    Prologue

    Ithaca backed away passively from the would-be brigands, arms away from her sides in a placating manner.

    You haven't anything in the hold? Their leader stared at her incredulously.

    Well, you caught us on an off day, She said with a huff. The pique in her voice wasn't entirely faked. Do you know how hard it is to be a pirate these days?

    He gave her a blank look.

    Well, obviously you do, She continued. I mean look at you; you've resorted to waylaying another pirate ship. How much lower can it get?

    There is a bit of poetic irony to it, Harvey added mildly. He was leaning a negligent arm against the helm. He was also watching her, interpreting her babbling as a distraction so she could think up a plan. As usual, he interpreted correctly.

    I do suppose, She agreed. But truly, is there no honor among thieves anymore? She cringed as said thieves swept her coffee percolator off the desk and it crashed to the floor. Steady on! Was that really necessary?

    She almost missed Pip peaking around the rim of the door. She flicked her fingers at the girl in a wait command, then glanced back at Harvey. He'd noticed her too.

    Easy Cap'n, at least it's not the good one from the Gov'nor.

    A few more hand flicks, disguised as nervous flutters, and they were in accord.

    She frowned at the coffee pot. I hadn't even noticed. Why aren't we using that one? The Governor’s has a better press.

    Not enough room for it. And with his shrug he lifted his arm from the wheel, sending the ship veering right into the enemy's and tossing everyone aside on their footing. Everyone unprepared, at least.

    As the enemy captain stumbled, he dropped his firing arm. Ithaca used the sway of the ship to bring her into his fighting circle, ducked between his arms and landed a solid punch to his jaw that sent him sprawling in surprise.

    At the same time, Harvey and Pip sprang into motion; Harvey tossed the first stumbling guard over the railing to the deck below the wheelhouse while Pip weaved through, smacking any near enemy with a giant wrench. As she stood a little under chest height,
