STRENGTH OF A NATION
The secret strength of a nation is found in the faith that abides in the hearts and homes of the country.

FOREWORD
Martin Capages Jr., PhD is an American Patriot of the original kind, a firm believer in the inherent moral truth and justice embedded in the American Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and Constitution. Dr. Capages is a veteran, a successful engineer, a self-made man through the all-American quality of creativity and hard work. As opposed to much of the East and West coasts, Humanities Academia, Mass Media, Hollywood, and in the established governmental power structure, most people in the American Heartland know that we live in a great country, great because of the goodness flowing from our original understanding of unalienable God-given human value and human rights, secured by equality before the law.
Like myself, and millions of ordinary patriotic Americans, Dr. Capages has become aware of something rotten in America. The stench is unmistakable; it is the disgusting smell of tyranny, which in every case throughout human history has boiled down to inequality before the law, where some are more equal than others. Today that un-American idea is embodied in either Marxist or Fascist forms of collectivist socialism, both imported from Europe, now fundamentally transforming and poisoning our country, a political and legal infection which must be soon cured or the America we have known and loved since childhood will perish from the earth.
A self-serving class of Socialists has arisen among us, men and women who, like Medieval Royalty, look down their noses at the little people
, the deplorables
of the American Heartland. They wish to do as they please with us and the product of our labor.
In our dream, we have limitless resources, and the people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hand.
Frederick T. Gates
This anti-American collectivist / socialist counter-revolution began in 1913 with the passage of the income tax and Federal Reserve amendments, followed soon thereafter by Federal Laws establishing Social Security (the New Deal) and Medicare. Retirement income and healthcare, worthy goals, are best provided by individuals through their own labor, through private charitable organizations, or via State government. Our Constitution does not give Federal Government any power in these areas, so the Federal Laws enabling them are in violation of Constitutional Law.
Dr. Capages and I believe there is a cure for what ails America, a peaceful process of Restoring the American Mind followed by Constitutional Amendment. In his new book, Heartland Rebellion, Dr. Capages outlines in detail the internal threats to our country, and ways to counter and defeat what amounts to a counter-revolution against our original American Revolution. Dr. Capages is calling for help, a call for all American Patriots, like our Forefathers before us, to defend the cause of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Core support is in the American Heartland, but we need more than that; we need American Patriots from the East and West coasts as well. Americans need to shake off the brainwashing embedded in our minds and peacefully overthrow the men and women who have perverted our Constitution without amending it, and who have undermined the Judeo-Christian moral foundation of America as eloquently expressed in our Declaration of Independence.

At some point in the not-to-distant future, non-Marxist historians will look back on the eight years of the Obama Administration, scratch their heads and sigh, What were they thinking?
.
The first indication of the Obama Administration’s flawed logic came during the 2008 Presidential campaign when Candidate Obama, referencing the coal industry, said something to the effect of, Well, they can build more coal plants but, they will go bankrupt
. While the industry leaders ignored that threat, the miners, being mostly Democrats by tradition, voted for Obama and the destruction of their own livelihood. Go figure.
Also, during that campaign, Candidate Obama was caught making this revealing statement of his distain for the Heartland: You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are ‘gonna’ regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
That guns and religion
comment should have doomed his campaign for the Heartland vote. He also called the Heartland bigots
in a fairly direct way with his statement about their antipathy to people who aren’t like them . . .
Here was a Presidential Candidate who could have brought the Nation together. Instead, his campaign focused on shallow fear-mongering and further divided an already split nation: It was black versus white, rich versus poor, citizens versus immigrants, gay versus straight, gender versus gender, and transgenders versus everyone. Obama continues, America should be ashamed for its Western colonial role in World Events
. Colonial role? We were trying to export democracy because we thought it was a good thing. Who knew that the World didn’t want it?
Then there was the State of the Union Address where the Chief Executive said, Our biggest enemy is Climate Change, not terrorism
. He stated that the role of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration, NASA, was to recognize the contribution of Muslims to the world of Science and to begin an outreach to the Muslim Community. So much for America’s leadership in modern science, research and space exploration.
When I got back on the couch after that one, I decided to start writing to the local newspapers. I watched and wrote as the Obama Administration politicized the country’s IRS, FBI, the Justice Department and the Courts. It was insidious yet familiar. It’s what elitists-in-power do. It’s in their DNA. Something had to be done for the sake of the grandkids.
