Poppy was entertaining herself on the living room floor, while her mom was busy in the house, and her dad and Kail (her much older brother) were busy talking over their work plans. On this pleasant weekend day, her dad was called to work again. She heard him, from the other room, taking out his suitcase. He walked into the living room to pack up and leave. Though this was a common occurrence, it upset Poppy afresh. She ran up to her bustling father and hugged his waist. You’re not going again, Papa!? It’s the weekend!

He was going again, and Kail would be leaving shortly after him. Their dad was a higher-up in the local government of their small metropolis, which was the only real urban area around for quite a distance. Kail was a rising force in local government, following in his father’s footsteps. Lately, things had been weird in the city, and consequently in the government.
