About (ME) Donald
For my daughter,
Dimity,
Who likes Dragon Stories.
And
Suzi Oldfield
Who believes I have artistic talent as a writer,
And, who drew the cover photo for this story.
Also
Apologies to all Dimity’s friends
Whom I killed in great numbers.
Foreword
I do believe that accelerated climate change is anthropomorphic.
I also think that man will eventually go to the stars, not just his own solar system.
However, it will not be with conventional thrust engines.
Even new styles of thrust engines will take light years to our nearest stars.
At some stage, science will come up with revolutionary technology.
Unless we have wiped ourselves out as the Z’Nan almost did.
Money does not really benefit humanity unless the wealthy share it.
There are far too many vested interests out there fighting change.
Those companies embracing change will be the big winners.
Space is possibly infinite and getting bigger as it expands.
Can infinity get any bigger?
I wonder, will some other species eventually come here and find hints of great cities.
Read Ozymandius and consider.
Regarding this book.
I wrote this after I wrote 5 Short Stories.
My daughter, Dimity, said they were OK, but she liked Dragons.
So, I wrote this story for her.
I used a lot of her school friends’ names.
Kind of reminiscent of the great wars
Whole generations killed in their millions
The desperate times of the British during the Battle of Britain.
So, Read on.
I hope you like it.

The Foretelling of THOR.
Before the Friends, Dragons could not speak so to each other as they did after the Friends came, and gave the gift. The Friends came, and they were the Z’Nan. At first we were all frightened of the great things in the sky.
But they did us no harm, and I became curious. I was most surprised to understand that they meant no harm, and that they thought us most wonderful.
As I spent more time near them, and then with them, I understood them better and better. I began to comprehend things I had never thought of before. The called our kind Dr’Gon. They helped me learn ‘names’.
Before the Friends, Dr’Gons knew each other by sight, sound and smell. After, we knew each other by the thoughts in our minds.
And eventually, I flew with a Friend on my neck. It was wonderful. The emotions of my rider filled my mind, and my emotions gave him great joy.
Eventually, I could share my gift of thought with all other Dr’Gons, and All Dr’Gons shared flight with the Friends.
But with knowledge came fear. A smaller kind of being came among the Z’Nan. The Z’Nan greatly admired this one, who was much smaller than the Friends.
He was called H’Lar, and was a traveller of the vast skies. Also, he travelled amongst the ‘Now’, ‘What Was’ and "What Will Be.’ His thoughts were odd, and his manner both sad and happy. And he said this to me;
Your kind will cherish a long and wonderful friendship with the Z’Nan, but it will pass, as all things do. After this time of great and wonderful friendship will come a time of sorrow. Another kind will come that hunts and eats you, and many will die. Because of the gift, you will feel them die. This time will be called the sad times in the memories of your kind, but it too, will pass.
It will pass with the coming of a new kind, who will be similar to me, but not of my kind. I am the last of my kind. Among the new kind will be a small one, the smallest of them, almost a child. But this one finds your kind wonderful, as the Z’Nan did. This one will attain the gifts you have been given, and become fierce in protecting you. Twice this small one will rise against the hunters, and a Dr’Gon will breathe fire. It will cause her great pain, a burning, and she will think she will die for you, but she will endure it. And from that time on, the new kind will be forever friends, and protectors of your kind.
In honour of this moment, the Z’Nan named me ‘THOR’ and the world we lived on Pl’Thor’A
In the language of the Z’Nan, it means the ‘Place of Great THOR’. The name THOR refers to an old God of the new kind to come. This old god had a mighty hammer. The small child will use the gift, and become a hammer of the hunters. The name honours me also for being brave enough to overcome the fear of the Z’Nan, and earning the gift.
The Z’Nan and H’Lar told me I must share with all Dr’Gons, and this must be remembered forever. But, because of the harm taken by the small one, the Hammer of THOR, the full telling must be withheld until after the second event. Brave as the small one will be, the tasks undertaken will be frightful, and foreknowledge is forbidden by the one called H’Lar
But only after the second event, will the small one become known as Mol’Nir, Hammer of Thor.
From the writings of Dimity, as shared from the memories of Great Queen Lorr.

A Child Genius
In the year 2317, Child prodigy Ella-Maree Celeste Lundquist, produced a conceptual, and incredibly complex series of calculations for creating fields within which a craft could move faster than light. A ship created a field around it, and the field moved.
It was a complex formula that went far and beyond known scientific thinking about faster than light travel. She was 15 at the time. It took some of the world’s best scientists weeks, and masses of Programming time, for them to decipher the formula. Pages of it, in her hand writing. There were only about 5 Theoretical Physicists and or mathematicians in the world who could even begin to understand her.
She was one of those freak thinkers. At age 10, she had graduated at the top scientific colleges and universities of the world, with highest recorded distinctions in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and engineering. Almost as an afterthought, the next year she completed a 5 year course in Robotics, in 6 months.
