Casablanca is a 1942 American romantic drama film directed by Michael Curtiz. The film stars Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid. Set during World War II, it focuses on an American expatriate who must choose between his love for a woman and helping her and her husband, a Czech resistance leader, escape from the Vichy-controlled city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Germans.

Exceeding expectations, Casablanca went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, became iconic and it consistently ranks near the top of lists of the greatest films in history.

In 2015 and 2016, he played Off Broadway the lead roles of SHYLOCK (MERCHANT OF VENICE) and OTHELLO's title role with both critical acclaim.     Description of the characters in the play:

    Rick: Owner of the Rick’s café.

    Ilsa Lund: The lead woman, Victor’s wife and an old beloved of Rick.

    Victor Laszlo: A resistance leader during WW-II, Ilsa’s husband.

    Captain Louis Renault: A local police officer working for Vichy government.

    Major Strasser: A German in Casablanca to ensure Victor’s doom.

    Ugarte: A crook who kills two German couriers after snatching Letters of Transit from them.

    Sam: Rick’s friend and Pianist.

    Ferrari: A businessperson in Casablanca.

    Act # 1

    Scene # 1

    (Few army officers are in conversation with one another. Captain Renault is reporting to few officers of Major rank.)

    An officer: Major Strasser, may I present Captain to the defense line?

    Renault: Unoccupied France welcomes you Major!

    Major: Thank you:

    Renault: You may find the climate of Casablanca a trifle warm.

    Another officer: We, gentlemen, must be used to all climates, Captain, from Russian to the Sahara but perhaps you were not referring to the better.

    Renault: Oh, what else dear Major?

    Another officer: The murder of couriers, what has been done about it?

    Another officer tries to address the query: Captain Renault already knows who the murder is.

    The officer: Excellent! He is in custody?

    Another officer: There is no hurry. Tonight he will come to Rick’s.

    Renault: Everybody in Casablanca comes to Rick’s. But this one will not leave.

    An officer: Frankly Captain, I did not journey here simply to find their assassin. The real reason for my visit is Victor Laszlo.

    Renault: I thought as much.

    Major: Has he arrived yet?

    Renault: This afternoon with a very young beautiful woman, I met them.

    An officer: Renault! Laszlo must not leave Casablanca. I have learned he has to pay a fabulous bribe for the visa to Lisbon.

    Renault: I am prepared to refuse it.

    Major: Where is she staying?

    Renault: Major, I even know the time he intends to bathe.

    Major: I would like to talk to Laszlo. Can it be arranged?

    Renault: Undoubtedly, he too will be at Rick’ tonight.

    Major: Everybody comes to Rick’s?

    Renault: What I have mentioned before.

    Scene # 2

    An attendant: Yes please!

    Victor Laszlo: I reserved a table: Victor Laszlo.

    The attendant: Yes, wait for a moment please!
