Mikky Sins

A die-hard Alice in Wonderland fan, Mikky Sins always thought Alice and the Hatter had great chemistry. Add the Red Queen’s delicious wickedness to the mix, and she was bound to become a dark romance author. Mikky believes love is the motivation for everything, even the darkest parts of your nightmares, and that is why her motto is to write darkness with a sprinkle of love. As a resident of Mad River, Ohio she often hopes to spot her own white rabbit and quite often needs to be retrieved from the rabbit holes of Facebook she constantly falls into. When she isn’t writing, she’s reading, babying two very spoiled cats, and dreaming of a world of unbirthdays and regular tea parties.

Sweet Georgia Rayne - Mikky Sins

    Dedication

    To Ebony and Laura.

Have you ever had someone take so much control over your life that you knew the only way you could escape was to kill them?

My name is Charlotte Olivia Rayne, and this is my story.

    Chapter One

J ack? Charlotte whispered . Jack?

She pushed on his shoulder gently and chuckled softly.

    You’re suffocating me, Jack.

Jack didn’t move. Charlotte rubbed his back.

    Jack?

Charlotte pushed herself out from beneath him, wrapped the bed sheet around herself, and turned the light on. She gasped as she looked at her husband lying on the bed. Jack wasn’t breathing. His eyes stared at her, and his lips froze in that half-smile she loved so much.

Oh, Jack, she whimpered, burying her face in his shoulder. What will I do without you?

A week later, Charlotte buried him.

The doctor said his heart just gave out, she bravely told the mourners at his funeral. Jack was such a big-hearted man, always giving and doing for other people. He loved hard, and-and his heart just stopped.

Mason Creed watched from a distance as Charlotte Rayne buried her husband. He’d been watching her from the moment he first saw her. She stood next to Jackson Rayne, the last head of the elite Rayne Dynasty of Calvert County, Georgia, beaming with pride in a white lace dress that showed off her perfectly tanned skin to perfection. Her elegant legs ended in delicate, white heels she walked like a goddess in, her carefully coiffed blonde hair was pulled up into a French twist, and her glossy red lips wore a sincere smile.

God, she’s beautiful. Mason thought. Jack was too old; he wasn’t good enough for her. What does she see in him?

Tears left trails in her makeup as she tossed a rose on top of the casket. Mason was proud of her. She had held herself together until that last moment, and even then just a slight tremor of her lips and those few tears were all the emotion she had shown, just like any proper Southern lady. She would mourn in private later, and he would be there to comfort her, even if she didn’t know it yet. He was always there. And now, he would always be there.

When the time was right, he would make his move.

Oh, I’m sorry, Charlotte said as she accidentally bumped Mason as she passed him.

    He inhaled her sweet perfume.

It’s okay, he said. Beautiful, sad ladies are always excused.

She offered him a brief smile and went on her way.

    Was that an invitation?

Mason held the door open for her as she got in the back of the Cadillac, sneaking one last look at the casket before she gracefully slid inside the car.

Oh, sweet Charlotte. You don’t know it yet, but you will be mine.

JAMESON GILLEROY ENTERED the Rayne study without invitation and helped himself to a glass of brandy from the decanter before he sat behind Jackson Rayne’s enormous desk. Charlotte cleared her throat from the high armchair in front of the desk.

Good morning, Mrs. Rayne, Jameson said.

Hello, Mr. Gilleroy. I trust you have Jackson’s affairs in order?

Jameson opened a thick file,  pulled out a few papers, and set them down in front of Charlotte.

Yes, ma’am. These just require your signature.

She glanced over the papers, reading the headings and bit her bottom lip.

These are all bank papers, she said, tapping the pen between two of her fingers.

They are. Jack spread his money out between several accounts, and to merge them into one account—yours—you need to sign them.

Charlotte studied the lawyer as she chewed on the end of the pen. He seemed concerned for her, but she had the blind faith in him as Jack had. Gilleroy, Archer, and Faulkner had always handled the affairs of the Rayne family. She saw no reason to change that now, especially since she needed Jackson’s affairs tidied up as quick as possible. She had a lot to do to get his company straight, which included assigning a new CEO and corporate entity. As the sole remaining heir to the Rayne fortune, it was her duty to take charge of the company instead of letting the law firm handle it. She would take Jack’s seat at the head of the corporate board and let the board members guide her. The only thing standing in her way was the vast bank accounts. She counted five distinct banknotes in front of her. She knew he had an offshore account, but these were American banks, and none of them held millions of dollars in them.

Which one is the corporate account? she asked.

Jameson rifled through the folder and added a piece of paper to the pile in front of her. This is it.

Charlotte’s eyebrows furrowed as she read the document. Why didn’t you give me this before?

Jameson sighed and took a sip of the brandy. He folded his hands together and looked Charlotte in the eyes. It was never Jack’s intent to have you take over the business. I’m only showing you that document as a courtesy. He assigned power of attorney to the board in the event of his death. Only the board can decide what happens to the company and who takes his seat.

Charlotte’s jaw clamped, and her nostrils flared. He did what? She snapped the pen in half in her anger. Why on earth would he do that after keeping me in the loop about all things involving the company? I know more about his wishes than any single board member, I can assure you of that. I’ve even helped him decide who to fire, who to layoff, and who to hire!

Jameson licked his lips and let his eyes study
