About this ebook
Largely told through techniques of metaphor and symbolism, this work of creative non-fiction, a work of literary narrative, might be more colorfully classified as “Texas Gothic”: a boot stompin’ trek through a time in Texas where an occasional burr under the saddle was expected, if not overtly sought … a time when life&r
Davis Griffith-Cox
Scion of a family who came to Texas before the days of the Republic, Davis is a fifth generation Texan who grew up at Griffith Homeplace with family stories of famous pioneer citizens of Texas told as often as if they were the neighbors next door. His Great Great-Grand-father was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. His Great Grandfather, Dr. Griffith, was a close friend of Sam Houston, who was his first patient upon Griffith's arrival in Texas. He speaks of himself as just an ole country boy from East Texas, but Professor Griffith-Cox has traveled the world, both living and studying abroad for several years. He has dined with Governors, the President of the United States, and the Queen of England, at their personal invitation and at times serving as personal consultant, and has been the house guest of movie stars. This ole country boy served as professor and division chair-man at several universities, teaching painting, sculpture (he has degrees in both), anatomy, architectural design, and as head of an art school. He is a restoration specialist, historian, and public speaker, and has written three books. Having served on several boards of directors, he is founder and current President and CEO of Griffith Homeplace Museum and The Historic Griffith Collection.
