About this ebook

Forbidden pleasure leads to dangerous passions.

It was wrong, but it seemed harmless enough to slip down to the pool for a late night skinny dip—even if the pool was in her neighbor’s yard. The house wasn’t occupied, after all.

She discovers one night, though, that someone has bought the house and that someone is dangerously attractive. Dr. Jacque Dupris doesn’t just seem dark and dangerous. He is—infinitely.

This is a work of fiction. All characters, events, and places are of the author’s imagination and not to be confused with fact. Any resemblance to living persons or events is merely coincidence.

    Chapter One

It was wrong—not just wrong, but illegal. And it was going to be a huge embarrassment if she was caught, but Veronica had quieted both her conscience and her anxieties over the past several weeks since she’d first sneaked into the pool next door for a taste of serenity. Long, hot days filled with constant problems had stilled the voice of warning, made her yearn for an escape—just for a few minutes—from the pressure—and the abandoned pool had beckoned.

    It’ll be ok!

    No one’s around to see!

    They’ll never know.

Sure, it’s trespassing and trespassing is against the law, but if no one’s the wiser….

It wasn’t like they’d ever know the difference.

Unless she happened to run in to the owner.

And there had to be zero chance of that since she waited until midnight for her secret swims.

The odds had to be astronomical, anyway.

Besides, she had no intention of it becoming a habit. It was just the unbearable heat that the air conditioner couldn’t keep up with. It made everyone in the boarding house short tempered. The old Victorian she’d inherited from her grandmother and meticulously restored just hadn’t been built for air conditioning.

Dismissing the troublesome thoughts buzzing around her head like a swarm of black crows as she reached the gate to the pool fence, Veronica lifted the latch quietly and let herself in.

A full moon gleamed on the surface like a glowing, otherworldly dish. The night air had cooled, she realized with a touch of relief as she shrugged her terry robe from her shoulders and placed it on one of the chases that were lined up on either side of the pool.

Naked now, feeling a delicious sense of wicked delight,
