bible or within any discussion of end-time events? Read why.

The reader is going to gain insight into the value of having the correct 'Decoder', an analytical tool that utilizes knowledge gained from Israel's heptadic (see Glossary) chronology. The insight gained is a 'proof of God's existence' and knowledge that the Bible is a credible, reliable, and myth-free testimony of the Transcendent reality we know as 'God'. Lacking the pervasive guidance of the decoder, many talented scholars have failed to produce a fruitful result or failed to appreciate the extent of their discovery. On the other hand, the reader will discover errors in this volume, even though a serious attempt was made to follow the leading of the paradigm; they are readily attributable to the imperfections of its author and not to the structure of the original message.

Finally, we give thanks to all those who labor in truth, who hold the truth to be sacrosanct, above every agenda, and look to its domination over this present realm, especially to Him who authored the way, the truth, and the life.

    INTRODUCTION

C OULD IT BE any more interesting? Life in the twenty-first century has more facets than the Hope diamond. Everything we need is at our fingertips. Indeed, even your three-year-old has learned to use his fingers to push every button designed by enterprising engineers: Turn on the TV, change the channels, load a DVD, watch a movie, or play a video game. And don't forget that cell phone, iPod, and Wii! We now know what thumbs were created for: texting girlfriends or selling an expensive piece of property on Miami Beach, all done in a flash.

Yet something else is missing amidst the gadgetry of our age. Our minds still seek connection with something besides a gadget. We are living in a post-Christian age wherein belief in a transcendent reality is repugnant among the intellectual class. It is clear that America's exceptionalism (an experiment in human freedom) is being eroded by loss of its transcendent worldview. Our culture is leavened with secularism and scientism, which are promoted as the source of trust and assurance: i.e., the naturalists assume that their proponents know all the answers or soon will! What is missing here?

In the face of oversold assurances that science has all the answers, it is understandable that reactionary modes have arisen to deal with the vacuum in our lives. Many within the community of faith have turned to anti-intellectual arguments that reject knowledge gained through the scientific endeavor: it's a baby-and-bathwater effort that marginalizes the legitimate concerns of the faith community about this over-reach. If the community of faith is going to tout faith in God, then let's follow the path of discovery because we all know that, in the end, the truth will win out!

This book was written to advance the position of a preponderantly old Earth, transcendental worldview: the Earth is old, but man is young---an old Earth that has numerous young features and a young mankind that has numerous old antecedent hominids. A synthesis of knowledge is required to decode these relationships.

The arguments presented here will acknowledge some truly remarkable achievements of science by presentation of the latest discoveries, many of which owe their legitimacy to the scientific revolution embodied in satellite technology---a capability that became mature in the 1990s, very recent achievements of the technological society. Many of those that are dissatisfied with the overreach of the naturalist have not addressed the full import of these new discoveries. Perhaps they have been threatened by the constant over-reach of naturalistic scientists and their media promoters.

It may be surprising to learn that this new information displays an ever-increasing support for transcendental design throughout the universe even though the overwhelming attitude of the secular proponents within the culture war, the proponents of the alternate belief system, is that secular presuppositions are constantly being affirmed within all aspects of our culture from discovery to discovery. Conversely, we argue here the fact that many of the popular secular tenets of space-time rest on naturalist philosophical presuppositions but are assumed by all to represent the truth. These a priori givens will also be explored.

The seven chapters in this book are laid out as an apologetic in support of the transcendental origin of the two books of God's testimony: the book of nature and the book of the written Word. The burden of this volume is to show that the manifold of space-time actually reveals a divine component to cosmology, to chronology: the entirety of our existence. And most importantly, we attempt to display the most important purpose of space-time as we witness that purpose unfolding before us: fellowship with the Creator via His unfolding plan of redemption.