In July 2017, I published The Moral Case for American Freedom. This book was intended to be a set of Guidelines for Generation Z. The hope is that Generation Z would read the text, feel compelled to fight for American freedom, and subsequently place pressure on the the journalists of main-stream media to re-discover their code of ethics. This code of ethics was developed and promulgated by Walter Williams, Dean of School of Journalism at the University of Missouri (and subsequently University President.
Now, as we near mid-term elections, I felt called again to put pen to paper. The thrust of this book is twofold: first, to rally conservatives -- across the nation but specifically in The Heartland – and give them the tools to defeat the liberal cause in debate. The second is to restore ethics in journalistic reporting, beginning with college schools of journalism.
Unfortunately, the media has remained biased to the Left and focused on trivial matters. The ulterior mission of the main stream media seems to be to bring down an upstart new Administration and its Washington-outsider leader. A leader that has caught the imagination of the Heartland. Battle lines are being drawn.
The main stream media has been joined by the forces of Hollywood, the East Coast elites, the West Coast flakes, the Chicago Machine, K-Street, Academia, Trial Lawyers, and the Washington Swamp (which includes the Deep State), all under the banner of the Donkey. This is a formidable force arrayed against the Heartland and the outsider Leader they have selected, primarily for his brashness and apparent desire to live up to his promises. Will he be able to succeed or get stuck in the Swamp?
The new Leader’s weakness is not his executive skill. It is his driving need for people to respect him, to admire him, and to be loyal to him to a fault. He has rounded up his troops. Some failed immediately, but the inner core appears to be strong, smart and dedicated to restoring the luster of the Nation and the Heartland. The battle is now joined.

A vintage photo of a person Description generated with very high confidenceINTRODUCTION
A rebellion is an outward protest to a specific restriction, requirement, or ideology placed by a government or its leaders on a group of its citizens. A revolution calls for the complete abolition of the governing system as a whole, replacing it with something else. The United States had a revolution in its early history. Now the Nation is divided in its ideologies and facing a rebellion rising in its Heartland.
The United States of America was founded on the principle that individual freedom is the natural right of every citizen. (Madison, 1787) In the conservative Heartland of America, it is believed that this right is a gift from God, the Creator of all things and all people. It is a gift that rests in the American Spirit of Liberty for all, without coercive government interference. It is a belief that the role of government should be restricted to equally protecting the unalienable individual rights of a free people, defending the nation as a whole, and promoting a unified, rational and cost-effective government policy within the limits of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
On the more progressive east coast, west coast, the industrial Midwest and Washington DC, the predominate belief is that the right of individual freedom is derived from the State. It is bestowed by the State and can be rescinded by the State in accordance with the laws of the State. These laws are so complex that they must be administered by an elite hierarchy located in the seat of government and the courts. The original laws are deemed to be archaic and in need of revision to be fairer and to serve everyone equally. But, to do this, there must be some form of centralized administration which, unfortunately, requires bureaucrats. More bureaucrats means more opportunity for idealism and corruption.
A representative republic, which was the original charter of the Nation, requires that citizens be elected to represent their constituencies and the Nation as a whole in the legislative bodies of government. The charter was amended to make all branches be elected by the republic with the exception of the judicial branch. The original intent was for short but effective terms of office by the representatives. The founders of the Nation did not foresee a professional political class that gained power through repetitive terms of office. This happened primarily due to the neglect and disinterest of the citizenry in the administration of their own government. The professional political class developed its own rules of order which made newly elected legislators ineffective unless they caved into the platform of the established politicians. This has now led to increased bureaucracy, inefficiency and corruption. Obvious incompetence is ignored and then forgotten by the Press.
The founders also believed that a free press would serve as the final arbiter on the activities of government. However, this belief assumed that the press could not be bought or perverted by ideology; that it would remain free and fair. Over time, the press failed in its duty.
The rebellion in the Heartland against its loss of freedom has been percolating for more than a quarter of a century now. There have been parallels to previous events in the Nation’s history such as the Boston massacre, the Boston Tea Party and the Battle of Lexington (the election of 2016). The State of California is now creating new Charleston’s (Sanctuary cities) to test the Federal outpost of Fort Sumpter (President Trump and Attorney General Sessions).
Recent elections and political rhetoric seem to indicate that the dangers of socialism and communism have been forgotten. The students on the college and university campuses are doing what students seem to always do; join the latest, heart-pulling liberal cause. They are open to ideas that they are told are new and beneficial to all of humanity. They need to examine the sources of the information and research the results. The results are clear. Socialism always fails. Freedom lies in the individual spirit that resides in every human heart, placed there by the Creator of all things. It does not come from an overarching State. Democratic Socialism is the anti-thesis of Freedom and Liberty. There are strong emotions on both sides of this issue.
