Chapter 1-The News
John Sebastian rose early that Monday morning, as he always did, anxious to get started on his week. The weekends were great but there was always so much to get back to at the office on Monday morning.
As he got dressed, he turned on the local news, as he always did, mostly, to hear the weather and early traffic report.
"The Jets owner, Woody Johnson, announced the firing of both the General Manager and the Head Coach," the sportscaster reported.
"Big Shock," John Sebastian thought to himself. He loved the Head Coach but after a 4-12 season what could anyone expect?
"We interrupt this broadcast for a Special Report! a non-descript announcer informed, as the broadcast cut away from the regular Sports report.
We have a breaking report of the body of an unnamed New York City, Rikers Island Correction Officer being found dead, in what appears to be an apparent homicide. No other information has been released by the New York City Corrections Department or the New York City Police Department at this time. Information from the public is requested."
"Wow, John said under his breath.
Probably deserved it, the cocksucker. His wife probably got tired of him beating on her." He paused and day dreamed for a second before shaking it off and getting back to the business at hand; getting ready to go to work.
John finished dressing, kissed his sleeping wife and kids on the head, grabbed his coffee, and headed off to start his day, not giving a second thought to the murdered Correction Officer.