In Chapter 1, the basis for five current worldviews and existence models is reviewed to show that the intelligent-design view, the view based on the existence of a transcendent being, actually contains the most reasonable set of requirements for a plenary existence paradigm (see glossary). These requirements are summarized and compared with the nonplenary naturalist models. It is not enough to merely say I don't believe in God. It is required that one also presents a complete worldview that defines the boundaries of existence, including purpose. Otherwise, one is dealing with mere opinion.

Chapter 2 validates the legitimate boundaries of science and presents the exciting verification now available concerning the origin of space-time, the big bang, a verification of fundamental principles of purpose that warrants support by the faith community. The latest data increases the inference that a transcendental cause that possesses the qualities of intelligence, morality, and purpose has been immanently involved in the creation and continuous operation of space-time and whose immanent activities are now being manifest. Prominent acts of God's purpose are delineated in this text. A particularly important act of purpose has now been measured by the scientific enterprise that clearly shows that space-time, and its inhabitants, are unique. Read why. This chapter also discusses evidence inferring that the planet we call home has been located within a special place within space-time, revealing yet another purposeful inference. Yes, dear reader, this is an anti-Copernican conclusion, a heresy of the naturalist paradigm!

Chapter 3 hones in on the development of life and mind, the two most important attributes of space-time. We will see that the naturalist paradigm that pervades our culture represents a confusing treatment of these attributes. First of all, it is confusing because it is in error due to the inclusion of a fundamental element of over-reach within the Darwinian paradigm. Secondly, it is confusing because many in the faith community feel compelled to adopt this error concerning man's ancestry, especially the era between Adam and Abraham. This position represents the accommodationists whose stance dilutes, confuses, and ultimately, aids the naturalist world view. Thirdly, it's confusing because the adoption of Darwinian claims destroys many elements of God's redemptive plan and insight into His teaching throughout the Bible. Thus, the chapter develops a Bible-based model of anthropology that corrects the errors concerning life and mind. This model shows how we can unravel the complicated relationship that exists between primates, humans, Neanderthals, and a surprising kicker, the role that the Cainite civilization played in the primeval age. Unraveling the mystery requires input from both books of creation. Many surprises await the reader as biblical anthropology is developed from the record of present-day discovery. Readers will need to reevaluate their notion of history in the period between Adam and Abraham as they discover that there are no gaps, no missing generations.

Chapter 4 switches gears from cosmology to chronology and discusses how time is developed within space-time, and how the measure of time can help decode our existence. We find that both space and time reveal a bias toward the establishment of technological life, a bias that has been dubbed the Anthropic principle. The plain, overwhelming presence of this life-friendly principle has caused the naturalists to change their message by simply refashioning the principle so they can move on to the nonprovable multiverse concept. The important point to be made about the Anthropic Principle: it is a result of natural discovery that introduces the concept of 'purpose' into the discussion about our origins.

An important chronological fact is explored: the difference between natural and redemptive chronology. The difference between these chronologies leads to the apparent appearance of gaps within the natural chronology, where natural chronology is measured by revolutions around the Sun; redemptive chronology proceeds by advancement toward God's redemptive purpose. The appearance of gaps has caused considerable debate within the community of faith (and extensive ridicule by the naturalists who are aware of these gaps), so the presentation of a section on gaps is required in order to appreciate the difference between natural and redemptive chronology.

But God's chronology does not have gaps; He is right on schedule, as reported in scripture. Consider 2 Peter 3:4-9: He is not slow in keeping His promise . . . not wanting anyone to perish, but that all may come to repentance. From this model, we can deduce that God used chronological metaphors to reveal His most important purpose within the confines of space-time---that purpose is nothing less than the redemption of mankind in God's purposeful time, a time that He also revealed by both prophetic and retroflective evidence within the confines of His word. These evidences will be reviewed.