At 7 she had read the standard books for graduating science students on Quantum Physics. Good Basic Stuff,
She had said, then asked about 50 questions that some of the world’s best scientists are still trying to answer.
When she was just 11 she developed a conceptual theory for an antigravity device. By almost 13, this had become a reality, and was in widespread production. It was powered by a miniature thorium reactor that maintained a strong magnetic polariser. It was revolutionary. The anti grav pod became the opposite polarity to earth, and could use this opposite force to hover. Angling the field Magnetoronics allowed quite fast speeds in earth’s orbits. It changed flight systems around the world. And also in near space.
Her IQ has been left at undeterminable. The quizzes bored her. She just looked, blinked, rattled of the answer and said Next
. She routinely did complex equations in her head, faster than people could enter them into the best scientific calculators.
She was most annoyed at her peers, most 20 or 30 years older, when they said she was giving them headaches trying to understand her. But it is all so simple,
she would say, and then rattle off her theorems, filling an E screen with Constants and equations. But what are these Constants?
some would ask. This produced an entirely new equation that explained the value of that Constant. As she was so gifted, almost everything she ever wrote or produced and explained was filmed and recorded.
This would give the scientific community centuries of study. She regularly came up with ideas and radical formulae. And as soon as she had explained it on the E screen and it was recorded, she was done with it, and thinking about something new and interesting.
Her mind just never stopped. Sometimes she worked nonstop, 18 or 20 hours a day, filling copious quantities of note books, and waste paper baskets, with new and interesting, to her, ideas and formula. A behavioural scientist described her once, as an acute high achieving mind, without the narrow focus on ability that is often associated with such super high achievers.
In short, on any given subject, Ella could focus, and learn what was known, and after assimilating the known knowledge, produce either refinements, or absolutely amazing new thinking. She sometimes said she wondered what the fuss was about. Wasn’t it obvious?
The theorem on the spatial fields, as she called them, wormholes and faster than light travel galvanised the scientific community. The excesses of the 20th, 21st and 22nd century had led to massive planet warming, and a spiralling system of climatic disasters. Savage winters followed by blistering summers. Massive droughts broken by horrendous floods. And the seas had risen. Lordy, how they had risen.
A documentary aired on Australia’s SBS in May 2005 had shown a similar event, linked to massive volcanic eruptions in Russia, at the end of the Cambrian period. The fossil record showed the greatest number of extinctions ever recorded, up until the modern days. And the extinctions of the 20th and 21st centuries began to rank as great as or greater than those of the fossil records.
In the year 2010 scientists estimated 40 to 50% of the known volume of species on the planet had become depleted, unable to reproduce in the wild. By the year 2300, many species were only just kept alive in expensive climate controlled underground zoos. And the DNA pool of these few survivors was very narrow.
Vested interests associated with, and funded by numerous financial entities had decried and downplayed these warnings, and the excessive carbon build ups continued. The carbon depositions listed by National Geographic in June 2010, on the Greenland ice sheet, and world scientific warnings on growing CO2 levels in the oceans were also ignored.
Many governments had politicians funded, bribed or otherwise owned by massive corporations, and these politicians fought to deny changes to the system, as it became called. One fool even declared that Coal was good for humanity.
History only records that stupid statement about him. His country strove hard afterwards to undo his damage. He is suitably lost to Time, although the damage remains.
The weak carbolic acid solutions this created caused later disastrous consequences for all shellfish species and corals. Corals bleached in warmer and warmer temperatures. Habitats crumbled, and the world’s fish stocks plummeted.
Still, the worlds media, owned by people later seen as severely influenced by sensational reporting of the wealthy funded decriers, continued the line that it was simply normal climate change.
Disaster after disaster had caused massive famines in Africa. Then, other struggling countries had received monstrous monsoons. In some of the low-lying areas, hundreds of millions had died. The Asian sub-continent had not fared much better. A new category of Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones had to be introduced. Killer systems of Rating 7 were not so uncommon now.
The El Nino effects became larger and larger. Areas used to very small rainfall per annum received decade’s worth of rain in a matter of days. Whole communities died in mudslides. Nothing was left behind.
Those countries who relied on winter snows to germinate crops planted in the late autumn suffered severe food shortages when snows failed. Those relying on winter snows for water in catchments in spring suffered critical shortfalls and droughts. Russia, Canada and the USA, as well as parts of then Europe and Great Britain, all suffered food shortfalls. For a time, data was not available from China, but eventually, they also reported crop losses in areas with annual snowfall irrigation systems.
In other places, unseasonal weather patterns brought torrential flooding rain when grain crops could be harvested, if the bees had survived.
At times, high temperature spikes had caused massive bee deaths in areas. In some places, hand pollination was the desperate measure required to ensure a fruit crop.
