    Surfing Rainbows - Eric Rabin

Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary…Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn’t, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere; but one has a heart, the other doesn’t. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you.

    Introduction

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

    —Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Let’s begin this beautiful journey together with an insight I had a few days back home from the Amazon jungle. While meditating, I came to a realization about lucid dreaming—a practice or technique I’ve coveted for quite some time but have repeatedly failed to execute. In theory, it works like this: While lucid, you’re immersed in a dream, with the full realization that you’re in a dream, and so you then have the capacity to steer, shape, or even completely transform the unfolding components of the dream.

My realization—a sudden thunderbolt that shook the pillars of my knowledge base—was that the so-called human reality or everyday experience is the actual dream. And in turn, we can wield this insight and say to ourselves, Okay, this realm of matter—defined by my senses, and which I’ve been conditioned to believe is either all there is to this existence, or at minimum is the main thrust of what’s going on—this is the actual dream, the unreality, if you will. Then we can use this insight to tweak or even alter completely the dream, now rendered lucid" by our realization.

    Now comes the tricky part.

Okay, so my everyday life experiences may be the unreality, but now what? I still have to work and pay my bills and wash dishes and deal with the occasional flu or sprained ankle. We’ll revisit that question in a bit. But for now, realize the most important piece of the puzzle is this: You are asleep inside your life, the one which you now know is a dream—the illusion, the matrix—and that the real or actual world is beyond the realm of the senses.

So what’s the real world like, you ask? Now we’re looking beyond the senses, past the world of matter, separation, duality (where you and I are two different entities), locality (you and I and the tree over there are separated by space), and we enter into the quantum realm, where everything is energy, vibration, frequency, consciousness, thought, information—and all is interconnected. This isn’t my opinion or insight—this is science. Quantum physics. Proven. Tested. Substantiated.

What does all this have to do with healing, renewal, spiritual transformation, sublime joy, connection, gratitude, happiness, let alone surfing rainbows? Be patient…we’re getting there.

The material world (or world of matter) and the quantum realm are not only vastly different, but also operate by different rules and laws. The first operates by Newtonian or classical physics, in which we can predict with certainty the cause and effect and flow of events. At the atomic (and subatomic) level, however—the quantum realm—subatomic particles operate quite differently and are governed by a completely different set of rules and laws.

Here is the unpredictable, immaterial realm of information, vibration, energy, and frequency…and classical physics doesn’t apply. This, incidentally, is what gave Einstein, one of the greatest minds in Earth’s history, headaches and fits of hysteria. In the quantum realm, there is no separation, no duality, no locality—there’s just an invisible field of energy, vibration, frequency, information, consciousness—in which everything…it bears repeating…EVERYTHING is interconnected, and time and distance are irrelevant. Past, present, and future all flow into one another, and are all one continuous, generous present moment. All there ever was, is, and will be (though the will be still has wiggle room) is embedded seamlessly into this mystifying field. And we can learn to access it. If we know the rules and laws. And its keys to manifesting virtually anything in this brief flesh-and-blood-based existence.

Back to lucid dreaming. You’re asleep, in your bed, under the covers—your brain in a delta-wave state—and find yourself in a dream. You know it’s a dream because you’ve studied lucid dreaming, practiced the techniques, and know the signs to look for. You notice your hands are wavy and misshapen, as are the walls and clocks. Colors flow into one another in strange, dreamy ways. You look for a car. A Ferrari hopefully, but really any car with a little get-up will do. You run around the corner and there it is, a shiny new red Ferrari. You hop in and start her up. She both purrs and growls like a jungle cat. You hit the highway, which suddenly unfurls before you as a silky black ribbon designed for this very vehicle. In the blink of an eye, you’ve already passed 220 mph and carve turns like you’re on rails. You decide it’s time to share some pizza with a beautiful woman (this is my dream, but feel free to choose your own details), so you slam on the brakes and leap angel-like from the car into a padded chair in an Italian cafe, your dream girl staring lovingly into your eyes. And the pizza right out of the oven is…

Okay, so you’ve mastered the art of lucid dreaming. Well, Mr. Rabin—smarty-pants—if this 3D material world I wake up to every day is also a lucid dream of sorts, then why can’t I just hop in a Ferrari and drive 220 mph without a concern for my life? Or jump off a mountain and soar like an eagle across the landscape below?

Because the 3D realm of matter operates by different rules and laws than the in-my-bed-under-the-covers-delta-wave-sleep state. And why should this be surprising? After all, Newtonian or classical physics don’t apply to the quantum realm, which also operates by its own set of rules and laws, far different than those of the 3D material realm.

In this awakened state, in the 3D realm of matter and separation, the realm of the senses, the rules of the delta-wave sleep dreamscape don’t apply. This means you can’t just drive safely at 220 mph or jump off a mountain and expect to fly. Different rules here. Well didn’t I also just suggest that in this very 3D realm, you can manifest virtually anything? Why not flying off a mountain? Because first the manifestation has to respect the rules and laws of this realm, where again Newtonian or classical physics appear to dominate. Your Ferrari will likely end up a fiery heap of gnarled metal and rubber. Nor can you leap off a mountain and soar (like you can in a lucid dream, with different rules and laws) and expect to live longer than the few seconds it takes for you to hit the ground.

But let’s shift perspectives for a moment. Flip it. In this 3D realm of matter and time and separation, defined by our senses and governed by classical physics, we CAN do things you perhaps cannot do in the lying-in-bed-under-the-covers-delta-wave lucid dreaming state. In this new lucid dream state, now awakened with knowledge that this reality is anything but, we can heal spontaneously or manifest our worldly desires…all by harnessing the powers of the mind, accessing the quantum realm, and using gratitude as the golden key to unlock the doors to all possibilities.