Chapter 5 discusses how the development of God's purpose, and our ability to decode that purpose, resides in one particular nation concerning His agenda, the nation of Israel. The chapter develops the redemptive theme for that nation (and, therefore, all nations), and shows that a particular set of time intervals has been repeatedly fulfilled in the history of that small country. The repetition of those intervals, based entirely on the number '7' and its multiples, demonstrates that Israel's history and destiny is not a random variable but proceeds according to a preconceived agenda. The implications are significant: that the world's history and destiny are, likewise, not random variables, but also proceed according to a preconceived agenda. In fact, in Chapter 5 and Appendix 9, we develop a complete reconciliation of Israel's history as recorded in Samuel/Kings/Chronicles. The result follows from the correct identification of Israel's foundational year of 1096 BC in Chapters 5 and 6, and Appendix 9. This discovery clearly reveals the presence of a specific marker in Israel's history, that marker being an heptadic structure that infers a design paradigm rather than a mindless

chaos. Chapter 6, Appendices 7, 10, and 11 establish these heptadic structures with precision.

Chapter 6 explores God's immanence within the pages of the written Word. The presence of His immanence is demonstrated by means of a certain lunar calendar. This calendar is precisely tuned to the exact calendation cycle of the Earth, 128 years. Furthermore, this calendar has the unusual capability to determine the exact interval between biblically described events, intervals that exhibit a heptadic structure (see glossary). The transition to this lunar calendar shows that the use of proper time coordinates reveals biblical truth that is otherwise unrevealed. Seeing through the lens of Abrahamic history, we can conclude that the Bible is a book of truth rather than myth because we see previously declared events occurring with a common repetition that defies coincidence but, instead, reveals purpose. A remarkable discovery, presented in Chapter 6 concerning the 'Shekinah'--the visible presence of God in our realm--reveals this purpose. The naturalist is forced to acknowledge the fact that teleology (purpose) is a foundational component of space-time! In fact, we can say: Teleology begets Ontology!

Finally, in Chapter 7, a biblically-based argument is derived, which proves that the present nation of Israel is, in fact, nothing less than the revived, original, and historic state of Israel! It is not merely a creation of secular and atheistic Zionists, as charged by the Orthodox Jews; and it is not merely a briefly appearing artifact of world history, as charged by its enemies, a secular state that will soon disappear as a result of Arab opposition. Rather, it is the central demonstration that this generation is actually living in the oft-ridiculed end times---a time when God openly intervenes in the affairs of man: a conclusion reached by biblical exegesis and basic biblical principles, a procedure that infers that the end times have actually begun. Read why this discovery can change the way you live your life!

Yes, in spite of the many and varied forms of sensationalism that have accompanied this period---conjectures based on a faulty hermeneutic (biblical interpretation, see glossary) as discussed in Chapter 1---we can actually base the conclusion that we may comprise generation X, the generation that witnesses the conclusion of God's purpose with mankind, within the framework of fundamental biblical principles. The proof not only validates the present state of Israel as a God thing, but it also validates the literal-historical hermeneutic from which it is derived, an important by-product for the faith community.

The results presented in this final chapter provide the centerpiece of the biblical worldview: viz., if the proof of such an important topic within biblical eschatology can be derived alongside the inference-building achievements of science, how can the reader avoid the inference that his own destiny is included in the text as it also affirms?

Thus, space-time can be decoded, as the book title suggests. An important question that needs examination concerns God's use of numbers and metaphors during this end-time period: i.e., when will the end actually end? But as expressed with Dr. Emmett Brown's detailed experiments using the modified DeLorean in the film Back to the Future, we may be OUTATIME.

    GLOSSARY

ae: An abbreviation for 'author's emphasis' that is employed in the text.

a posteriori: Making a conclusion based on previous results, moving from effect to cause, inductive reasoning.

a priori: Making a conclusion before the result is achieved, moving from cause to effect, deductive reasoning.