This begs the question; is a Civil War on the horizon? If so, will it be an irrational physical conflagration, as evidenced by the growing violence of protests in the street, or will it be a rational resolution of the dividing issues following the guidance laid down by the Founding Fathers of this great Nation? My hope is for the latter and is the intent of this book.
A DIVIDED NATION
CHAPTER 1. A DIVIDED NATION
The Nation is entering the 2018 mid-term elections divided on several issues. America’s cultural divide is not North versus South, but the blue coastal population centers versus the red suburbs and the lightly populated, red rural states. The Democratic party is hoping for a rejuvenated coalition, consisting of its base of minority voters, including millennials blinded by promises of utopian socialism, and independents with a naïve view of progressive socialism. They hope this blue wave
will protect the Leftist, anti-American legacy of President Barack Obama. The energy has been orchestrated by the enemies of America that, if they were about to be exposed, would take immediate action to have the main-stream press label this unfortunate exposure as merely the result of a far-Right conspiracy. But the Heartland Rebellion is not a far-Right conspiracy. It is a red tidal wave
created by the tsunami called the Tea Party movement. It is the patriotic Heartland versus the east and west coast liberal progressives and governing elitist class. It is the liberty and individual freedom of the Heartland versus the Democratic platform of secular progressive socialism.
Dr. Victor Davis Hanson (Hanson, The Confederate Mind, 2018) has likened today’s political situation to the events preceding the Civil War. But, before we get to his analogy, we need to define the key element of this book, The American Heartland.
THE AMERICAN HEARTLAND
The Heartland is not the land between the coasts or what elitists call flyover country.
It is not the red areas on the map that show the 2016 Presidential election results of the Electoral College or the popular vote in each county [or parish], though that may be a close, approximate representation of the Heartland. Most of the U. S. population resides on the coasts and the major metropolitan centers and includes the Heartland. Flyover Country is sparsely populated and represents only a small portion of the Heartland. The major portion of the Heartland resides in the small towns that are now suburbs of the metroplexes. The Heartlanders
are middle incomers, have their kids enrolled in public, faith-based or independent charter schools. Some even home-school their kids. Most are American citizens by birth, but their grandparents may have been immigrants. They practice their faith, coach basketball and soccer camps, watch little leaguers, football mighty-mites, and basketball. The more successful may even be members of a country club. Most of the Heartlanders work for someone else but there are some small business owners as well. They feel the effects of inflation and increasing gas prices. The local police and other first responders are heroes to Heartlanders. Very few participate in government public service. Their political leanings are based more on family tradition than on party platforms. But in 2006 they started paying attention when the political parties started to increase the role of government in their lives.
In 2008, the Nation grew weary of war and the Left blamed the conservative leadership. The citizens sought out and elected a different style of leadership. They wanted hope and change
. But government grew faster at the expense of the economy. Regulations exploded and the government took over healthcare with promises of lower costs and improved availability to all. The Heartland started to think that there was no common sense left in Washington. They were right.
The first stirring of a rebellion was the Tea Party Movement. While the majority of Tea Party participants were white, this was not by design. All were welcome, but the press muted the invitation. Dr. Hanson draws historical parallels to America’s Civil War in today’s circumstances. His analogy follows:
CALIFORNIA DREAMING
The map has changed, but the new mindset of the chauvinist, mutatis mutandis, is eerily the same. In blue-state doctrine, a sinking middle class in the interior deserves to fail. But an upscale hip and cool professional elite is properly thriving on the East and West Coasts as never before — itself often supported by legions of poorly paid and mostly minority gardeners, housekeepers, and nannies who free up their supposed betters to pursue higher things without tending to the drudgery of diapers, cooking, and mowing.
While California is home to some of the wealthiest people in the world, one-fifth of the west coast population lives below the poverty line, along with a third of the nation’s welfare recipients and half its homeless population.
Dr. Hanson continues, "Recently Hillary Clinton, in John C. Calhoun fashion, doubled down on her earlier condemnation of the ‘deplorables’ and ‘irredeemables’ by tying them to the red-state interior’s purportedly inferior cultural landscape. She laments, ‘If you look at the map of the United States, there is all that red in the middle, places where Trump won. I win
