My deep appreciation and thanks to John W. Henson for his astounding design and art for the cover of The Tale of Kathleen Laoghaire and for the stunning illustrations he provided for this book. Foreword
Paulette Kosak, what can one say, that she is talented,
that she is a gifted artist and writer. Yes she is all of
these things but she is so much more. she writes of an
age gone by, an age of the past as it should have been
but never was, or was it? you are never sure as you
become immersed in her words and drawn into her world.
She is a modern writer, yes! but her soul is old
she could easily be writing as a contemporary of Mallory
or Monmouth as they relate their tales of Arthur, a melding
of Lord Dunsany and Tennyson if you will.
'The Tale of Kathleen Laoghaire' is a classic example of her talent.
It is a roller coaster of emotion. The evil queen, Moraig, the
manipulator. Her amorous consort Garamonde an untrustworthy
lecher who's designs on the heroine are only too clear.
The brooding magnificent dragon Theron the embodiment of
malice dwelling on percieved wrongs inflicted on him in
times past. He carries a grudge and a thirst for revenge that makes
him blind to the fact that he is being used as a weapon of evil.
Into this maelstrom of ancient intrigue and hatred come the two
lovers Kathleen and Conall. Bound by their royal houses at birth,
they are now estranged by circumstances and know only, each
that the other carries a magical talisman of protection and that
when the two are joined, the magic of true love shall be theirs.
The tale is about this path to true love and an arduous one
it is. With evil and betrayal at every turn and a great proud
dragon to be fought.
At the root of this tale is a deep understanding. We all know
these characters in reality. The evil, manipulative one that will
do anything and resort to any form of trickery to get what they
want and bend others to their will. The lustful one that will not
take no for an answer. We all have our dragons to defeat,
conquering our inner fears to fight against the odds and how often
is a character involved that
