    About the Author

    Farewell

Iwalk along the lonely black sand shore. Silence reigns, except for the sound of my footsteps, the rising tide and the wind. I'm surrounded by the contrasting blues and whites of broken icebergs, drifting toward the sea. Free….

I see a bigger piece of ice, large enough for me to sit. The sun is up, you went to sleep. You couldn't stop me. Life is back to normal. Beautiful Iceland again in peace. I win. I fear no more.

I reflect on all that has happened, calmly breathing in synchronicity with the rhythm of the waves. All the elements of this place; the fire, the waterfall, the hot springs, the plane wreckage, the ice cave. No one saw it coming. Never underestimate. Never take anything for granted.

It started four summers ago. A house party, with almost every student from the 2005 compulsory school graduates in their Class Reunion after ten years. The place was on fire. Literal flames and smoke suffocated everyone before they could evacuate. It was ruled an accident, but we knew better.

Then on the 13th of December 2016, a bloke died of hypothermia behind a non-touristy waterfall. Alcohol bottles found nearby. It was ruled an accident, or perhaps a suicide. The Hardest Part written in blood, barely visible on a rock not far from the waterfall. Alex Carr. We knew about him, didn't we? The smallest clue, and yet, no one saw.

The next case was even stranger. The remains of a young woman's body found boiled alive at the fumaroles of Hverir in late spring, 2017—Stupid Girls carved in the orange barren ground near that specific pool.
