G. Washington Slept Here: A Sleepy Hollow Local History

About this ebook
A number of us who grew up in Sleepy Hollow or Tarrytown, N.Y., like to recall our coming-of-age through a celebration of our beloved local merchants; hence, my "eBooklet's" subtitle: "The Merchants of Main Street." Sleepy Hollow has become well-known this century as a center for the observance of Halloween. It had first become famous much earlier, of course, some time after Washington Irving published his story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." But what about our first families, those having had a presence here for generations? Get ready for a slice-of-life in North Tarrytown in the second half of the last century. (This village of ours has, by now, taken back its Colonial name, Sleepy Hollow, and has been known as such for the last 25 years.) Furthermore, over a dozen relevant period photos (as well as links to media clips) are available for your viewing pleasure. For more information on this supplemental material, just click on the "Website" link in the center of my Smashwords profile page. Also included is a similar glimpse of everyday life--as we lived it in Tarrytown--Sleepy Hollow's neighboring sister-village.

Starting six years ago, and for about that long, I tutored Chinese students learning English online. (All of them already had some ability to speak English.) The process has made me rethink how I use English myself. My first book is one of the results of this one-time hobby of mine.