We’re granted other beautiful cosmic gifts too, other apparent loopholes, to help us shape this 3D physical existence. We can connect with Source, divine spirits, ancestral spirits, animal spirits, ascended masters, and other entities inhabiting higher realms and dimensions, and then ask for and receive guidance, support, protection, information, and assistance in manifesting our dreams here on Earth. Seems almost made-up, but the laws and rules of this realm—again the earthly, 3D world of material defined by our senses—apparently allow us this loophole, this life hack, if you will.

Side note: These things mentioned above don’t stem from just my view of the nature of existence or my opinion. As we’ll explore in the following pages, these things are now widely and increasingly accepted as fact. The Cosmic Game by Stanislov Grof is a best-selling book by a highly-respected psychiatrist and expert researcher of non-ordinary states for some fifty-plus years. Grof’s work will doubtlessly transform the way you view life, and it’ll be cited time and again to support and underscore all topics discussed here in Surfing Rainbows. So, I invite you to fully open your heart and mind to concepts that might seem alien to you, or even ludicrous or fanciful. Once you peek behind the curtain, you’ll get to glimpse the magic on the other side.

Okay, speaking of curtains, let’s get back to how we might pierce the veil of illusion and see the true nature of reality…

How does one learn to master the laws of this illusory realm, this matrix? As others before me have learned the secrets of delta-wave lucid dreaming, and now know how to dream-hack their way to soaring like an eagle over snow-capped mountains, I’ve been taught the life hacks (mainly by Dr. Joe Dispenza, Stan Grof, Nassim Haramein, and then ayahuasca/Mother Aya) for lucid dreaming in the 3D realm. Here, lucid dreaming is nothing more than a technique you learn, practice, master, and then apply—a trained skill, in other words, just like the master lucid-dreamers of the head-on-the-pillow-with-eyes-closed delta-wave state.

Let’s bring in Joe Dispenza for a moment. A chiropractor by trade, Ironman triathlete, and now world-renowned neuroscientist and best-selling author, Dr. Joe is a master of everything quantum. His books and podcasts help set off the chain reaction that would transform my own life forever. Depressed and suicidal, I drank in every word, every concept, every lesson. I incorporated his meditations into my daily routine, sometimes sitting half-lotus on my mat three, four, eight times a day. I knew, intuitively, he was the alchemist holding the golden keys that would open all the doors for me, his science-backed, life-altering fairy dust sprinkling over my mind, body, spirit and soul.

Dr. Joe helped lead me to ayahuasca—the magical and transformational plant brew from the Amazon jungle in South America—and then to the person I am today, boundlessly joyful and radiant, with seemingly unlimited access to all the knowledge, wisdom, and secrets to the universe; and with the remarkable ability to surf rainbows.

And the rest, as they say, is history…

    Chapter 1

    Surfing Rainbows

At first I just thought the emojis were fun to look at. A cool looking, three-millimeter long dude in swim shorts, surfing perfect arcs of prismatic light. I’ve been an athlete all my life, and strong swimmer—a lifeguard, in fact—but I’ve never surfed a single wave. Well, at least not on water…

Growing up near the coast in the northeastern US, home to the Atlantic Ocean, I had never even seen a surfer. The water is warmer sure, but much less wavy and lacks anything close to the surf culture of California, my home for the last sixteen-plus years. I even lived on the beach in Miami back in my twenties, never once having even glimpsed a paddleboarder, let alone surfer. For those interested, to me Miami Beach is a place to visit, to unwind, and indulge on vacation. Living there among all the glitz and glamour and shallowness and fancy cars and Prada this and Gucci that—it’s a bit much.

Anyway, back to surfing. Or, in my case, non-surfing. Until…

Drinking ayahuasca is generally a profound experience. No two sessions are ever the same, and often they’re vastly different, one from the next. Having said that, the quantum space you enter while on the medicine may include water, or just waves of energy, pulsing, spinning, flowing. And for the initiate, colors may be rare or fleeting. For some (those in my opinion who haven’t yet opened or activated their third eye, their pineal gland, or the portals to the limitless possibilities of aya, or life for that matter), multiple ceremonies might yield only scattered insights, messages, and some fleeting visions.

But that’s not the case for most. Especially when guided properly, and with the right medicine, the right locale, a well-run and cleansed and protected medicine space and ceremonial experience, with expert facilitators and the like. For most, colors will appear vivid and swirly, or artful mandalas, geometric shapes or fractals might sail by, hovering in their conscious awareness.

And then there are other levels. Next levels. Astonishingly transcendent and breathtakingly gorgeous levels. This can take time, experience, and some focus on mind/body/spirit mastery, along with the proper breath work, grounding techniques, and the like. These next levels pulsate and swim across with tidal waves of cosmic energy. These next levels are saturated with full spectrums of luminous color, dripping with resplendent, awesome beauty, and yes, often rainbows. They may appear in swirls. Or waves. Or infinity signs. Or…in arcs like an actual rainbow. And if you can navigate the space adroitly, then you in fact can find yourself losing all memory of the fold-out mat beneath you or that a ceremony is even taking place at all, merely enveloped by these swirling, flowing, wave-like energies, be they red, blue, teal, fuchsia, and yes…sometimes rainbow-splashed.

You might feel like you’re floating, diving, gliding, soaring, worm-holing, warp-speeding, spaceship-rocketing…and this is where our (hopefully you agree) lovely, apt little metaphor comes in. Surfing rainbows. Dozens and dozens of times in recent months (before ever considering it a title for this book) I’ve
