POETRY PASSAGES FROM LIFE - HEATHER BLACKSTOCK
APPEASEMENT
The local constable at Bungendore
was the person to seek,
He attended to legalities and
discontent every week.
Revealed how discernible
he was always at hand,
Ready to help those agitated
who did not understand.
Constable Matt’s loyalty to
keeper of peace and Cloth,
His unique talent was displayed
when dismantling wroth.
He forbade his wife to watch
via the jail-house door,
As frequent actions of angst
was too often raw.
So she became an invisible
observer ever so keen,
Through the keyhole she peeped
so as not to be seen.
The comings and goings of
town folk were amusing,
She saw a couple pushing each other,
loudly abusing.
Cursing and swearing and
lurching with rage,
Gesturing with fingers not
meant for this page.
Letting lose their temper
demonstrating with agility,
Until Constable Matt communicated
with ability.
Caught in a web of heated
moments and tension,
Warned if kept fighting they’d
be held in detention.
Angry in turmoil,
weighed down in a rift.
You know hope is born
in the soul as a gift ,
Love can dispel hate,
you do understand.
Love is the language
that everyone knows.
Now treasure each other
before daylight goes.
Love not hate works
wondrously strange.
There’s nothing in life
that love cannot change.
He said, "Now be quiet!
No more bellowing out,
The facts here are relevant
of what it’s about.
You see, life on earth is
but a fleeting affair,
Each year’s getting shorter
with no time to spare.
I see you are both restless
husband and wife,
Divided by hate in love
once promised for life.
Distorts ones perception
of a humanly gift,
Like earth’s formula:
a blend of sunshine and rain,
There’s laughter and teardrops
gladness and pain.
Where there is love there is
quietness and peace.
Hand in hand now, trot home
let all quarrels cease."
