    Summer

    The Word is Beautiful

    There are words, invisible threads

    slung between branches,

    they capture the changes,

    whisper to the trees,

find shelter in pools of mist.

    Wet leaves become light-brushes

for words to paint the shadows,

turn black and grey bright colour.

    Words are feathers, ephemeral,

long spikes of green and blue,

    the fragile reds and yellows,

    they make unruly chatter,

    gather in corners, swirl

    on the wing-beats of summer.

    Words unwrap their petals

offer complex perfume to the air,

blend notes of spice and fruit.

    Down twisting paths I find

a word to guide my way,

    the one to nourish life,

a word with power to heal,

the power to make me whole.

    The Runaway

    Beside the track

    a meadow blooms,

    sun sharp