In crazy situations, summer areas received bizarre summer cold snaps, destroying crops, and then milder than normal winters. Food producers complained of abnormal patterns that defied planting predictions.
The world’s armies became the world rescue teams. Military leaders conferred. There was now, no way that any of them could have warred, even if they wanted to. Finally the accord of 2095 brought the end of any fossil fuel use, and this included wars. All vehicles were powered either by miniature thorium reactors, Hydrogen fuel cells or Electricity. The build-up of disasters brought massive disease outbreaks, in even the developed countries. The third world nearly ceased to exist. Every country’s disaster management system was so hampered that rebuilding from one horrendous storm was often barely started, then another system stretched the resources. The low lying areas of the Ganges delta were permanently evacuated, because of rising seas and massive storm surges.
The banks of the world were unanimously nationalised, and governments simply printed what money was needed. It would have been crippling to do it any other way. For many, the banks had caused much of the problems. Funding the carbon energy greed, to make more profits.
The rising seas had turned Australia into two separate island states. The former Northern Territory and South Australia became mostly shallow oceans. The fifth recorded inland sea of Australia, where large sea creature fossils have been found. Western Australia became a much reduced state, and the East coast states of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria became, became the much reduced state of Eastern Australia. What had been a food bowl for the world, now struggled to feed itself.
Every summer, the warm shallow sea spawned, on average, a category 5 Cyclone. Every 3 to 5 years, in hotter years, a category 7 system emerged. People lived on high ground, in underground shelters. Life was hard for the 2 million Australians. But it was harder for America.
Tornadoes came every season, in far greater numbers, and the worst were over 35 kilometres wide. They left nothing above ground behind. Even the great cities crumbled. Old brick buildings fell apart, and the resulting sideways toppling destroyed some much more modern constructions.
Like Australia, Most Americans lived in reinforced underground shelters. And the storms that brought the tornadoes appeared further north and south than usual, and went further east and west.
The winter blizzards destroyed electrical grids. The Government nationalised the entire electrical grid and the above ground super high voltage transmission lines had to be laboriously brought underground in the worst areas. Some of the snowstorms had been so heavy that many houses collapsed. But in other areas the snows failed and drinking water supplies dwindled.

The Healer and the Elders
The United Nations had been seen by many to be controlled by a handful of powerful bickering nations controlled by banks. In 2112 a major portion of the world resigned and formed the World Council of Elders. This mainly came about because of a computer virus called Chameleon, which had been lying mostly dormant in the worlds’ information and military or government systems.
In 2100 it systematically shut down and deleted the worlds’ government and military systems, including documents stored on everyday citizens’ personal systems, while at the same time, releasing detailed information regarding various world government actions meant to destabilise governments not co-operating with a series of agendas controlled by the worlds’ largest banks.
People rioted in the hundreds of millions worldwide. Major political parties were annihilated at elections, and many countries resigned from NATO, in Europe, and the United Nations. Many countries experienced turbulent times, but most began the long road to self-determination quite well. Military Information Technicians were stumped. All they could ever get from their computers was music. Nothing they entered was accepted. When an attempt to reformat a computer was initiated, the Boston Pops Orchestra played the theme music from the TV series, ‘Hawaii Five Oh’, at deafening volumes.
The countries who joined the World Council of Elders refused to allow any United Nations teams into their countries, created new currencies and began their own rebuilding plans. Some of these nations were resource rich and the world needed them.
Gradually, the world joined the council of Elders. It did away with the Security Council concept. There was one nation, one vote. And a majority vote carried the motions raised.
The role of chairperson was voted on annually and all members could nominate. The country that had the role of chairperson lost its vote while they retained chair personage. A neutral chairperson.
The world Council of Elders came to the conclusion that unless the catastrophes stopped, the world as they had known it would keep shrinking, and that the two billion earthlings faced catastrophic systems collapse, and annihilation. At its peak, world population had been approximately 10 billion, but the ongoing collapse of systems saw starvation claim billions. For some historians, it would later be called the centuries of ‘Disasters, Famine and Death’
And then Ella-Maree produced her formula.
The elders considered. It was a scene of intense discussion. So much work was needed for struggling communities. Many did not want to shift focus from many already stretched programs. In the midst of discussion there was an interruption.
A strange noise was heard, and an odd blue box appeared. Just appeared! In plain view in the centre of the room. About 1.5 metres square and about 2.5 metres tall. And a man came out of it.
Someone was calling for security already, and many had begun edging towards exit doors, when the man began to speak. Strangely, later, all said he spoke their own language.
Hello. Among your various peoples I am called The Healer. I have just come to witness this historic decision you make today. The day mankind begins to plan the real colonisation of space.
The chairperson, Lesotho Birruds Gurang called out. The Healer! But you are a myth from 300 years ago!
The Healer replied, "300 years? Well, I have been busy here and there. But
