    Gael Steele calls herself a Witch Queen.

    She believes Watertown's Thompson Park is home to a vortex, a passage into an alternate reality.

    Somewhere over there in that veil of trees, there's a place where people disappear, she said.

    There's been a longtime urban legend about this vortex in the park with strange happenings and there's been a lot of interest in the paranormal in Watertown, said Watertown Mayor Jeff Graham.

    Since the park opened in 1905, there have been tales of people disappearing, strange apparitions, noises - and of course the vortex.

    It's not hocus pocus. It's scientific, said Steele.

    So now the city is dedicating a sign marking Watertown's Area 51.

    It's an idea stemming from Area 51 in Nevada, which was code named Watertown years ago in honor of then-CIA Director and Watertown native Allen Dulles.