adaptation: The primary basis of Darwinian evolution. It contains the central mental picture inside each naturalist's argument. It consists of five components: Changing environments are coupled with the forces of natural selection, mutation, recombination (the random contributions by the parent's DNA to the next generation's genes), and drift (completely random genetic events). When most naturalists speak of evolution, they are advancing these five components as the basis of their concept. None of these five components is necessarily advantageous to the life form and none of the components necessarily drives the life form from a simple to complex state. Darwinians insert the important concept of necessity by means of the argument of autogenesis (see autogenesis). The presence of adaptation within nature is undisputed within these pages; the dispute centers on the assumption that these specific five components are responsible for the creation of all life forms beginning with inorganic elements and some primeval DNA-endowed cell. The counterargument is that adaptation to a changing environment occurs due to the presence of predesigned functionalities (consisting of genes, proteins, and control mechanisms) incorporated within the cells of all living forms at their creation event, and each functionality is initiated as the environmental pressure requires. Thus, adaptation leads to speciation, but the fundamental genome of each kind presents a barrier to the effects of adaptation.

ad hoc: A definition advanced to specifically address a preexisting hypothesis, even though research does not conclusively support the definition.

ad infinitum: endless, repeating over and over.

allegory: A figure of speech in which a deeper meaning underlies the literal meaning. The allegory moves the reader from the literal to the spiritual realization; it is not intended to be fulfilled physically.

angles: The ancient Babylonians divided the common circle into 360 parts, called degrees, where one degree equaled the advance of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun each day! Implications of this prior knowledge are discussed in the text. In astronomy, the circle is divided into two confusing angular units: one based on rotation and one based on time. The time-based unit assumes 24 hr/day, 60 min/hr, and 60 sec/min to arrive at an arc-sec that is equal to 1/86,400 of a circle: the angular measure of this arc-sec is the amount the Earth rotates in 1 time second. The angle-based unit assumes a division of 24 hr/day, 15 deg/hr of earth rotation, 60 min/deg, and 60 sec/min to arrive at an arc-sec that is equal to 1/1,296,000 of a circle: the angular measure is the amount the Earth rotates in 1/15 of a time second. Researchers in the modern digital age are turning to the practice of expressing angular measure with 4-decimal-place precision; this procedure divides the circle into 360 × 10,000 = 3,600,000 parts.

anthropic principle: The realization that all the parameters of the universe have values that are biased toward the development of technological life. It forms an important component in the concept of purpose when applied to space-time. Belief in a creator God represents 'The Strong Anthropic Principle', because that concept ascribes 'purpose' to space-time.

anthropology: The science that studies man both as an animal and a member of a social structure, in which it is assumed that man is one among many animals and represents no exceptionalism within Darwinian evolution. The overwhelming majority of all practitioners are members of the Darwinian community, so all discoveries of prior hominid activity are cast in the light of a Darwinian model.

Augustine (of Hippo, AD 354-430): One of the most profound thinkers within the Church, he is the doctrinal authority on topics such as grace, freedom, history, time, and nature of man. He spent many of his years following conversion to the task of reconciling Christian dogma, reason, and faith within a Platonic intellectual framework. From Plato, he took the concept of ideal forms and applied that ideal to his concept of the Almighty by concluding that God is responsible for every effect within the universe. (Otherwise, Augustine concluded, He would not be Almighty!) This radical contingency of God on everything that happens in the universe results in a profound controversy concerning the nature of evil: if God is Almighty, then He is also responsible for every evil act. In our day, this Platonic concept is confronted by warfare theology, whose proponents claim that the Earth and its inhabitants are engaged in actual warfare with satanic forces that God has allowed to coexist within a level playing field contest (the central idea in the book of Job).

autogenesis: The progression of life forms from simple to complex. Increasing complexity is a mandatory requirement for the Darwinian alternative creation model. This required progression is assumed to be observed via a circular argument that states, early life forms were simple; modern life forms are complex. Therefore, because Darwinism is true (i.e., molecules-to-man is true), it follows that autogenesis has been the means that nature employed to achieve complexity. The actual mechanism that would cause this progression has never been demonstrated, nor have the genetic structures identified that allow new growth in complexity to be included in the genome.

