About this ebook

This gorgeous, bilingual Nordic tale, in the tradition of Astrid Lindgren's Tomten Tales and Ulf Stark's The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits, will have readers of all ages believing in the magic of Christmas. This is one to pull out every year and treasure!

Grumpy old Farm Tomten just wants to stay at home and avoid the terrible Christmas celebrations altogether. His cousin, Yule Tomten, is up to his ears in Christmas presents and thousands of children waiting. With just two more days till Christmas, will an invite for Christmas coffee be enough to melt Farm Tomten's grumpy heart so they can save Christmas together?

This is a bilingual, fun, Scandinavian Christmas tale with crunching snow, red cottages and the traditional Swedish character of the farm gnome, or tomten. The story is told in both English and Swedish - so the whole family can enjoy reading it together.

Written and translated by award-winning Swedish author Linda Liebrand, Tomten Saves Christmas has been illustrated by Austeja Slavickaite Wojtczak.

Thanks for downloading this bilingual Christmas tale.

Tomten räddar julen is first told in Swedish in chapter one, followed by the English version Tomten Saves Christmas in chapter two. But before we get started - and just in case you’re not familiar with Swedish Christmas traditions, here’s a bit about the Swedish names, foods and places you’ll read about in this story.

    Tomten and Tomten

Norrland could be translated as ‘the Northlands’ and is the northernmost part of Sweden. Lappland is one of the nine historical provinces of Norrland. Småland is a province in southern Sweden.

Yule Tomten, or jultomten in Swedish, is the Swedish Santa Claus, who brings children Christmas presents on Christmas Eve.

Farm Tomten, or gårdstomten in Swedish, is the farm gnome, who helps guard and look after the farm in Swedish folklore.

    the Tomte family

Christmas porridge tastes very similar to rice pudding, and traditionally, a bowl of porridge is left out for Tomten on Christmas Eve as a way to say thank you.

Christmas ham and meatballs, along with the creamy potato and anchovy dish called Jansson’s temptation, are other typically Swedish Christmas foods.

    God jul! Merry Christmas!
