Semper Supra - Mike Lees
Chapter 1
Space, quite close to us
Admiral Am’trach proudly stood on the bridge of the Nor’tilous, the Super Dreadnaught, Flagship of the Cerulean fleet, as it swam through the black toward their next undertaking. His fleet had travelled through space for several months now, and the Captains on the other ships were reporting increasing unrest among the crews. It was time, time to conquer, to bleed and taste the inebriating joys of battle and drink the lusty blood of their enemies. He too was thirsty, greed to engage and decimate, to pillage and kill. This was their destiny and their life. To roam the spiral arm and seek the weak, to annihilate and stand upon the shores of the defeated. He licked his lips in anticipation.
Yet, time was telling, the high of their last engagement, a long lost luscious memory, was no longer able to fuel the hatred and anger that became each mighty warrior within their ranks. They needed something, and soon. He needed it too, like he needed air to breathe.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sensor operator, Admiral, Sir, I have a reading coming up on our starboard side. We have arrived at the target system, Sir. It has eight planets, one of which looks promising.
Show me.
Am’trach approached the screen and gave a sigh of satisfaction, At last. That third planet has certainly living creatures, a civilisation if we are lucky. Very well,
he turned to the navigation officer, Plot a course for that planet Mr Zu’lou, and inform me how long it will take. I will be in my stateroom,
then he turned to the communications officer, Inform Captain Ha’dok of our course change,
he said as he marched off the Bridge toward his room.
Several moments later Mr Zu’lou informed him it would take three days to reach the planet. Am’trach rubbed his hands in delight. At last, blood and battle! He thought to himself, not with a certain glee. Yet the Consortium of Governments plead for a more peaceful solution to civilisations who represent, or may soon, a risk to the Spiral Arm they were overseeing. More so to protect their hold on the systems within. Damn, he will have to conform and seek a solution. But maybe this new planet will give him rise to deploy his forces of destruction. If they were lucky.
The days passed quickly while the fleet was bubbling over in excitement and preparations. During that time, they also cumulated an impressive intelligence package on the civilisation living on the planet. The inhabitants called it Earth. A thorough evaluation of the enemies’ capabilities, both civil and military, were established and issued to all Captains of the Fleet, who then provided this intelligence to their divisions and services with the required deployment parameters. Primary, secondary and tertiary targets chosen and allotted to the corresponding fleet arms for execution upon the orders of the Admiral. The Cerulean fleet was poised to inflict total annihilation, swift, bloody and glorifying. The mood within the fleet was ecstatic, the preparations tactically perfect. Only the Admiral knew he’d have to use a bit of reserve.
Am’trach perused the readiness, and intelligence reports flowing into his office with deep, cold satisfaction. He felt the energy within his ship,