big bang: The concept that all space-time (including all space, time, matter, and energy) was created in an instant, within a volume that may have been vanishingly small but then subsequently expanded to fill the observable universe. In the naturalist model, the expansion is not like the explosion of, say, a hand grenade. Rather, it is modeled as the simultaneous expansion of space itself, causing galaxies to move away from each other as space expands. This model requires the presence of a 'Space Generating Mechanism', a mechanism that remains undiscovered, although it is apparently in full operation to this day. In later discussion, this volume presents arguments in support of the 'hand grenade' model in which galaxies themselves are moving through a fixed space. In 1998 it was learned that the expansion rate of the universe has been accelerating for the last 5 billion years. Therefore, the universe will never collapse back on itself. We are forced to conclude that the big bang was a unique event never to be repeated. Many of the fundamental parameters of the universe have been determined recently by means of the latest satellite technology. These results are included in the text.

big crunch: The concept that if the mass of the universe exceeds its critical value, gravity will eventually overcome the expansion effects of the universe. The supremacy of gravity then leads to a total compression and collapse of all galaxies back into the original vanishingly small volume. Philosophically, this action provides the basis for a recurring big bounce so that the universe replicates the Hindu concept of cycles.

big rip: The discovery, in 1998, that the universe is actually increasing its rate of expansion and has done so for the last 5 or 6 billion years, which will cause everything to rip apart. The important concept is that the universe experienced a one-time creative event and never will collapse. The philosophical importance of this discovery resides in its implication of purpose, a concept that has no residence within the Darwinian model. If the separation rate continues to grow, light emitted now from distant (and neighboring) galaxies will never reach the Earth; ultimately, even atoms would be pulled apart. This forms the basis of the term.

biological big bang: Involves the concept that just as the inanimate universe experienced a BB, all life forms, grouped into kinds, also experienced a beginning. Then the effects of adaptation worked to produce speciation. The BBB is supported by knowledge that cellular design consists of a region external to the nucleus consisting of mitochondria and whose entities lack the extensive mutation-detection and correction machinery of the nucleus. Therefore, mutations appearing in the mitochondrial portion of the cell (denoted as mtDNA) are passed along generationally. This information could form the basis of an age dating scheme for that species provided that the original mutation level can be determined and the mutation rate can be established. However, serious errors occur in this data if the Earth has experienced significant environmental changes that engage the mtDNA processes or if the data for one created life form is applied to another evolved life form.

calendar: Within the realm of space-time, the processes of cause and effect take place within the dimension of time. Time is measured on a daily basis by means of a calendar. Because the Earth rotates an extra ¼ turn each year, all calendars require correction or calendation. It is instructive to note that all biblical references to dates and times are made with regard to a lunar calendar (see octaëteris). The lunar calendar employed in this text clearly indicates that events within the history of national Israel occurred as multiples of 70 years or 70 heptads (see heptads).

celestial equator: By assuming that the Earth is modeled as though located within a giant sphere, the extension of the Earth's equator out to the celestial sphere creates a celestial equator. The celestial equator is tilted 23.4° with respect to the plane of the Earth's rotation (the ecliptic plane).

chronology: Cataloging the successive sequence of events, especially concerning the interval of time between events, a specific branch of history wherein time is a primary consideration. The detailed chronology presented in this book allows the reader to infer the transcendent nature of the Bible and thus, our own existence.

Church: Two manifestations of the Church have been revealed in the Bible: the first form was implemented on Pentecost Sunday (in Acts 2). This form of the Church was restricted to Abraham's lineage, but also contained certain other OT saints also; a partial list is provided in Hebrews 11 (the list begins with pre-Abrahamic persons including Adam, Enoch, Noah, etc.). To this group was added the OT personages that appealed to God for His mercy and not the works of the Law. Also added were those of Abraham's line that accepted the Messianic claims of Jesus---the Apostles and others, including 3000 on the day of Pentecost. The total membership formed the Israel of God because those members consisted of Spiritual Israel, a restricted set of Abraham's descendants who attained
